Our Expert Score

78/100

Idle Baseball Manager Tycoon is a surprisingly deep entry into the sports management genre that manages to strike a great balance between casual 'idle' mechanics and meaningful strategic depth. Unlike many idle games that just feel like a progress bar, this one makes you feel like the architect of a rising sports franchise. You start with a dusty backwater field and a group of rookies, but the sense of scale as you unlock massive stadiums and high-tier talent is incredibly satisfying.

The real hook here is the management of your team's stats. You aren't just clicking to collect cash; you're deciding whether to invest in better scouts, improved training facilities, or more profitable concessions. The simulation aspect is streamlined enough for a mobile experience but retains that 'just one more upgrade' addictive quality. While the grind can slow down significantly in the late game, the consistent feedback loop of seeing your team climb the rankings keeps you coming back.

The game is a management sim, so matches are simulated based on your team's stats, but you can influence outcomes by upgrading your players.

Great App
Thu Aug 18 2022 Thatsoldierther

I’ve been playing the app for about a month now. I mostly use it to pass the time between briefs or just passing time in general. It’s a lot of fun. The only downside to it is the terrible animations your players do whenever a ball is hit to the outfield or bunted right in front of the plate. Is it really an idle game if the app doesn’t run unless I’m still on? When the ball is hit to the outfield, if it falling in the general direction of your outfielder he’ll just hold still and put his hands up and pray to god they catch it. Sometime infielder do the same thing but it is what it is at this point. Now the most infuriating thing is when the ball is bunted towards the pitcher. Your pitcher will run over to the ball, pick up the ball, RUN BACK TO THE MOUNT, and then throw the ball towards the base to try to get the out. I understand that I’m not playing MLB The Show here but they should at least be able to do the bare minimum. Oh! and it’s a serious grind to grab great players. I’ve been stuck in pro league 3 for about 2 weeks now and I just continue losing cause of these animations I constantly get and the lack of “skilled” ball players.

Needs a lot of work!!

Firstly my team is terrible, and you can’t get any better players, second why are the players so dense, like I have seen shortstops throw it to right field because they didn’t know what to do. It has gotten so bad I have just walked away instead of watching my team play like Rec ball nobodies, the only reason I still play is to upgrade my stadium. I bet after my arena is fully upgraded to the max I will still have a garbage team. For example of my team being so bad, I have had plays were the ball is hit to the pitcher and he throws it two miles away from first and it’s turned into a inside the park home run. An example for the stupidity of the players they would just stand there in the outfield when the ball is hit to them and not move an inch and even when the ball hits the floor still frozen with there glove up to the sky, only when the runner is rounding third do they think “oh yeah I’m playing baseball” and go and retrieve the ball only to make a terrible throw to…first base🤦‍♂️. Another example would be how when there’s a grounder the first thing they do is throw it to the pitcher, also my shortstop is behind third base, not in a covering position, but quite literally standing behind the third baseman, and it’s not only shortstop it’s also second base too, but to first and not third, so I have my entire middle of the infield wide open and when it sneaks throw to center field the center fielder just walks away from the ball and goes to cover second base. So that’s how bad some of the game mechanics are in this game, please fix them.

The potential is fading fast

I was optimistic about this game but that is disappearing. They aren’t even making any updates to make it better anymore. There’s so many issues with the games. Many people have already expressed how stupid the players are. Like how the ball has to be thrown to the pitcher before trying to throw someone out. Any ground ball hit, the infield has to throw it to the pitcher instead of first base. If the pitcher gets it, he has to run to the pitcher’s mound before throwing to first. Essentially, every single ground ball is a single. Many times when I get a single, while the ball is getting thrown in from the outfield, they throw it right to second base and I get thrown out. It’s just stupid how my players do the wrong thing 9 times out of 10. Another issue, if I get the third out before the runner from third crosses home, it still counts as a run. It’s not even like it’s close. He won’t even be halfway home when the final out is made and yet he keeps running and scores. That’s not how baseball works. Then there’s the point where I won’t be able to upgrade anything because it goes from being millions of coins to hundreds of billions and the amount I can upgrade doesn’t help me get into the billions anytime soon. It takes me many, many days to make any kind of upgrade because of how unbalanced the structure is. After a month or so of playing, I’ve just about had it. Most people won’t stay interested this long before deleting. They definitely won’t be keeping many people for very long.

