Our Expert Score

82/100

Merge Cooking is a delightful culinary adventure that manages to stand out in a crowded genre by focusing on high-quality presentation and global exploration. You play as an aspiring chef assisted by Lea, traveling across diverse world locations—from the colorful stalls of Hawaii to the refined kitchens of Japan and the savory bakeries of France. The core loop of merging ingredients to discover new tools and recipes feels incredibly rewarding, and the sense of progression as you renovate and decorate various themed restaurants is palpable.

What makes this game truly special is the attention to detail in the food art. Every dish looks appetizing, and the satisfaction of finally merging a complex recipe like sushi or a delicate pastry provides a genuine dopamine hit. The time-management aspect adds a nice layer of tension without becoming overwhelming, and the regular special events keep the gameplay loop from feeling repetitive. It’s a polished, relaxing, and visually stunning experience that any fan of merge games or cooking sims should have in their library.

Better than the rest…

I’ve played at least several other merge (this includes “cooking”) games, and this one stands above them all. Primarily speaking to the gameplay/mechanics. This one actually incorporates a cooking element as opposed to just mindless combining; ingredients at any tier are used for recipes, so planning and forethought is helpful and adds to the fun with more complexity/sense. When you unlock the multipliers for energy use per tap this game will refund you energy if it generates an ingredient that should cost less (when it generates a lower level one that the game will know to generate for a dish currently in the order queue). There’s plenty of organization space (though you still need to manage it well) in order to accommodate this. There are many recipes, and as you progress through different themed locales you’ll learn newer ones and gain new equipment. I’m at level 35 and this is still the case. While I can get impatient with energy regeneration, the cook time aids a bit to “immersion” and in my mind helps curb said impatience. There are items you can buy to speed things up but a downside is that any item is really expensive and will cost you money. I spend as occasionally as possible and since I’m playing it via referral from a third party that rewards you based on your progress I’ve actually made a modest bit of pocket change. But again, my review is more based off the gameplay itself. If you enjoy merge games like I do, you’ll Really enjoy this.

Ads Don’t Work

Ok so first I would like to say that I LOVE this game. I have tried almost all merge games that are available for iPhone and this is by far #1 so I am giving it five stars. Now I do have to say that once I got to the first making a hot dog level, and even after watching an ad about 5 times, it still won’t give me my reward for bubbles and speeding up the generators time on the board. I know that other people are having this same problem as well so I just thought that I would let you know. I do know that it could be because I am playing on an iPhone 6s Plus. I’m sure that is probably a factor since the game may not be compatible with an old phone. So that might be the problem for other people who are having the same ad issue as well. I will say that after the last couple of IOS updates that my phone has been freezing and glitching a lot, mostly when playing games. I’m guessing it’s because my phone is older. Sorry for the long review. Once again, thanks for making such a great game and actually reading and responding to some customer feedbacks. It’s really refreshing and I know it’s hard to read the bad reviews sometimes. You’re all doing a great job! Update: Thank you so much for the response! I am now having no problems with ads whatsoever! It may have just been those few levels that were the problem, but if it was you guys then thank you for the quick fix!

Great game but 1 thing to complain about
Wed Sep 25 2024 chickenwingchickenwinh

First of all, i've had this game for months, i love it. I love the merging part and the daily tasks, i also appreciate that it gets harder and you get newer items the further in you get. I don't mind waiting for my energy to fill because it reminds me to put down my phone for a bit instead of being sucked in for hours. I like the unlocking new items feature to, when you merge you get something new so it's all kinda a mystery and you get small rewards for unlocking new items. Now the one thing i will complain about is that there's no option to NOT want to do the mini challenges with time limits, like the 'making a burger' challenge where you do a certain amount of orders and then get a prize when you've finished. If it pops up you HAVE to do it, now i don't like this feature because as i stated earlier this is a game where you have limited energy and your orders get harder as you progress, this makes it extremely hard for some of the challenges because i don't have enough energy to finish the orders in the given time limit. So i'm basically wasting time trying to participate and end up losing anyways. It makes it a little frustrating to play and makes me not want to play the game for a while after. I wouldn't be so upset if the challenges were every once in a while but there's a new one every day, it's a time limit of like 12 hours and that's just not possible to do when you have a life outside of your phone and the orders getting more difficult.

Loved the Game - Support Non-Existent

Update April 9 - I was not aware that the Recipe card was active. When it first appeared and I got levels 1 & 2 I thought the card was “inactive” and left it in the inventory waiting to “win” another card to get to level 6. The instructions on this one are not clear at all, so maybe that can be pointed out. I actually really enjoy this game and was frustrated when I didn’t see any way out or response at first. Thank you. Updated to 5 stars. This is a really fun game. Update: April 7 - I received a message from the developer via Apple, with no way to reply directly to them so I went to their Happibits website and opened a trouble ticket, providing many screenshots. No response. I don’t think anyone works there or cares about bugs in the game. I literally opened a trouble ticket and got no reply. I’ve been stuck with an unfillable order in the game for over two weeks. I’ve been really enjoying this game for a couple weeks. I was given an order that cannot be filled and there is no way to “buy” what’s needed, or win, or lose and move forward to something new. I am just stuck. I can’t fill the last order, which requires a “level 6 BBQ recipe” card when I only have a level 2 BBQ card. I was hoping it would reset overnight or give me a way out, but nope. So, I just merge items over and over, never fill the last order, never advance to the next level, never collect what’s needed because an unattainable recipe card has ended it for me. Emailed support twice, no reply. There is also no way to “buy” recipe cards or exit or lose to begin again. Really disappointed. A sad ending to a truly engaging game.

