Our Expert Score

80/100

Dinosaur Park: Jurassic Tycoon is a delightful management sim that perfectly captures the 'wow' factor of building a prehistoric zoo. The progression feels very well-paced; starting with a small herbivore and eventually managing a T-Rex feels like a grand achievement. The art style is clean and polished, making your park look great as it grows.

The idle mechanics are well-implemented, allowing you to make progress even when not actively playing, though active management of your scientists and explorers is required for the best results. It doesn't reinvent the tycoon wheel, but it executes the theme so well that it's hard not to get hooked on finding that next rare DNA strand.

Beneficial ideas

I really enjoyed playing this game—it’s fun, addictive, and has a great selection of dinosaurs. While it feels almost ad-free at first, you soon realize that to truly advance you need to watch ads or spend real life money to cut down wait times. In-game gems are absolutely essential for progressing without paying real money, yet there aren’t enough free ways to earn them. Additionally, I’ve encountered a bug (or design flaw) in the final marsh habitat: it only upgrades to level 4, which limits you to placing just 4 of the 6 dinosaur species, unlike the earlier habitats that let you place 6. A neat idea for future updates would be to extend the park—perhaps adding new areas to explore after completion or even introducing a second park. Also please make getting excavation kits easier because in order to fully complete the game cost free it’s nearly impossible. But I will give this game 5 stars because of the potential. I’ve about complete the game but just please at least consider what I’ve said I believe it will be beneficial to the game and player base. Thank you. To sum up: please fix the final marsh habitat to let me place all species (instead of just 4 out of 6), add more free ways to earn gems, and please change up the excavation kit system to not be nearly impossible to complete without spending real life money.

Has potential I do love your work however

I downloaded this game today and it wouldn’t let me even play the game I even tried uninstalling it and downloading it again but still it’s just not letting me play also I have a question about your idle games I enjoy all of you guys work but I feel some of your games you gave up on or arnt updating them I liked the barbershop one but when I got done the first time I couldn’t progress with the game and now this game won’t let me play it right now but I still wanna give you guys 5 stars so hopefully it shows because I’m on my tablet and the stars are shaded black not gold so I’m not sure what’s wrong there but I hope you guys never give up and I hope you keep making great idle games in the future because honestly I love idle games more than other kind of games it’s fun getting stuff offline and upgrade it your stuff and people if you have characters like Naruto and them maybe you guys can maybe make another idle game for sword art online or inuyasha I would like to see these games and we can upgrade our characters heck even if not those games I’ll still take idle games like this or other places

Nice. I like how dinosaurs are reassembled compared to last game (Dinosaur Park with lower graphics). I actually can see customers in vehicles reaching there; it’s just been a long time I’ve seen people going into parks like Jurassic World never shown cars which made it boring. The finances are not likable, but fun and enjoyable at the same time; it reminds me of playing Jurassic World Evolution when creating parks for dinosaurs and each islands dealing with finances how I made profits by accounting measures with balance sheets plus managing fitting dinosaurs properly in their areas/fences to increase profits. It gets fun as soon as you’re adapting to finances and how the game works. I’m just enjoying to see some more dinosaurs I will be unlocking later. So I’m hoping my review is useful in any way possible.

Fun game at it’s core but feels somewhat greedy

I’ll start by saying that the game looks great and feels good to play. I’m happy with my ability to pick and choose ads for different objectives while seeing almost no forced ads. As far as things I don’t like? Well the screen is very cluttered where it feels like a third of my view is devoted to reminding me I can spend real money in the shop. I feel this takes away from the quality graphics you guys have put time into. I’m sure you guys have many plans and ideas for improvements but in case you are looking for more here’s my 2 cents. I’d love to see a bit more customization of the park to make it feel like my own. I would enjoy more small things to do around the park while waiting for things to finish like view customer profiles or small mini games that could play into dinosaur enjoyment levels. Thanks for reading this these are just my opinions and I hope you succeed! Editing to say that while the ads are fully optional, there is one ad that I keep getting that requires you to press a button every 20 seconds for a full minute. I hate this ad and I don’t want to learn about uterine fibrosis any more please

