Our Expert Score

95/100

We'll Always Have Paris is a profoundly moving experience that demonstrates the power of mobile gaming as a medium for storytelling. This is a short, narrative-driven adventure about Simon, a retired chef, and his wife Claire, who is living with dementia. The gameplay is intentionally simple and pressure-free, allowing the emotional weight of the narrative to take center stage. You participate in the mundane tasks of their daily life, which become increasingly poignant as Claire's memory fades.

The art style is soft and inviting, perfectly complementing the 'wholesome' but heartbreaking nature of the story. It’s a compact experience designed to be played in one sitting, and it doesn't overstay its welcome. Instead of high scores or leaderboards, the reward is a deeper understanding of love, loss, and the resilience of a 50-year marriage. For anyone who has experienced memory loss in their family, this game is both a comfort and a beautiful tribute. It’s an essential play for fans of narrative indie games.

Amazing Story! Highly recommend!

I went into this game blind, and I loved it. If you’re contemplating buying the game, it’s definitely worth the price. It’s short, but there’s many little mini games to entertain you as you play through the story. But the real gem is the story itself. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just refer to it as my disease of study. The game excellently portrays the disease in an easy to understand and culpable way. If you want to experience a lifetime in 10 minutes, this game provides.

I never write reviews, but this game was so heartbreaking and lovely. My grandparents are going through this right now and it's encouraging to see that there's still happiness in there.

I wish I could play

I can’t get very far because I always get stuck on the part where you have to find an umbrella in the bedroom. I’ve tapped on every square inch of the screen trying to find it. I’ve opened the award on the shelf about 100 times and put the puzzle together 3 times now because it doesn’t save my progress. There is no umbrella to be found and I can’t move past this part. Please fix!

Very short for the price - disappointing

This is basically a follow along story, that lasts about 10 minutes. There is no deviation, or possibility of a different outcome or story line. There is no gameplay. No replay value. There are no real puzzles. Graphics are very minimal, but not in an arty way. In a “didn’t bother to put in a lot of effort” way. Its games like this that make consumers hesitant to purchase anything any longer.

beautiful!

the game is so pretty. one thing though is that it wasn’t long enough :( i finished it in under an hour but it’s really beautiful and the music chosen is great!

Too short, not very long or entertaining

Not long enough to warrant money in my opinion. Disappointed in the difficulty and lack of branches, I thought it would be harder with multiple ending based on choices. Not awful be any means, just disappointing that it’s paid.

Great Game!

CAUTION: Spoiler I overall really enjoyed it. It’s a short and emotional story definitely worth playing. While the twist could have easily been poorly handled and seen a mile away, it managed to execute it perfectly and leave me surprised, making the reveals as the resolution played out feel more poignant. The only issue that really bugged me was the dialogue writing. Some of it felt unnatural and stiff to read, with one or two heavy expositions as well. I can’t recall exactly which one, but I do remember one of the Jean-Marc messages being particularly clunky and expositional when I read it. The art style also feels a tad generic for this type of text-based story game, with the minimalist forms contrasting against the solid colored background. That’s not to say it was bad by any means, it just feels very run-of-the-mill for such a game, and while I don’t have a specific example off the top of my head, I know I’ve definitely seen it before. It was clearly handled with much more care than it’s rivals, and maybe if I hadn’t seen it from the App Store first, I wouldn’t have made such a connection, since it’s usually cheap, quickly put together mobile games that use it just to save time. Given the personally done illustrations, thematic significance, and symbolic use on things like the absent faces, I can say wasn’t the case here. My first impression was an assumption it would be like those other games based on the art, and it wasn’t at all, but I almost skipped it completely. If I saw it on the App Store without the game of the day tag, I probably would have skipped and missed out on the story. This paragraph is less of a real issue than it is my personal opinions on the art, and the industry itself is much more at fault for my gripes than the artist or work. Because the impression almost made me ignore it, and I’m sure someone else probably thought the same thing, but they might not have downloaded it anyways, I added it in here. Might be worth something to you. Again, great game! The review sounds mostly negative, but take it as a complement because that means the complaints were so few I could address them specifically, and the praise was so much I couldn’t fit it in beyond generalizations! 5/5!

Kinda interesting story, but honestly not worth the money. Plus it’s really short…
