The Rewinder is an atmospheric adventure game that uses a striking pixel-art style reminiscent of traditional Chinese ink paintings. Players take control of Yun, a special investigator with the ability to travel through time by entering the memories of spirits. By manipulating the 'intentions' of people in the past, Yun can change the outcome of the present. The game is steeped in Chinese mythology, featuring spirits, gods, and a deep narrative about life, death, and duty.

Our Expert Score

89/100

The Rewinder is a hauntingly beautiful experience. The art style is the first thing that grabs you—it looks like a classic scroll come to life through low-res pixels. It’s incredibly atmospheric, with a sense of melancholy that perfectly suits its ghost-story narrative.

The 'rewinding' mechanic is more than just a gimmick; it’s a clever way to tell a story while giving the player agency. Finding the right 'intention' to plant in someone’s mind feels like solving a psychological mystery. It’s a slower-paced game, but for those who enjoy a deep, culturally rich story and clever puzzles, it’s a standout title. It’s rare to find a mobile game with this much heart and historical flavor.

Not no-controller compatible

The spinning wheel puzzle doesn’t work on mobile without a controller because it tells you to move the left controller, but I’m not using a controller, and when it reaches the green part, it’s impossible for me to actually do what’s needed, Waste of 5 dollars total since I paid for the doc and all chapters….