Game Design Has Turned For The Worse

I will start off right away by stating that I have enjoyed many of Codigames’ / Digital Things’ idle games in the past, but recently there’s been some changes that make these games less enjoyable. Originally, these idle games would consist of upgrading to a certain amount to get an immediate bonus of the asset’s efficiency as long as a cosmetic physical change to go along with it. These were the idle games that really felt enjoyable to play, such as Idle Amusement Park, Idle Prison, and Idle Supermarket. The latter of which is now currently bugged beyond playability with no updates to fix mentioned issues. It is a real shame that supermarket idle became unplayable as it was once an example of Codigames’ best contributions, now it is an example of some of the worst. So, what makes this game less enjoyable than its counterparts? Well, instead of the system in older games, players upgrade to a certain star value to get puny money bonuses or gems. It seems so lazy and the gameplay becomes so boring when nothing changes after all of that upgrading, except when you Rank up which is another problem with these new games. Players also have to research and upgrade their parks by having to wait hours, great. And of course, the only way to speed this up is by premium currency, or by buying cringey “extra teams” to fulfill more tasks at once. A true cash grab. Even if someone were to buy x amount of in game premium currency, they would soon find the only purpose is to speed projects up. No cards, special upgrades, or anything from the older games, the only purpose is to speed things up. Overall, this new game design is a fraction of the enjoyability of the older games.

Turned out to be a waste of time.

I left a review when I was mid way through the game. I liked it then, just had a few things I wasn’t sure on. Now after playing it more I am not too happy with it. I have everything maxed out, my vault is ranked out so I no longer can make more than 1B, which is okay. Problem is with everything being ranked to the max, I can’t spend money so there is no point in me playing anymore because I can’t do anything. I have noticed it tells me something is ranked to the max, but I still only have 5 ticket booths when it shows I can have 6. Same for the Desert, it is maxed out at rank 3. It shows I can have more dinosaurs, but doesn’t give me the option to advance like the other exhibits. Another issue is that I can’t get the marshland habitat, I’ve not gotten the option to start doing that even though literally everything I can do is done now. So I thought I should have that option by now, but I don’t. I’ve waited around and done everything I can do just for me to literally not be able to play now. At first I really liked this game and even spent actual money on it, just for me to not be able to do anything else in it is frustrating.

Now what?

I originally rated this game 5 stars. Things have obviously changed quite a bit with my views then and now of this game. I understand this is a new game, but the lack of content is actually ridiculous. I’ve played many games at their launch that have had content to last you a long time before seeing the end, but you can reach the end of the content for this game VERY quickly. I originally invested some money in this because I thought there would be more content, but ended up completing everything very quickly. I waited for the next update just to see what they would add, and wow it was incredibly disappointing. A few upgrades to already existing buildings and the addition of one new area (with that came an additional research section). None of new update content took any substantial amount of time to complete, and didn’t take long at all to reach the max again. The upgrades are also not substantial in any way. You can just watch one video ad for in game money and basically cap your money. I hardly play this anymore and am sitting in $1.5 billion of 5 star dinosaurs that I haven’t released because there isn’t a point in it right now. It would be a lot higher if I actually cared. Hoping this lack of substantial content changes. If the way content has been released for this game is a normal thing for this company — I don’t think I’ll be sticking around.

The problem with the quest of sending expedition for dinosaurs
Sat Jul 02 2022 Salander_upwards

Here is an example, if you own all the jungle dinosaurs and your only quest is the send 3 expeditions of 3 new dinosaurs p, and so you send and expedition 3 times to get the same dinosaurs you have in the jungle biome but when you look at the percent of the next biome your going to unlock is the same. You try again and again but the percent doesn’t change. So it means you need to go slow and don’t rush to get all the dinosaurs or the quest to get all the new dinosaurs won’t be completed. Please just make it that if you have already all the dinosaurs the quest of sending expedition for new dinosaurs all be complete or make it that if you have all of them you need to send an expedition of a better star dinosaur. (I’m stuck on this quest and I now never get sacrosuchus)
