Vampire: The Masquerade – Cony is an intriguing and stylish puzzle-adventure that successfully distills the dark, gothic world-building of the World of Darkness into a mobile-friendly format. The game leans heavily into the 'Secret Society' aspect of the franchise, tasking you with solving mysteries and navigating political intrigue while managing your vampire's hunger. As a professional reviewer, I was particularly impressed by the atmospheric art direction, which utilizes high-contrast silhouettes and deep shadows to create a palpable sense of dread.
The puzzle design is clever, often requiring you to use your supernatural 'Disciplines' to manipulate the environment or extract information from NPCs. While the story is less expansive than the PC titles, it captures that specific 'urban fantasy' vibe that fans of the franchise love. It’s a smart, moody experience that provides a unique blend of logic puzzles and narrative choice, making it a great entry point for newcomers and a fun distraction for veteran kindred.
Rich World of Darkness Lore
Intricate Logic and Story Puzzles
Stunning High-Contrast Art Style
Branching Narrative Choices
When you encounter a locked dialogue option, check your 'Auspex' level. High Auspex allows you to see the hidden intentions of an NPC, revealing the correct item or clue needed to convince them to help you without resorting to violence.
Every puzzle move consumes a small amount of 'Blood.' If your hunger meter hits zero, your vampire will enter a 'Frenzy,' making the puzzles significantly harder and the story outcomes more dangerous. Look for 'Feed' icons in the environment to keep your meter topped off.
No, the game provides a helpful codex that explains the vampire clans and rules as you encounter them.
Love the VTMB universe this game has been really fun so far
While this is basically a “chose your own adventure” graphic novel, your decisions feel inconsequential and only affect some minor details about how some events in the middle of the story play out. You can’t really screw it up even when you make choices that should screw it up. And no matter what you do, with any of the three different starting characters you get to choose from, the ending is always the same. You have no way to actually alter the journey, just color some flavor on the way. Would have been nice if you could have made some bad choices that actually got you killed, or some intuitive choices that positively changed the ending. As-is it was neat enough and worth the $5, but it could have been so much more. Think I will pass on the sequel.
The story is good, but I don’t like the game. You may as well just read the plot in a book. Especially in the beginning, there are many dialogues with only options that force you into bad situations. Even if there are options you CAN pick that are different from what you are “expected” to pick, it seems like it would generally result in a game over. I don’t know this for sure because I only did it once. It immediately ended the game and deleted my save. In short: Good story but choice appears to be an illusion.
Absolute waste of $5…. I didn’t want to read a book…
