Hi chess fans! Today's new version improves app quality, removing a couple of bugs that could cause the app to crash. We hope you enjoy it! Thank you.
Chess.com (Chess: Play & Learn Online) is the undisputed king of digital chess. It has transformed the game from a solitary study into a vibrant global community. The matchmaking is flawless, ensuring you’re always playing someone within your skill range, whether you're a beginner or a titled player.
What sets this app apart is the educational ecosystem. The interactive lessons, tactical puzzles, and the 'Game Review' feature—which uses a powerful engine to explain your mistakes in plain language—are revolutionary for anyone trying to improve. It’s a rare example of a 'service' app that genuinely provides more value than it costs. Whether you want to play a 1-minute bullet game or spend an hour analyzing a classic match, this app is the only chess resource you’ll ever need.
Real-time and daily online matches
Massive library of tactical puzzles
In-depth game analysis with 'Stockfish'
Interactive video lessons and articles
Focus on 'Puzzle Rush' to improve your pattern recognition. In real games, always look for 'Checks, Captures, and Threats' before making your move to avoid simple blunders.
Select a time control—from fast Blitz to longer Daily games—and the system will automatically find an opponent of your level. Earn or lose points based on the outcome.
Yes, you can play unlimited chess for free. Premium subscriptions offer additional puzzles and deeper analysis.
This is a fantastic app. I do however have a few small issues with it. One the engine leaves a bit to be desired in my opinion. I find that it will label moves as mistakes that simply where not and it just didn’t understand what i was doing. Now it’s possible I’m just not a great chess player but I still think it could be improved upon. The other thing I have in mind is a quality if life thing. I wish that you could easily convert games to a PGN file to put them in a database or the app simply compiled all ur games in a data base where u could go back and most importantly go through different variations. I know this is already somewhat a possibility but it could be improved upon. As of now I am copying my games Into a different app and analyzing them there but it would be nice to do everything in one place. The other thing that would be nice would be to have a more comprehensive system to learn openings. Specifically what I have in mind, I’m not sure currently exists, but basically i think it would be really cool and helpful to be able to choose an opening then the computer would play various book moves in the various lines of the opening and you would play and have to choose a response that is a book move. This way you could easily learn all the variations of the Sicilian through rapid trial and error as opposed to laboring over a chess book (as I have been) and trying to go through each variation which has been incredibly difficult for me, especially with openings as nuanced as the Sicilian
I’ve been using this Chess app for about three or four years. It has a lot of additional features like tactics puzzles, videos, and preset predicaments to challenge you and help you set up future moves to create the best situation for your pieces. There is also a play-by-play review of your games which critiques your moves and tells you what you could’ve done better. A couple things that need improvement though. Often the app will fail to notify me when it’s my turn after my opponent has moved, requiring me to open the app and navigate to my active games to manually check if it is my turn. The other issue is that sometimes I will try to start a new game with a friend with the “Play A Friend” option and the app opens the “active connection countdown” when I’m not trying to play a live game. I’m sure there is a way to create a new game with a friend without creating an active challenge, but I am not sure how. If this feature exists, it just needs to be integrated in an easy to find menu. (This review is based on my use from a Samsung Galaxy S5). EDIT: I have an iPhone X now and I am able to successfully use the “Play A Friend” option to create a daily game without the app opening the “Active Connection Countdown” so the issue I stated previously may already be resolved.
I started playing not too long ago and I think that if you have to search up and/or learn "strategies"(cheap tactics) you shouldn't play because you already know you are gonna win so why play? The "Draw" feature is so annoying because it forces me into a draw almost every time I put the bot in checkmate. Why does it do that? Its very annoying because I play without using a cheap tactic--something that peoole without real skill use and still play knowing that they will win(so just don't play and go through the hassle of wasting some of your time on earth) yet they think they are good at any "Strategy"(cheap tactic) game because they have enough brain fuel to steal someone's once ORIGINAL strategy into something that millions of people use thinking they are good. I'm not even telling them to stop because I can't, they wouldn't stop, and there's no point really. I personally don't like it but I don't think there is a single other person that sees it in the same way(there's probably at least three) so just ignore this rating becaude it's not really about the game, BUT the layout is nice and the moves are easy for me to recognize unlike other games. I don't even really want a response to this because I don't want to waste your time on just another angry person so just please ignore this. This is only here for people to read and take into consideration, but they won't, because they are probably playing a "Strategy" game and using a copy and paste strategy. Sayonara
I’ve been working to log in after not being active on this app for about 6 months and when I try to log in, my password is incorrect, and so I reset it. After I reset the password and put it in, it also said incorrect password. This went on for about an hour until I broke a sweat and was looking for the nearest bridge to jump off of, so I quit and tried to delete the app, but it just was removed from my Home Screen and apparently I cannot remove it from my phone completely so here I am. Holy cow. Oh…and to add to the stress, I was on two 3 hour flights today and I am currently enduring a 2:30 hour car ride through the middle of the desert in Idaho. My legs hurt and I feel like my body is about to get glued to a seat, as that is all I have been doing today; sitting. And to top it off, I sat in the middle seat on both flights and on the second flight there was a (I don’t want to be rude but) person who took up an amount of space that could make one feel uncomfortable sitting right next to me. The WiFi didn’t work on either flight. When I landed, me and my friend put in a couple dollars into an air hockey machine while waiting for the bags and the disc/puck never came out. We also lost 10 bucks on a claw machine. Hope you have a nice day 😭😭😭😭😭.