Bad

It’s got a few things that are good but most of the game is pretty bad. Players do not play baseball how you would expect. Players get upgrades for pitching throwing running etc but none of it really matters? Idk if it is the aspect of idle that you have it set up like that but you rarely win. I watch the opposing team have a player at the plate with 0 hit power and 0 hit accuracy and they somehow get at hit over the infield into play while my pitcher is at 15 out of maximum 19. I don’t really know how their stats work but it doesn’t seem like the stats of players matter at all. Running bases doesn’t make sense. You can’t throw out someone at first for whatever reason that is. Players still score while you have all the outs required to end the inning. If someone was on third no matter what they score a run. The money you spend to upgrade has no value outside of visuals. They only have one good thing about the game and it’s the system for upgrading the stadium/facilities. It’s again just visual upgrades none of it matters towards the team and gameplay but it’s the only thing I can find that’s thought out and made properly in this game. It’s kind of infuriating that you can make something like this but can’t get the rules of the game of baseball into a game that’s about baseball. What’s worse is that the things are fixable but ignored, it’s sad.

Players play like they’re drunk

This is like someone watched baseball once and decided to make a game. Players make crazy decisions like trying to stretch infield hits into doubles or trying to steal when they’re right next to an infielder with the ball. You’re just as likely to get the other team out because of their stupid base running. You save for hours to get a rare player and it seems like it’s always a duplicate (or “dublicate,” as they call it). You have no control over the players, you just have to watch them stumbling around, running into outs. You have to finish first in your league to get promoted, and the clinching game is suspiciously hard to win. After winning three out of four games, I’ve restarted over twenty times trying to win the final game and can’t do it. I’m able to win three out of four but then can’t score a single run in 20 attempts? Imagine the odds on that! Be prepared to watch hours of ads if you want to win any games. No idea how this got 4.6 stars. The reviewers are like, “players keep getting thrown out for no reason. Five stars!” On top of all that, the economics don’t make sense. In most games like this, it pays to upgrade your infrastructure. In this game, I buy new stores, upgrade tiers, but it never seems like a good return on investment. I wish I had more hands so I could give this four thumbs down!

Baseball fans avoid at all costs!!!

As an idle game it’s great, but as a baseball fan and competitive person this game is rigged garbage. It is impossible to win a single game against any team, been trying for a week now, I have my entire team at max level, still can’t win a game. The opposing team will hit a ball near one of my players and they will legit stand still and let the pitcher run halfway across the field to get it. The AI is as good as the garbage from the old rts games of the 90’s. Dudes just standing there getting shot, same thing here, players just standing still watching the opposing team in run circles around them. Another great example is my most recent failure of a game, catcher picks up the ball, and instead of standing on home to tag the opposing player running towards home and get him out, the moron throws it to the pitcher. The AI needs a serious overhaul because as it stands it’s a joke, the opposing team is insanely better than the team your given. I want to love this game, it has a lot of positive things about it, but as a baseball fan, the lack of any kind of realism at all ruins it. Make the AI respond the way a real player would, not act like a bunch of children playing softball, having no clue what’s happening around them. Fix this and I will fix my rating. I’m officially deleting this app at this point, I’m can’t stand watching my higher level players getting out played by newbies. My whole team is 45+, they still lose to amateur teams with a bunch of level 10 idiots on it. Balance this game now or watch it die, real players won’t put up with gameplay this terrible.

Pretty Lacking

It’s crazy that this is the same team that made Golf Club Tycoon because that game is perfect. So much customization in that game, loads of different things to purchase and make money from. Golfers you get to train and sent to events. This baseball game is so barebones is tragic. There’s literally nothing to upgrade but the stadium itself and the upgrades cost a ridiculous amount of money and barely gain you any money. The vendors are a job. Costing Somtimes millions to buy yet only earn hundreds of coins. This game is 100% dependent on you watching a x3 add to gain money from being away from the game. Atleast in Golf Club you actually could be in the game and see yourself warning money. Not to mention the baseball mechanics are god awful. Players never know when to stop running and always get throw out. And in the flip side an opposing player can run freely around the bases a lot of the time because your infielders act like they have no idea how to throw, oh and only certain defenders really ever do anything, a ball can be hit directly at the SS and he’ll just stand there on the bag and the pitcher or 2nd baseman will have to run over and grab the ball while the runner just gets easy bases. This game is absolutely putrid compared to some of the studios other titles.

Misses the mark

Everything besides the game simulation is pretty good. Watching the simulated game about gave me a hernia. If the developers could fix the simulation I’d probably change my review to 5 stars. Example: the batter hits a ball to the right field wall and is halfway to second by the time the right fielder gets to it. The right fielder picks up the ball, runs 20 feet towards the infield and throws the ball to... the center fielder. Now the runner is on his way to third, so naturally the center fielder throws to ball to... left field???? Seeing this, the runner decides to head home to attempt an inside the park home run. The left fielder eyes him down, ready to throw the ball harder than he ever has before.... to second base 😑 but the stupidity didn’t end there, because he overthrew the second baseman by a mile, and the right fielder had to back him up. So the play that took about a full minute real time ended up with the right fielder holding the ball about 80 feet closer than when he first picked it up. I can understand the AI making some less than intuitive throws or running mistakes, but come on. Hand held games before the iPhone existed had better AI than this
