Fortress Merge successfully scratches that itch for both 'incremental' fans and 'tower defense' strategists. The core loop—merging lower-level turrets into high-powered cannons—is incredibly satisfying. I've played many merge games, but what stands out here is how the 'merging' directly translates into defensive viability against increasingly erratic enemy waves.
The boss fights are a particular highlight. They require you to rearrange your fortress on the fly, moving your strongest merged units to intercept specific lanes. It’s not just a game about numbers; it's a game about placement and timing. The visual feedback when a level 10 turret obliterates a horde is pure dopamine. It’s addictive, polished, and hard to put down.
Infinite merging possibilities
Epic boss encounters
Offline resource gathering
Strategic grid-based management
Always leave at least two empty slots in your fortress. This allows you to shuffle units around and merge new arrivals without getting stuck.
When you merge certain high-tier units, you can choose between 'Rapid Fire' or 'Area Damage' paths to counter specific enemy types.
In the main campaign, towers persist. In 'Endless Mode,' you start fresh each run to test your speed-merging skills.
Update: within a few days the issue is fixed with an update and I received a reply from the game developers. That works for me! I like this game but I have to constantly restart it to progress at all because it freezes completely. It’s difficult to exit out of the game when this happens and while it does mostly save my place, it happens so often that I can’t even finish one of the waves within a level. I am hoping to see an update fixing this soon or I’d have to delete this :(
The game starts so fun but soon you realize the game is the same and it’s all about the ads. I’m to lvl 70 and it’s still 10 or 13 waves. The augments are the same. And if you want good augments you have to watch the ads. Though I’ve played watching the ads vs not watching the ads and the it’s only slightly more difficult to beat without the ad upgrades. But if you don’t watch the augment ad the game gives you a forced ad anyway. Funny the “remove ad” ad even states that it only removes forced ads. The characters move slow, but you want to speed up the game then you have to buy the speed up. There is a limited amount of buildings and a limit number of times you can merge them but with only 10 or 13 wave I still haven’t got to the top merge. The enemies are all the same though sometimes the skins change. So it’s fun to try and fit all the buildings on the board but there’s no strategy other than getting buildings on the board. I don’t have to choose what buildings base off enemy just fit it on the board. Improvement ideas: change the board shape and size. And more diversity. Less ads
I got this game a couple days ago and I love the gameplay. The combination of resource management, Tetris style puzzles to try and fit as many buildings as possible, and the auto-chess style gameplay is amazing. On top of that the upgrade tech trees for everything feels good. Gameplay wise I have no complaints. Only if the game ran as intended at all times. The game tends to glitch out really badly if you tab out of the game. Not even if you got to another app. If the game isn’t continuously running on your screen it glitches out. You then need to shut down the game and relaunch it. Sometimes it remembers the wave you were on, and sometimes it doesn’t. I would recommend a fix for that ASAP. The other thing is, the ads go on for too long when you click the option. Have the same ad on repeat and run 2/3/4 times in the ad break is ridiculous. Either short the time to where one play through is enough to get the reward and skip or have fewer of them.
This game is intentionally convoluted. If you are good at this game, that is legitimately cool. I have two stupid games that I am intrinsically good at. If you are not exceedingly good at this game past the first hour and a half, give up. Besides, there are more ads than usual, and some are an unskippable full minute. There is a couple events that set the game back early on, and they basically require you to use ads or “gems.” I can only imagine that this will continue exponentially. There are far more time wasting games out there with better ad to reward values. If you want to find your game, try this one, however know that it doesn’t get better than about stage ten. To complain without giving solutions is basically whining: if this game gave away the “2x” speed multiplication instead of hiding it behind ads / rewards, then it would be quite a bit better. Still charge for the “3x” multiplier, but give the options between “slow as heck” and “what it should be.” However, with this niche that this game fills, that may drive away swingplayers quicker. Shrug.
Let me just start by saying that I really like this game. I think it’s a lot of fun to play and I’ve spent a lot of time playing and trying to enjoy it. But the amount of ads you have to sit through is unbearable. I’m talking half of the time you are playing the level amount of ads. They try to paint the ads as ‘optional’ but after level 20, the levels get challenging enough that you can’t beat the bosses without watching the ads for the buff. Even buying the ‘ad free’ upgrade doesn’t solve this problem. And sometimes the ads are 1 1/2 minutes and unskippable. It’s terrible because the actual game is pretty fun, but making an 8 minute level 20 minutes with ads is ridiculous. I can’t recommend this game to anyone until they offer a true ad free version of the game. Don’t waste your time or money.
I love this little game. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is that it makes me watch extra ads. I paid for not forced ads because I like supporting games I enjoy but sometimes it still forces ads randomly. Also when watching voluntary ads for buildings the “buy me” screen will pop up before the first ad. When this happens I say no then watch the ad. When it comes back the “buy me” pop up is still there and I have to watch the same ad again before it gives me the building. A minor annoyance for the fun of the game but it’s aggravating. If that went away I’d give 10 stars if it allowed me to.
This game is super fun, and has a good bit of strategy. I’m Lv. 18, and the game keeps increasing in gameplay depth. That being said, I wish there was an infinite mode where enemies come in increasing size and you can buy more land to build on. (ADD IN FUTURE UPDATE PLEASE!!!) Even better would be a mode where you have to pay a gem fee to play and the player sets the parameters (size, reroll Lv., trees, ect.) One final, ultimate game mode would be PVP, where players would get gold by sending troops from their buildings to the other player’s buildings by TAPPING THEIR BUILDINGS (devs take note) to add yet another layer of game strategy.
The game is enjoyable for what it is and matches the advertisement so that’s a plus. It does have a few issues though. The first major one is that it has forced ads you have to watch unless you spend money to get them to go away. Then, it also has optional ads for rewards and helps in the game that you also have to watch to have a reasonable a chance of beating a wave once you get past the first few levels. Also, the most annoying problem I’ve had is that it keeps freezing on me in the middle of a wave, If for some reason, I have to answer a phone call or use another app for more than two minutes and then try to go back to this one.