Absolutely exceptional

I adore this game more than life itself. It is the first thing I think about and see when I wake up and the last thing I think about and see before I go to bed. No matter how hard it gets it never becomes boring. Some games eventually get too hard and lack fun but this game surprises me at every turn. Not even Roblox can hold a candle to this absolute blowtorch of a masterpiece. Not only is this game raising the bar in terms of fun but it stays age appropriate all through out. Truly I want to give all the hugs and kisses in the world to the creator of this game and they will be invited to every celebratory party of my life as this game single handedly got me through it. I will never hold any game as close to my heart as this one. Matter of fact I have the app icon of this game printed out and framed and it sits on my nightstand. Not only is that frame a reminder of my favorite game but it is also an affirmation station. I look at that frame and in addition to giving me a will to live it gives me the initiative to be a better person and take action throughout my day. I spread the good gospel which is this game and I will continue screaming my good graces of merge cooking from the roof tops until everyone not only tries this game but loves it as much as I do. Thank you merge cooking. Thank you for bringing back my spark.

Really good merging game

I love the aesthetic of the items, I also love that we go to various countries to explore different cuisines, I think the card pack events have cute pictures. I do has some quality of life pointers that could make the game better: when bubble items appear, if you accidentally press the option to spend diamonds, there should be a confirmation page. There’s a confirmation page for popping the bubble, so there’s absolutely no reason why there shouldn’t be one for spending diamonds, which makes it feel like the game wants you to accidentally press that so you’re accidentally down a potentially large chunk of diamonds that you have been saving. In general, there should be more warnings that you’re about to spend diamonds so that you don’t fall into that trap of accidentally spending diamonds. The souvenir generators are also the bane of my existence, Great Britain’s was especially awful. They really are the thing that make me not want to play the game because of how little they generate, how long they take to replenish, and the fact that you’re limited on ads to replenish and are eventually forced to spend diamonds. I wouldn’t dislike them so much if they weren’t a blatant addition for the sake of getting you to spend diamonds. Making them not take so ridiculously long to replenish, or making them generate just a little more would make the experience with the souvenir generators a lot less painful. Edit to add, I know you’re not the only one that uses AI, but your AI promo for the game is so uncanny and nonsensical, one of them has Lea’s kid holding a sparkler in her left hand and then it just disappears like what 😭

Fun game.. not much play time though

I really love this merge game. (Thanks fetch) It’s way more detailed than most merge games. For example: you can make pies and brownies etc that you will need to make a glass bowl, you will need to make flour, and butter. So like you merge for “ ingredients” then get to cook it in which ever is the proper cooking device. (Oven, grill, juicer, frying pan and a prep area) which I thought was way more fun than just aimlessly merging items that don’t make sense! I found this game from my fetch game play account and normally after I complete my game tasks for fetch, I delete the game. But not this one! I love it so much. My only issue would be that there’s no ad system to get energy so once I’m out of energy I have to quit playing. (Booooo) I have purchased a few gem packs but I’m a single mom and don’t have a ton of money to spend on games. So that’s my ONLY dislike about this game. And plus when I did buy the gem packs, I was out of gems in a matter of a hour… but that’s what I had to do to keep playing. I don’t think that’s fair. I would love to play more than a few mins at a time. Please add some type of ad system to get more energy. But yea other than that, this is one of the best detailed merge games I’ve played! And I’ve played soooo many merge games. This one rocks!

Bottlenecks
Tue Dec 23 2025 allomallow

The game is fun and cute at first, but as the other reviewers have mentioned, the energy points run out quickly. If you regularly spend money to buy energy and gems, you’ll find they only get you a little bit farther - as every time you refill your energy points by using gems, the price doubles! Same scenario if you use gems to refresh your generators. It quickly starts to feel like you’re being ripped off and disincentivized to keep playing. “Rewards” for achieving tasks or winning competitions are pretty small and frankly not very exciting. Also, there can be big bottlenecks with certain high level food orders (e.g. surf and turf). One combination food item with one level-nine ingredient and two level-eight ingredients essentially cost 1,024 energy points to create through merges (2,024 minutes or 34 hours of waiting to earn energy) and then to add injury to insult it will take forever for the equipment to prepare it, so you will have to use food boosters and/or gems. This will also prevent you from moving on to any new orders and makes the game play kinda slow and boring while you slog through for one order. If these problems get addressed, the game would be so much better to play and incentivize players to spend. Right now, the value proposition is not great and the bottlenecks really detract from enjoyment.
