The Impossible Game is a minimalist, high-speed platformer that will test your reflexes and patience to their limits. With only one control—tap the screen to jump—you must guide your square through a minefield of spikes and pits. Everything is synchronized to an addictive electronic soundtrack. Featuring a Practice Mode to help you learn the levels, this game is a test of skill, timing, and perseverance. One mistake, and it's back to the very beginning.

Our Expert Score

89/100

The Impossible Game is a legendary title that helped define the 'rage-platformer' genre on mobile. It is a masterclass in minimalism: you are a square, the world is made of triangles and blocks, and the music is your only guide. The sync between the techno soundtrack and the jumps is what makes the game hypnotic rather than just frustrating. When you die—and you will die hundreds of times—you respawn instantly, keeping the momentum going.

While the main game only features a few levels, the difficulty is so high that completing just one feels like a massive achievement. The inclusion of 'Practice Mode' (where you can drop flags as checkpoints) is the only thing that keeps it from being truly impossible. It’s a game of pure muscle memory and rhythm. If you have even a shred of competitive spirit, you will find yourself saying 'just one more try' at 2:00 AM.

Nostalgia Factor

I first played this game years ago on Xbox, hours of fun with friends getting further and further with each level as we memorized the patterns with the music. Bought again on one of my first iPhones several years ago, and loved it just the same. I’ve recently re-downloaded it on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and these are the things I’m experiencing on occasion. 1. Sometimes on the level selection, it pulls up the subsequent level (e.g. when I select Chaos Fantasy it pulls up the Heaven level) rather than the one I selected, so I have to go back out and try again. No biggie. 2. The game will stutter for lack of a better term so that the music isn’t in sync with the block anymore. It throws me off a little bit when part of my muscle memory for the jumps is tied to the music. Not every time, but often enough to be noticeable. Overall, love this game, have played it on and off for years and I’m amazed at how much my thumbs still remember it. Others have mentioned Geometry Dash which I think I will give a try, but this was definitely the game that inspired it.

Been a fan since day 1

And all I ask for is new levels. The expansion pack is well worth the $0.99. I beat the game multiple times, and I still come back to this app to relive my childhood memories of trying to beat levels like Chaoz Fantasy. I loved when Phazd was added and thought it would be the start of regularly added levels. Haven’t heard anything since from Flukedude :(

Solid, classic game

Simple yet challenging and addictive, with great music. This game is the original btw (2009), geometry dash came after (2013). It has had a bug pop up here and there but they’re normally fixed quickly, so just be patient. While some people are complaining that you get 2 levels for $1, then the 3 extra ones for an additional $1, spending $2 for 5 unique and fun levels really isn’t so bad. The reason it’s like that is cas the game is a 2009 release so it made more sense back then. Overall, it’s an enjoyable app and if you like geometry dash you’ll like this, just keep in mind it’s not as content heavy but that’s because it’s older.

I was a huge fan of this game back in the day, I beat all the levels and still had fun playing it over and over. Recently saw a kid playing geometry Dash and it reminded me of this game so I went on the App Store to see if it was still around and I was surprised to see the game was still up so I re-downloaded it and I’ve been playing it but it doesn’t seem to run 100% on the newer iPhones still runs good, but you can definitely see some visual latency so I was hoping if you have the time you can update it to the new iOS version

Best Game

I bought this game back in middle school (2012). This game not only has good mechanics but also music that takes this game to the next level. Every level is well done. The game goes beautifully along with the song. There’s no other game that does this. You’ll spend hours mastering your muscle memory and your reflexes. Then, you’ll play it casually and enjoy the music.

What is going on?

My game is running super slow. It’s like slow motion but the music is running at normal speed? Also why can’t we save our progress to the Game Center. I deleted and downloaded the game over to see if it would fix the slow motion but it didn’t and now I lost all progress? Great game when running correctly!

Thank you for keeping this up to date for all iOS and devices

I’ve been playing this game for so long and it’s probably the only game I’ve had on my phone from the beginning, I sometimes go over a year without playing it but every time I want to play it I am able to. Thank you for the quality game

Better than Geometry Dash

Love this game. Music is amazing, and the levels are very complex. I found more enjoyment out of this game than I have Geometry Dash, which is clearly a copy of this game. That being said, this game’s only drawback is it is old, not really supported, and consequently the levels can get repetitive if you beat the whole game. Otherwise, super fun game.
