Realistic Summer Sports is a hilarious and surprisingly difficult physics-based take on the Olympics. The 'Realistic' in the title is clearly tongue-in-cheek; the athletes move like floppy ragdolls, and controlling them feels like trying to run through a swamp while wearing shoes made of jelly. And that is exactly where the fun is.
Events like the Javelin or the 100m Dash become exercises in pure comedy as you struggle with the awkward, deliberate controls. However, once you actually master the rhythm of the flicking and tapping, there is a genuine sense of accomplishment. It’s a great party game and a brilliant parody of the overly serious sports simulations we usually see.
Punishingly funny physics-based controls
Multiple summer sports events
Minimalist and clean visual design
Local pass-and-play multiplayer
Challenging single-player mode
In the 100m dash, you must alternate your taps for each leg. Tap too fast and your athlete will trip; tap too slow and you'll never get off the starting block.
Choose from a variety of events. Each requires a different use of the game's unique physics-based control scheme.
Yes! The difficulty is a core part of the game's humor and charm. It takes practice to coordinate the athlete's movements.
Yeah
It's a fun game and I like to play it but.... HOW IN THE HELL DO I PLAY IT. I really honestly don't get it and there's no online or in-game tutorials. I think there should be an update with a tutorial mode telling you how to play each sport. For example: weight lifting??? What do I do???? I always try putting the weight on the person but just end up knocking him over. Kayaking?? I always fall off the back when barely even going!! And I can't figure out a way to keep him balanced on there. So once again fun and I give a thumbs up but..... i do wish for a future update in which the game gives a tutorial on how to properly do all of the sports.
Only way it could be better is if they made a winter one as well.
Really fun game. Easy to play difficult to master. Be all you can be.
Very fun little physics game.
Glad to see an ios9 update! Love playing this with my friends.
Picked up the game for the graphics and the "fun feel". You should know right off the bat that you get four games to start and then buy the others for 1.99. That might seem a lot for the style and graphics, but I was cool with it. I'm going through it a little and it does seem fun, but the complete lack of any sort of tutorial or instructions is really frustrating. You can practice events, but I've found myself playing a game over a dozen times and still not knowing what it is really wanting me to do. For instance, I'm assuming that the diving game needs me to land in the water head first, but it doesn't say that. I'm still not fully sure on how to throw the javelin. But the game seems promising for the craziness of it. The events are quick and it almost has a "Wario Ware" feel to it. If I can make a suggestion or two... Add a little text to tell us what we're trying to do and maybe a hint as to how to achieve it. Also, it would be nice to have more than one attempt at something in the "Games". It would be nice to be able to take your best attempt out of three on some events (diving as an example). Lastly... online play? The game is pretty unforgiving especially since you only get the one shot and there are no instructions, but oddly enough I still find it enjoyable. I just know it could be better.