I want to offer simple design improvements that would engage users to a whole other level. This is so far a chess app / website that allows you to just play chess but severely lacks an actual chess community to the degree in which I see its potential. We want to find professional players / engage and keep up with chess news. People don’t want to read articles that’s boring. When I go to a professional chess players page all I see is comment spam from random people and no actual comments or video updates from the chess player them self. It needs to have Facebook comment design prioritizing the users comments at the top and then the most like comments after. They should also be able to add photos that could be commented on and liked. Secondly there are SO MANY sections that are not grouped up accordingly. People love simplicity. There should be a (Play) (Learn) (Watch) (News). Instead, all the categories that should be located inside each drop box are scattered outside these categories and are extremely ugly and overwhelming. Besides that to somehow promote twitch engagement would be huge and lastly, getting borders for your advertisements would help you look like s more high quality website. I just love chess so much and this app. I want this app to be successful and the chess community to grow.
Hi there, been playing on the app for about a month and started to really like it so looked at the memberships and there’s 3 levels ... $30, $50, and $80 (I believe) for a year, provided you pay upfront and not month by month. I was like ok I get it... there’s lots of features so you have to pay for more of them. Well that’s all good, I get that. My main issue is with the puzzles that sometimes the “opponent” player doesn’t make the best move so you can’t actually solve the puzzle correctly unless you guess they will do the wrong thing. Solved a puzzle today and I would’ve gotten it right however the opponent made the worse move of their two moves and thereby I made the wrong move because I predicted the opponent would obviously make the best move. Please creators/admins fix this issue. It’s really not the way the puzzles should function. If you fix this I will gladly change my rating to 5 stars since that’s my main issues. Also I couldn’t find anywhere in the app to report this. But secondly to advertise their “videos” to watch to learn and improve in a notification or have it ever present on the main menu is really annoying when you can’t even watch the whole video because you don’t have the most expensive membership. I don’t like that. Just an annoying paywall situation where I already paid for the app.
This is the preferred chess app across platforms whether on mobile or web. However it has major issues. I’m a very good player and usually play rapids. The rating system is so weak. I play with players sometimes lower than me by as much as 500 ELOs. This is a poor representation because I want to be matched with opponents on a similar skill level. The worst is when they cheat, which brings me into my second issue. I’ve come across many people who cheat and finds moves very quickly in the nick of time. There are various other forms of cheating including literally changing the position of how the placement of pieces are oriented. Additionally, I have come across many manipulation techniques by individuals. Lately, it’s been more of a network issue only on this app. I lose ELO when people purposely are losing to me because of there being a continuous message of reconnecting. My ELO goes away, but I am more so bothered how they are compensated for it. Next, the rating system is rigged. I play 2 matches, lose 1 and win 1 against someone else with same ELO. I lose more ELO than what I started with, meaning the other person gains more ELO. Not sure how that’s fair. And of course, the lower ranking people do this a lot more finding moves that are not indicative of their skill level. App would easily be 5 stars if this was all addressed, as well as support being readily available to players!
I have been playing on this app religiously for over a year now! I was pretty bad at first. Got my blitz rating down to the low 300’s (not that I’ve never played, just hadn’t in a while and lost a grasp for the game) and have been building my account up game by game for over a year! I was almost at a rating of 800 when one user got livid at how bad I was beating him! He completely stopped playing and made me wait for the clock to run out to secure my win all the while messaging me insisting that I am cheating and he was going to report me! I obviously didn’t take him seriously because I assumed they’d look at the game and see we were playing at the same speed and his multiple blunders were the cause of this massacre as well as how could ONE ACCUSATION cause my account to be banned? Well guess what, the next morning MY ACCOUNT WAS BANNED! All of that hard work, achievements acquired, games I’ve learned from, just taken away from me without anyone reaching out, notifying me, and at least letting me say my side. I am completely dissatisfied and will let all of my friends who I recommended to this app to delete immediately for their unjust handling of this situation! You are really banning people on spot because of one accusation??? Really????? For the customer service rep reading this, I hope you look at all of my match history, All two thousand of them, and tell me I did anything different in that match than in any other match I won or lost! Please
