Text Express: Word Adventure is a masterpiece of the genre, blending high-quality storytelling with addictive word puzzles. It’s far more than just another crossword clone. You follow Tilly on her customisable train through a beautiful steampunk world, and the narrative depth is genuinely surprising for a mobile game.
What I appreciate most is the freedom the game offers. You aren't forced down a single path; you can roam the map, discover landmarks, and play various mini-games at your own pace. There’s no 'energy' system, so you can play for hours without being blocked. It’s relaxing, visually stunning, and intellectually stimulating. Winning 'Best Puzzle Game' was well-deserved; it’s a high-water mark for what mobile word games can be.

Text Express seems to overcome one of the largest hurdles with mobile games. Limits on your play. So many other games limit you in an attempt to get you to purchase energy or lives or force ads upon you every so often that keep you from play. Text Express only limits how quickly you can unlock new things, but you can continue to play as you traverse their world from end to end as you wait for different timers. Of course no mobile game would be without options to overcome some of these limits or options to watch ads in exchange for bonuses but Text Express never made me feel like I had to do any of it. To the point where I’d happily have given my money in support of the game simply out of enjoyment. That brings me to possibly my only reasonable negative, and not one that does anything but make me hopeful for improvement. The pricing of the items in the store and the subscription plan all seem a bit oddly priced compared to their counterparts in other games and the benefits of each one ever more so. I hope that this balances out and perhaps a package that simply allows me to continue opening up the story and map at a quicker pace becomes a bit more clear cut.
I’m impressed. Matching words across a circle is nothing new, but the rpg and story surrounding the game are done really well. I WANT to move around the map and explore regions, and location specific events help encourage that. I really like the spin off wordle, birdle, that is both thematically consistent and different enough to be something to look forward to. The dictionary is also a great feature. No mandatory ads is also very appreciated. My only suggestion is around UI. I’d love for the dictionary to be more accessible, and not a tiny icon sandwiched between two other settings at the top. I’d also like a way to cancel the current guess. Currently, to not break a streak, you’ll have to deselect a bad guess letter by letter. Sliding away far enough should cancel the whole guess. Great work Story Giant!
I really do like this game. It's fun and challenging with a cute story and I've gotten better at spelling and improved my vocabulary. Before this week I would have rated this game 5 stars. I just started a couple of weeks ago. However, this week in order to complete the weekly challenge you have to break open the bank 5 times. 5 TIMES!!!!! That's $25. No way am I spending $25 for a weekly challenge on a game I play on my IPad. If it was one time I would do it, but 5 TIMES!!!! On top of that I couldn't complete the 1st weekly challenge because it involved an area that didn't open until level 24. I played as much as I could and did get to level 24 but didn't have enough time to finish the challenge so I didn't receive the top prize. Last week was more reasonable and I was able to finish it. But this week? I'm going to be deleting this game because I can see it continuing to put in unreasonable weekly challenges. I don't know if this is an algorithm problem or greedy devs but either way the fun has been sucked out of it because of this. I can buy a game for my console and play whenever I want, however long I want, ad free for $60. Yet the games I play on my Ipad are constantly trying to get money. Either it's a laughable weekly subscription that makes the game horribly expensive or they nickel and dime you to death buying power ups. Heck of a racket. So it's back to searching for a more reasonable game for me 🤷🏻♀️ or give up completely and give my money to devs who write console games. Too bad, so sad 😢
I really enjoy playing this game. It’s a stress reliever and unlike some games, it’s not a complete money grab. The graphics are great and I love the story. The prizes that are given for daily and weekly challenges make me continue playing. The reason that it’s not a five-star game is because of the treasure system. I get that you want people to play on a regular basis, and I do. However, when the treasures are placed so far away from one stop to the next, the game stops being fun. Especially when you need to open 50 treasures during special events. This causes you to stop advancing in the game because you’re playing to open treasures before the event ends. The treasure system needs to be revamped. Maybe if you exit the game, the treasure can move to a different location or make some of the items that you win, i.e. new locomotive available for purchase with coins or diamonds.
I am not one to leave reviews. I give a game an honest chance and either keep or delete. With Text Express I am totally in love 😍 I don’t feel like I have to buy anything unless I really want to, and if I run out of energy I can still keep playing towards levels. The story line is cute, and the side characters are fun (I really love Eleanor LOL). I love that the game runs on quests versus a totally linear progression. The periodic additional events for bonus content are nice too. Even the ads aren’t bad 1 ad between levels. Doable for me 😁 I only have one suggestion that I have seen on other games that I think others might like as well and that’s when Tilly levels up to refill her wallet. Otherwise great job on a great game! I look forward to continuing to see where her adventures take her 👍
I’m always on the hunt for word games that my mom and I can play together and this is by far the best one out there so far. There’s many many ways to keep your brain thinking and working towards your goal of thinking and keeping your mind sharp. My mom is always saying I’m stuck on a word and gives me her letters so that I can get her unstuck ( she’s 78 ) I’ll tease her about it always. I know you can invite friends and family but I refuse to do social media so I hope you come up with another way to let us get to be friends soon. For now we’ll continue our way. I don’t usually have money to spend on games so perhaps you could think of another way for us to get our piggy banks and vaults…. Loving this game
It’s not a bad word search game, not challenging, they just added in some story stuff to it. They have pretend teams you can “join” that don’t do anything or give you bonuses even if your team “wins” the week. You see the usual sad people on the individual side who play WAY too much, where it’s like so far past the point of a score you should be proud of, and just “oh, sweetie… I’m so sorry for whatever is/isn’t going on in your life and I truly hope it turns around for you soon”. They have promotions and events you can’t be a part of unless you pay, pretty standard stuff, but you can play regular things without paying all you want. You can’t tell what words you’ve already played until you’re penalized for them which is annoying. But all in all it’s pretty good, I liked it for a quick diversion. Gets boring pretty quickly though unless you’re really easily amused.
Good Morning! I love the game. I have always loved trains and word games, you put them together. Thank you. You’re new upgrade has some things I don’t like. First, I am not a fan of the game going straight to the Task menu. I liked it better in the main menu were you could look at daily/weekly challenges, piggy bank, etc. This having to click out of the task menu to check something else is getting old. The second and biggest issue is “The Finger.” Since the new upgrade, on the side challenges, a gloved finger has started appearing showing possible words. I find this distracting, annoying and slightly insulting. I know some people may need this but I don’t. Can you add a way to turn it off if we don’t want it? Thanks.
