This update improves the experience on the latest devices and versions of iOS.
Castles Board Game is a hidden gem for fans of tile-placement strategy. It takes the classic mechanics of games like Carcassonne and distills them into a clean, mobile-friendly format that works perfectly for both quick solo matches and long sessions with friends. The core loop of placing tiles to build roads, churches, and castles is simple to learn but offers deep tactical possibilities, especially when you start fighting over 'peasant' placement to claim major territory.
The app's 'pass and play' mode is fantastic for family gatherings, but the online multiplayer via Game Center is where the real challenge lies. I was also pleasantly surprised by the 'computer' players; the AI is surprisingly competent, especially if you unlock the 'Hard' difficulty. It’s an automatically saving game, which is a huge plus for mobile—you can close the app mid-turn and jump right back in whenever you have a free minute. If you enjoy spatial puzzles and competitive board games, this is an essential download.
Engaging tile-based gameplay for 2-4 players
Online multiplayer and local 'Pass and Play' support
Challenging computer AI with adjustable difficulty
Auto-save feature to resume games at any time
Clean, modern UI with clear tile and follower graphics
Each turn, you'll draw a tile. You must place it so that its features (roads, castle walls, fields) match the tiles already on the table. After placing a tile, you can choose to place a peasant on it. Be careful: you have a limited number of peasants! Only place them on large features like big castles or long roads to maximize your points. You get your peasant back once a feature is 'completed' (e.g., a castle is fully walled in).
The game supports 2-4 players. You can play a 'Pass and Play' match on a single device, making it great for travel. For a greater challenge, head online to find opponents through Game Center. If you prefer solo play, the AI offers multiple difficulty levels (with 'Hard' available as an in-app purchase) to keep your tactical skills sharp.
While the gameplay is inspired by classic tile-placement games, this app has no official connection to the Carcassonne brand.
Yes, you can play against real people online through Game Center support.
Glad I found this little gem. I prefer portrait mode, and other similar Carcassonne-type games are only in landscape. This plays both ways. It’s fast, smooth, easy. No ads, no IAP (other than for an additional hard mode if you want it). I’m not good at the game yet but I enjoy it. I appreciate developers like this who monetize fairly and design good games that also don’t take a bunch of space on your phone. Thank you!
I play this game all throughout the day. It’s a quick, fun break. I have to think and plan a little, but there’s no stress. The graphics are like I was used to from the original physical game. I like that. Feels simple, wholesome and fun. I wish there was an analysis of the final scores ( how many road points va cities and farms.) Otherwise, it is perfect and I never have experienced any glitches.
I absolutely love this game! Works with multiplayer or against the computer. Also got the Hard Computer player in-app purchase. That’s definitely worth it. Medium was too easy for me.
i like this game. it’s very similar to carcassonne. love playing it!
Really fun app.
