Twice As Clever (Doppelt so clever) is the brilliant sequel to 'Ganz schön clever,' and it definitely lives up to its name. This digital version of the popular 'roll-and-write' board game is a masterpiece of puzzle design. It takes the core mechanic of choosing dice to fill in sections of your scorecard but introduces new, more complex scoring zones that require even more long-term planning.
The 'Silver' section, which introduces a cascading effect based on the dice you've taken, is a game-changer. The app’s UI is clean and efficient, making it much easier to track your scores and 'combos' than the physical paper version. It’s a high-stakes logic puzzle that rewards players for seeing the connections between different colors. If you love Sudoku or strategic board games, this will be your new addiction.
Faithful digital board game adaptation
Complex new scoring mechanics
Global high-score leaderboards
Smooth, automated gameplay flow
Use the new 'Return' action to bring a die back from the silver platter. This is crucial in the final rounds to ensure you get the high-value dice needed to complete your most valuable rows.
The Pink section allows you to enter any value, but you only get the bonus if the number is high enough. Focus on using high-value Pink dice early to unlock the 'Any Number' bonuses in other sections.
No, but it is recommended as 'Twice As Clever' is significantly more complex than the original.
I’ve playing this game in person and absolutely love it. The game works great in solo mode, but I wish there were AIs to play against. Also, I’ve seen other reviews mentioning an online mode to play with other players, which seems to be completely missing from my app. If these features were added, this would be a 5 star review!
I own this and Ganz Schon Clever and enjoy them both but when you are done playing the app unless you actually flick up to quit it the next time you go to your home screen it thinks it’s music has the play and pause navigation buttons on your home screen for this app which doesn’t make any sense. Would be really nice if this was fixed and also if an undo button was added. Overall though the app is super solid and one I’d highly recommend if you enjoy roll and writes!
Game plays well as of Aug 2019 as a solo game of the original paper roll and write. Only gripe I have is that the online mode that worked when I first downloaded the game last month seems to have stopped working. Online mode tracks all players' high scores and tracks a history of your own plays that I enjoyed. There does not seem to be a button/setting I can press to go online.
I've played a few games now and notice that it allows me to play dice against the rules. Like a green 3 on a space that requires 4 or higher. And also sometimes when you earn a bonus it's not applied. Like a yellow bonus that doesn't allow you to select a space in the yellow box. It just has you hit "next". These kinds of things have happened a lot on all different squares. Hopefully an update will fix it soon.
While I like the game and play the table top version often, I’ve been frustrated with the app. The first yellow bonus in pink does not allow you pick a yellow. This has happened twice that I have I noticed. I had a similar issue with the pink bonus from the yellow section.
I was having tons of fun with this game. But the latest update caused it to log me out and it won’t let me log back in so my statistics are gone. Also, the game frame is shifted up and to the left so the top bit of the game board is just missing. It’s still playable, but half as good as it used to be, hence the review dropping from 5 to 3 stars.
While a little more complicated than GanzSchönClever, it’s very fun. One thing to note, the instructions are a little unclear on scoring the silver section. The vertical lines of x you make are only for the bonuses. You score using the horizontal lines of x you make.
I’m more than happy to improve this review if you fix an annoying bug. For some reason, the pink die cannot be used to fill in the pink row in the grey area unless it’s used as the result of a grey dice action. So this means that you are often constrained from completing the column objectives unless you happen to use a grey dice roll to activate the lower quantity pink dice. If you fix this bug, I’ll change my rating to where it should be, which is 5 stars.
