RPG Overrogue is Kemco’s successful foray into the roguelite deck-building genre, and it stands as one of their most polished releases. The 'Overlord Selection Battle' narrative provides a fun, underworld-themed backdrop for what is a very solid card game.
The game offers over 300 types of cards and 150 treasures, which allows for immense variety in builds. One run you might focus on a poison-stacking deck, while the next you might try a high-turnover graveyard strategy. The fact that dungeons are generated randomly ensures that no two descents into the labyrinths feel the same. For fans of Slay the Spire looking for a game with a more traditional JRPG story and art style, Overrogue is a perfect match.
Roguelite deck-building mechanics
Over 300 types of cards
5 distinct card/dungeon themes
Amusing underworld storyline
More than 150 strategic treasures
Don't bloat your deck—keep it lean to ensure you draw your powerful combo cards more often. Focus on one theme, like 'Poison', and pick treasures that amplify that specific mechanic. Visit card shops in the labyrinths to prune weak starter cards.
Navigate through square-based labyrinths featuring battle, event, and shop tiles. Combat is turn-based and card-driven, requiring careful energy management and strategic sequencing to defeat bosses and reach the deepest floors.
It is a premium RPG, though a freemium version with ads exists on some platforms.

I tried this out because I’m on a card game kick and this looked fun enough. This is my first Kemco game and it seemed like the mechanics were fun enough and the production values seemed high enough to be more than their previous releases. The card game mechanics are competent, though you get a very slow start as you must grind for coins to pull a gacha for more cards and passive upgrades. The final decks are really fun and show some things I haven’t seen in other card battlers yet like chance cards and Usage NG cards you can’t play but have beneficial passive bonuses. The story is ok, feels generic and forgettable but it’s a good enough vehicle for the game progression. The atmosphere is cheeky and reminds me of the Disgaea series. Not a big fan of the main characters’ designs but I have to admit they grew on me a bit. Overall, this game took me about 40 hours to complete and I’d say I got my money’s worth. It’s definitely not Slay the Spire but if you like that kind of game and want a flavor of something different, I’d recommend giving Overrogue a try!
