Words Mahjong is a clever and surprisingly addictive hybrid that I didn't know I needed. By taking the classic tile-clearing logic of Mahjong and replacing the symbols with letters, it turns the game into a vocabulary-building exercise. You aren't just looking for identical patterns; you're scanning the board for potential words, which adds a wonderful layer of cognitive challenge.
The 'search and merge' mechanics are well-implemented, with a smooth UI that makes connecting letters feel tactile and rewarding. I particularly liked the 'Zen' mode, which removes the pressure of the timer and lets you focus on finding the longest possible words. It’s a great 'commute' game—it’s mentally stimulating but relaxing enough to play after a long day. It’s a polished, smart evolution of the word-puzzle genre.
Innovative Mahjong-Word hybrid gameplay
Thousands of unique puzzle levels
Daily vocabulary and logic challenges
Beautifully themed tile sets and backgrounds
Don't just clear the first word you see. Look for letters that are 'stacking' multiple tiles. Clearing a word that sits on top of three other layers is much more valuable for opening up the board than clearing an isolated word on the edges.
Save your 'Suffix' tiles (like S, ED, or ING). Adding these to a 3-letter word not only clears more tiles but also significantly boosts your score multiplier, which is the key to earning 3-stars on the harder stages.
Standard mode features a timer for extra challenge, while 'Zen Mode' allows you to play at your own pace.
I have upgraded this review to 4 stars. I promised 5 stars if issue was resolved, and it was but I am holding at 4 stars because I am disappointed that in only a few weeks I completed all levels of the game. I would have thought that at 4.99 USD there would have been more levels. I do not recall seeing when I purchased that the game was so limited. A great game but sadly, it’s done. Iriginal review: I like the game. I like it enough that I paid 4.99 USD to escape the many and terrible ads. I am still seeing ads, particularly for Word Craze. Please either refund 4.99 or do what is necessary so that I can play ad-free. I am happy to write a 5 star review when this addressed and fixed. Thank you in advance. I look forward to your reply.
While I enjoy finding very large words, there is no point. There is no historical list of the words you have made in the past, your limited on the number of letters in your word in which you spell out and at the end of every round is another mahjong puzzle. Couldn’t you add something, like saving the points per puzzle to buy virtual swag, or have something to aim for! Create challenge rounds with a timer, or to come up with a 13 letter word, or something like you provide a phrase, and there is a hidden answer, however you must select the correctly shown tiles to be able to make specific words. If there are 5 words scrambled within the Mahjong round, then some letters maybe be available for all five words however we need to determine what letters we should use to spell out all five words by selecting specific tiles in a random order so that someone could earn points or something to use later in the game for achievements.
The game itself is okay. If you track to know how to target ads according to interest though, y’all are very off, and it’s off-putting. Ads for games about cheating spouses/partners, because someone needs a makeup are definitely not anything in which I’m interested. I would be pleased to not see those ads. And I will be happy to not see zombie/apocalypse type ads. Thankfully so far haven’t see those, but I’ve only recently downloaded. Oh, and I understand periodically watching ads, but to have to watch an ad to receive a reward is not a reward. If it’s a reward, you shouldn’t be forced to watch an ad to receive it. Maybe consider watching an ad in order to double the reward, instead? I have seen that on other games, watching ads to double rewards, and that is the better way.
I really enjoyed this game. Found it very challenging. Next thing I know I’m on the last puzzle. I wonder if I start over if it will be just as challenging. I started it over again and was really enjoying the challenge. However, three days ago it wouldn’t download. I’ve deleted and reinstalled several times. Even installed on different device but will not download. Can this be fixed? It finally loaded after a minute or so. Now it takes like 5 seconds. Thanks for responding. Love this game. Am totally addicted. Also people are complaining about ads. I only see them when I add something.
This game would be unceasingly amazing if the the letter count wasn’t restricted at 11 letters max. Do you know how disappointing it is to find a word like chiropractic or underestimated and NOT be able to use it due to a letter restriction in the game? Also, where are the Z’s? There are 26 letters in the alphabet and this game could be great but y’all are out here playing in our faces. Please consider an update. In the meantime I love this game and would love it significantly more if I could just use larger words. I’m trying so hard not to get bored here smh 💁🏾♀️ I will even pay for an upgraded version in which there is no word size restriction. 11 letters max is a joke when there are millions of words in the English dictionary. This game will get 3 stars from me until this matter is improved. 😒
So, is there anyone that runs this game anymore. There has been no response to anybody in a couple years. What the heck is? I really love this game. I’ve been playing it for a couple years and I’ve won the levels so many times that I have lost count. You guys need to do something to improve this game. Or sell it to somebody that will. Could you guys have a great idea but on the same exact thing for years already, please do something more with it let somebody else do it. I have absolutely no problems with ads. I paid to not have them and I’ve never had them. Once in a great while it’ll take a minute to load the game when I first open it, but I’ve never had any issues with the game itself.
I downloaded the game from an ad while I was playing another game. The ad showed a word search type game with the screen scrolling up while you had to find words. This game isn’t like that at all, it’s just a typical find words through a group of letters which is a dime a dozen type game. I was looking forward to what the ad showed so I’m pretty disappointed, I thought somewhere maybe it would change to what the ad showed so I played up to level 50 and nope it’s the same thing level after level. So disappointed
I started playing this game recently and really like it! However, I’m not liking ads that now run for 60 seconds, especially the ones for Royal Match. I don’t mind ads that you can close after 15 or 20 seconds, which several of the games I currently play have, but this is ridiculous. Even after paying for opting out of ads unless I’m getting a reward, I’m finding that I can’t always get back to the game without closing down and starting up the game again. I will miss playing, but not the never ending ads.
