• Fixes a number of minor issues
Bringing a Total War title to mobile is always a Herculean task, but Napoleon is handled with grace here. The UI has been completely rethought for fingers rather than mice; the 'pinch-to-zoom' and gesture-based unit commands feel surprisingly natural after a brief learning curve.
Performance is the real story here. Seeing thousands of line infantrymen exchange fire with smoke effects clouding the battlefield on an iPad is breathtaking. It captures the 'Grand' in Grand Strategy perfectly. The diplomacy feels a bit simplified compared to the PC original, but the core tactical combat remains the gold standard for the genre.
Epic Real-Time Battles
Turn-Based Campaign Map
Intuitive Touch Controls
Historical Accuracy
High-Fidelity Graphics
Place your cannons on high ground (indicated by green terrain highlights) to extend their range and improve their line of sight. Use 'Canister Shot' when infantry gets close for devastating effect.
Use group-select gestures to move entire battalions in formation. Maintaining your 'Line of Fire' is crucial; ensure your units aren't obstructed by friendly troops or they won't shoot.
Yes, the full naval combat system from the original game is present, optimized for mobile touch interaction.
This game is fantastic, I can say that with assurance. However I think there are a few release bugs that could be ironed out sooner or later. For one, if you group your units and try to move that group at the same time with a tap, it gets a bit finicky, it’ll either place them with a large gap, or it’ll send them across the map? A smaller bug is that the British Foot and, I believe, the French Fusiliers of Line use the wrong voicelines. Whenever I tap on the British Foot, they announce themselves as the “Revolutionary Guard” or “Elite Foot” when they are not all that. Same with the french, it sounds like they sometimes announce themselves as “Garde” or something something “D’Elite”. Overall these bugs aren’t too big, but I would like to see a small patch to see these two, and any other ones i may have missed, fixed. Love your games, Feral Interactive! xoxo <3<3
I have 300+ hrs of NTW gameplay on my PC, so naturally I had to try the mobile version when it came out. Nevertheless, I found the touch screen unit control to be extremely awkward, which resulted in constant mistakes during maneuvers and deployment in battle. I think the developers could’ve user test it a bit more before releasing. For example, when I want a unit to flank the enemy, instead of simply selecting the unit and tap the target area and rotate to deploy (like the PC control, select and deploy), the current control forces you to go back to the particular unit and hold precisely (otherwise you often get the useless drawing trail tool, which requires you to reselect and hold again). The unit selection is also very frustrating when I maneuver back and forth between a few different units. For example, after I positioned one unit, I often want to move other units, but previous units also got moved. This happens so often that it interrupts the flow of a battle and requires constant corrections, which became tiring very soon. This logic forces players to untoggle previously selected unit after each move, which is very redundant and inconsistent.
I cannot believe they actually released my favorite total war game of all time on mobile! Yes, it maybe a challenge to learn the controls. But I’ll take it any day! It’s fun and addictive gameplay never gets old. I prefer Napoleon over Empire, as the fighting and graphics are much more refined. Although Empire has a bigger map, Napoleon can make you relieve world war like scenarios in Europe! So it’s awesome! Maybe Shogun 2 would be the next in the series I would purchase if made available! The game runs spectacular on the latest iPhone 17.
Though the graphics are better for Napoleon, gameplay is WAY more enjoyable in Rome. The turn limit for the campaign is stupid, get rid of it or give the option to turn it off. Makes everything feel rushed and I hate it. After a few more hours I have to say I strongly dislike this game. Battles are extremely tedious and the UI makes everything feel cluttered. Campaigns feel like they’re on rails, you’re forced to start with historical territory and relationships with other nations. There is no custom, “start from scratch” type gameplay that made Total War: Rome so great. This game has no freedom and I regret my purchase. That’s what I get for assuming it was like Total War: Rome.
Dear feralinteractive, this game is amazing But I have a few suggestions. 1. Pls make it so General units can dismount it would be so accurate if your trying to recreate a historical battle 2. Please make it so there a band units. So men can play songs like the girl I left behind me or for the French victory is ours 3. Make it so i can change the uniforms of the soldiers like if I was trying to make a battle that takes place in the 1790s but I am stuck with the 1800s uniforms please do this. 4. Please make it so I can download mods on mobile.
I spent a lot of time playing Total War Empire, and was hungering to have Napoleon ported over. The graphics are great and performance seems to have been enhanced. The motion is a lot more fluid and there aren’t any performance stutters like I’ve sometimes had on my m2 iPad Pro. I also appreciate minor improvements such as updated UI elements. And having all the expansions added in. Be prepared though, this is a large game. It is taking up 23GB on my iPad. So a consideration for those who have lower storage iDevices.
I grew up playing this game in elementary school. They have done an amazing port which has seamless graphics, has no in-app purchases, and is a full computer game on the phone. You are not just “buying” this game, you are funding the future development of full computer games on the phone with no strings attached. Know that when you ponder purchasing.
I have gotten every single total war game on mobile but so far I think this is the best one. I have found nothing to hate about it. The one problem I have is that I really struggled to download because of how much space it takes up. I think this is because the game and the dlc are all included in one. So if I could download the dlc separately I think it would be perfect. As I could download it without being pressed for storage space. Other than that I have zero problems.
