New levels and adjustments have been added to improve the experience.
Old Monterrey Pixel Adventure is a beautiful, nostalgic love letter to the 8-bit era of action-platformers. It successfully captures that 'NES-hard' feeling without being frustrating, thanks to tight controls and well-placed checkpoints. You play as an explorer navigating the historical and mythical landscapes of Monterrey, and the pixel art is a standout—vibrant, detailed, and full of character.
The level design is quite varied, moving from urban rooftops to deep underground caverns. The combat is simple but requires careful timing, and the boss encounters are a real highlight, demanding that you learn their patterns to survive. It’s a game that respects your intelligence, with hidden secrets in every level that reward thorough exploration. While the story is light, the atmosphere and the chunky chiptune soundtrack provide a great sense of adventure. It’s a fantastic choice for anyone who misses the golden age of side-scrollers.
Detailed and vibrant 8-bit style pixel art
Dozens of challenging levels across unique biomes
Tight, responsive controls for touch and controller
Hidden areas and secret collectibles in every level
Epic boss battles that test your skill
Many walls in Old Monterrey are illusory. If you see a platform that seems out of reach or a dead end that looks slightly off, try walking through the wall—you might find a secret treasure chest or a permanent health upgrade. Collecting all the hidden 'Trophies' is essential for unlocking the true ending.
Don't just run into enemies. Most have a specific attack rhythm. Wait for them to strike, dodge, and then counter-attack. In the late-game cavern levels, using your 'Jump-Slash' is the only way to take out flying enemies without taking damage yourself.
The game scales its difficulty naturally through level design, but you can find 'Easy Mode' items hidden in the early levels.
Overall I am giving it 5 stars because the concept and execution is there but it’s lacking things which can just be improved over time. The controls are pretty bad so I tried to hook up a Bluetooth controller knowing this would fix the problem, however there was no support for controllers. It only has 30 levels but again all this can be fixed over time, the graphics are nice and the concept is simple it reminds me a lot of old school Mario and the backgrounds when there’s weather is actually a very nice visual.
Save the goats in the simple and fun midwestern themed platform game. It has charming pixel graphics and catchy music. I like that there’s an added challenge of trying to shoot all of the red targets scattered throughout the levels. No ads or IAPs. Could use more levels but it does say that more levels are coming soon. I wish you could change your character or that there were things to unlock. And as someone mentioned having a timer would be cool as well. Overall it’s a nice little hidden gem of a game.
Super fun game and very easy to get a hang of. I do wish there were more levels as I’ve been replaying the same 17 levels, but another request I have, it would be amazing if there was a timer at the end of the levels so you could try to get the best time possible. The game is very captivating and I’ve been trying to get faster at all of the levels, but a built in timer would be great. It would also open up the opportunity of a leaderboard so we can compete and share times. Great game so far
Im very selective with the games on my phone and only have a few I’m able to play consistently but this game has definitely become my favorite in the last 2 days. The only problem is that there are only a few levels (like 17 if I’m correct) and I need more!! The first few levels are easy enough to get a hang of the game but the ones after are more difficult and more entertaining imo plz come out with more levels ASAP!!!
For what the game presents itself to be, it’s a great game. Easy to concept that you learn quick. Levels are short yet in times make you think twice about choices. Time of review there is 17 levels, but it appears to be brand new, which explains such. This game has tons of potential, look forward to see what paths the devs take in terms of development!
It’s a fun quick game you can finish in about a half hour. As of writing this there are 17 levels. The difficulty is a bit all over the place as some of the middle levels are far more difficult than the later levels. Controls are pretty solid. Overall a charmingly easy way to blow a half hour. Please add more levels though.
The game is very cool, and I like the concept of saving goats from aliens and there are spikes to avoid, which is fun to avoid and jump over, buuuut, the buttons are too small, so whenever I try to tap them, I end up missing them 50% of the time.
It’s a good game needs new levels but if your still adding levels then it’s fine! The games controls are good but when I fist started I didn’t know how to double jump 😅 so I recommend that you add a tutorial! But this a good game!
