Bug Fixed
Drop The Cat is a masterclass in the 'physics-puzzler' genre, managing to be both incredibly relaxing and occasionally quite a head-scratcher. The core loop of removing objects to navigate a round cat into a basket is reminiscent of classics like 'Cut the Rope,' but with a physics engine that feels a bit more fluid and unpredictable in a fun way. The cat's 'roundness' isn't just a design choice; it's a gameplay mechanic that determines how it rolls and bounces off different surfaces.
The level design is where the game truly shines. It introduces mechanics like fans and seesaws at a perfect pace, never overwhelming the player but always ensuring that you have to think about gravity in three or four steps. I particularly loved the 'stars' placement; they aren't just for completionists but often serve as a subtle hint on the path you should take. If you’re looking for a cozy, low-stress game that still makes you feel smart when you solve a tricky level, this is it.
Over 100 unique physics-based puzzle levels
Adorable character designs and animations
Simple one-tap controls that are easy to learn
Unlockable costumes and accessories for your cat
Relaxing soundtrack and satisfying sound effects
Every puzzle begins with the cat perched high above its goal. Your task is to identify which objects can be removed or moved to create a safe path downward. Watch out for hazards like sharp edges or gaps! Take your time to analyze the layout, tap to clear obstacles, and watch physics do the rest. If you miss your mark, you can instantly restart the level to try a new strategy.
The gameplay revolves around realistic physics and intuitive touch controls. You will encounter different materials—some blocks break when tapped, while others move on tracks or pivot like seesaws. Collect floating stars on your way down to achieve a perfect three-star rating and unlock special hats and skins for your cat. The progressive difficulty ensures that while the first few drops are easy, the later stages will truly test your problem-solving skills.
Don't worry! You have unlimited retries. Simply tap the refresh button to reset the puzzle and try a different sequence of moves to keep the cat safe.
There are no timers in Drop The Cat. You can take as much time as you need to plan your moves, making it a stress-free experience for players of all skill levels.
I downloaded this game on a whim after playing the ad I saw for it. I am impressed by the creativity of the idea for this puzzle, and love the cute aesthetic. The gameplay itself is also fun to play casually, and I don’t feel like my attention is being preyed upon, like in certain other games. I wish there was a way to use coins in the game, or a secondary currency, for things other than power-ups, though, especially customization items, like being able to purchase different game board/piece designs, different cat designs (such as replacing them with different animals, or giving them outfits), different visual effects when sliding/collecting cats, etc. (Maybe a/some free customization could be included in the base season pass, and premium customization options could be included in the premium season passes?) Also, this is a small thing, but I wish the game made use of haptics. If, for example, my phone “clicked” or vibrated when I collected cats and/or beat a level, I think it would feel more satisfying to do so. I did really appreciate the ability to change my profile picture and name, though; I thought that was cute. But I wish there were ways to unlock new customization options too. Having them be unlock-able rather than available from the start incentivizes me to play in a way that feels fun and like I’m working toward a goal. (This is true for the customization suggestions I mention above too.)
Great puzzle game, good mix of challenging and satisfying. I normally hate timed games, but it does add a level of urgency and constraint. I love the aesthetic too. I haven’t had to use any power-ups to get through a level yet, and I’m in the hundreds. That being said- I would like to have a zen mode, and also be able to either replay old levels or clear my progress so I can functionally replay the game. I don’t want to wait for updates to get more levels. Like- I don’t remember how to solve level 40, I’ll happily redo it for fun. I actually considered buying the no ads version, but $8 is a bit pricey. If it was like $3-$5 I would have paid to gave ads removed already. Plus I’ve seen some people complain about bugs and the app not working, and while I haven’t experienced those problems myself- I don’t want to pay $8, then have the app stop working because of a bad update or something. I’m using an outdated version of the game (Halloween edition) because I’m too nervous about bad updates- I’ve had too many bad experiences in the past. I had played the same company’s ‘Box Cat Jam’ which I liked- but the UI became so cluttered with Stuff that I ended up getting overstimulated when opening the app and so I stopped playing it- and I don’t want that to happen to this one.
A couple notes on bugs that would make the game much less frustrating if addressed: 1. If you're watching an ad to earn a life when the timer gets to 0:00 and resets to earn your next life, when you get done with the ad, you'll only have one life (not the two you should have). Strangely, I've found going to a different tab like the map right after this happens and then back to the main tab will have the second life appear, but if you're not on top of it you lose it, which is frustrating. 2. Something similar happens if you're earning coins using the free coin reward tasks and you earn enough coins to finish a Mystery Gem stage in the process. When you exit the coin rewards and go back to the home tab, the stage will show as completed, but you don't get the rewards from completing that stage. This is incredibly frustrating. Regarding the game overall, it's definitely a super fun concept, but if we're being honest, the game focuses far more on the timing than whether or not you can solve the puzzle. Many levels, especially up in the thousands, are puzzles you can know exactly how to solve in the most efficient way possible, and still have to go through several times because the timer makes it nearly impossible (so you'll watch more ads). I'd encourage someone on your team to play level 3298 without any power-ups or extended time and see how reasonable you feel it is.
