Checkers Premium by Optime is the gold standard for anyone looking for a digital version of this classic game. What sets it apart is the 'Martin Fierz' AI engine. Many checkers apps have predictable or weak AI, but this one provides a genuine challenge that feels like playing against a skilled human. It is surprisingly strategic, and even at higher levels, it rarely makes a blunder.
The game also features excellent turn-based multiplayer via Game Center, allowing you to play against friends asynchronously. Visually, it’s clean and professional, with high-res artwork that looks great on modern displays. One small point of contention among users is the 'Forced Jump' rule, which is standard in checkers but can be toggled in the settings if you prefer a more casual experience. For a simple board game, the production value here is top-notch.

Invite friends through Game Center or find random opponents. Games are turn-based, so you can play at your own convenience.
The AI difficulty is fully configurable. For beginners, the computer will make more errors, while the expert level is quite challenging.
By default, yes, as per official rules, but you can toggle this option off in the settings for casual play.
Lots of personality...for a checkers game. After a few thousand rounds you'll begin to understand what's meant by that. Good company in deep nights. Don't care for having to diddle with a dialogue when making a double, and newer apps do away with this. If implemented, highlighting the route through multiple jumps and allowing these to be completed with minimal finger movements/dialogues would simplify play. This is a great, stable app for passing the time while giving your brain a light workout.
I’ve been using the free app for years, and while it was annoying at times, it was a decent app for being one of the free options. I recently decided to splurge and pay the $2 for the upgraded version. What a fool I am. The add box still pops up and wants to take me to the upgrade option, which then takes me to the store and clearly shows I have already done so. There are no new features, nor does it run any smoother. Also, as other reviewers have stated, the Network play option is ridiculous. There is no time limit for moves, and when you do get matched with someone, half the time they take their turn, and then disappear. The computer play option works well enough, so just do yourself a favor and keep your $2 and continue on your merry way with the free version.
Other player never has to move. Game Center constantly logs you out and games disappear midway through. Really a poor excuse for an app. Players frequently quit, and there’s a hack where if you’re winning, and your opponent asks for a draw, and you click on “no” to the requested draw, your chips become your opponent’s and vice-versa, and you are now the losing player. It’s like this app maker knows nothing about checkers whatsoever. Microsoft games for checkers was the best to play against other good players, but sadly, Microsoft shut them down last year. The search for a worthy app continues...
I don not like the new piece on the checkerboard. For some reason they are not clear? The pieces look fuzzy and undefined. Can you make then look crisp? Sometimes, when the computer had two possible choices the game freezes and I have to set a new game from menu. Otherwise, I am always enjoying a game or two. John-Paul Martin
This is the greatest game that I have ever played. The “undo” button makes the gameplay easier, along with a finetuned difficulty that is very good. Also, the computer is very good for players that are improving their checkers skills like me. I would truly rate this app 5 stars. It is ideal wherever I go so that I can relax my mind. 😊
I love the "undo" button that gives me another chance to make a different move. Also, there are enough levels of play to choose from so that each player can select the one wanted.
Purchased this so that I can play against my daughter. If you download onto a device with a new iOS, there is no Game Center anymore. You try to invite friends and it tells you to do it through Game Center but Apple removed it and there is no longer a way for me to invite my daughter to play. Works fine if you want to play the computer.
The app keeps saying it is "unable to match right now". I cannot play. This had been going on for two weeks. I like playing checkers. It would be nice if I could block certain players from playing with me. Some just start a game and then never play again or they just end it after one or two moves. It is the same players. Napoleonbambo just started 21 games with me then ended right away. This is a waste if my time. I want to block this one.
The #1 Checkers app for iOS just got better. Play against your Game Center friends or random opponents using our new turn-based multiplayer...