Unlike every other game I’ve seen advertised, the core gameplay of Drop the Cat is really strong and it shines through even through the ads, which unlike most ads accurately portray the core gameplay. It’s a fresh take on the rush hour puzzle genre that’s more action oriented than most, with solid level design and endearing aesthetics. If levels existed in a game with traditional monetization and a corresponding classic puzzle game design where you could say replay levels arbitrarily to get more stars with better time, I’d give it five stars. Sadly the Candy Crush style monetization spoils the game by limiting playability and making levels far harder than they ought to be in order to coerce the player into spending money on boosts and lives. In particular, there is a ridiculous spike in difficulty after level ten. Despite the high difficulty, the game is entirely fair in the sense there is no randomization or hidden information in the puzzles, so you can plan ahead for levels you’re struggling with and get around some of the issues so the game remains playable even if you ignore the monetization, but it would be so much better if it I could pay once for a normal puzzle game without all the extra trash.
I’ve gotten as far as level 423 and am now considering deleting this game because it’s just too stressful. If this game didn’t have a timer, I would never delete it. Technically, each level is solvable within the time given, but you have to know exactly where each block is going to go and have very little room for error. This means playing the same level over and over and over again until you get it down. Since you only get 5 lives and either have to watch ads to get more or wait for them to refill, this can take a good while. As you complete the levels, you unlock more “features”. The game makes it sound exciting but it’s just an added obstacle that they won’t be giving you any extra time to get around. Twice now, when the game has updated, it changed the level that I was currently playing. In one case, it shortened the time 25 seconds and changed a small block to a big block. I had to watch the walkthrough for a different but very similar game just to figure out how to beat it. It is definitely possible to get far without spending any of your own money but you are going to watch endless ads. Also, the Heaven Chase is a joke. Having to beat seven levels in a row to win the “grand prize” has proven to be near impossible. If someone out there has managed to complete it, they deserve way more than 10,000 coins or whatever you get.
I agree with another reviewer that the timer is too fast on the hard and hardest levels. I’m on about level 30 and the first levels the timers seemed fine, and when you unlock a new obstacle it seems to give you plenty of time on that introductory level. But again I’m on level 32 and I shouldn’t have to take screenshots and pause the game in order to complete the hard-hardest puzzles on time (level 33 which is “hard”has a 40 second timer!?!). I also should not need to know the complete solution to the problem immediately after starting in order to complete the level on time. There should be extra time (or even extra moves if later they are measured by that as opposed to time) for mistakes. I would much rather not have a timer at all than a timer that is so short. I think you have to complete 6-9 levels to get enough gems to add 20 seconds to the timer (without going out of your way to watch ads) And I think you only have 5 lives by default. Maybe there could be an option to not play with a timer? But regardless the timer is wayyyy too short. Also I can’t seem to find a way to play earlier levels? Not sure what’s up with that. I got this game cause it looks cute and like a relaxing brain teaser, but it’s making me so mad I kinda don’t want to play it anymore. I should be able to make mistakes and relax while playing the game.
The time limit causes me actual physical distress. I like there being a bit of time limit to make it interesting but I don’t understand how some of these puzzles can be solved in 30 seconds or even 2 minutes. The game is fun to a point but I’m not paying for the time limit to be infinite so I’m probably just going to undownload it. Then having that time limit that is almost impossible plus only 1 more life every 20 minutes unless you watch an ad, why play it? I’m not a stupid person and still spend 7 times to pass a hard level because it’s physically impossible unless you put yourself into a high anxiety stressful mindset. Then each time you play a game there’s an ad whether you say “watch ad for extra coins or not” so again..what’s the point. Just a cash grab. Read other reviews and they give the same copy-paste response “we’re sorry you feel that way about the time limit, it’s meant to be fun”. It’s not and you have 30+ reviews saying it. And with the ads they’re saying “you choose to watch them”. NO you physically can’t go to the next level without watching one. Stop giving bs excuses and update the game. This game could be so addicting and on everyone’s phone if there was a “chill mode” without a timer and ads to get perks and not just to play the game. I’d happily watch ads to get perks! I’m on 189 and Im deleting it before it gives me heart palpitations.
I saw the reviews saying this game gets hard quick and has a bunch of ads but I figured I’d at least play it till I can’t anymore - which turns out to be only 25 levels. At 25 is where there starts to be an ad after every level (which means if you wanna double your coins you have to sit through 1 obligatory ad and then another, longer ad after that when your rewards pop up. The timer also quickly drops from 5 minutes (obviously easy for the basic training levels) to about 2 minutes at level 10 and as it gets harder it’s barely possible to get the puzzle completed even if you’re not stumped on it. I finished level 25 and got the obligatory ad but I was still gonna keep playing for a bit. Nope! With level 26 I wasn’t able to even begin to make it to the finish before time ran out, and if you end up losing a life and retrying the level it will make you watch an ad in between that too. I know how these games go and it just gets downhill from here I’m sure. The game was an amusing 30 minutes of my day but now I’m gonna delete and move on. Good luck if you keep on trucking through! (Sidenote but idk how this game can be 4+ when I’m in my late 20s and got stuck so quick. If you have a little kid just get them neko atsume or the cat board game Boop and save yourself the frustration)
