Improved scanning and sharing reliability, fixed UI issues, restored account actions, and enhanced list imports for a smoother overall experience.
As far as scanning cards go this is a great feature, but this frequently gets the set of scanned cards incorrect and correcting the set has to be done one-by-one, which is made even more time consuming on an IPhone X where the “x” to close card pages is hidden behind the time at the top left of these “notched” phones. I am also having an incredibly strange bug where I cannot read any of the settings for the app that contain an on and off slider. I can see the sliders in a list view in the options, but each row is completely blank so I cannot see what I am turning on and off. Searching in the normal TCGplayer website in this app is frustrating as well. The keyboard frequently shuts itself for no reason, loading seems to take ages in comparison to using the normal browser on my phone, and the layout of most pages still being exactly the same as desktop layout just zoomed out makes searching a complete nightmare, something that would likely be the reason most people download this app. All in all, this app’s potential is game-changing for those of us who sell cards. Scanning is second to none and I am hopeful for the ability to on the fly list scanned cards for sale without having to upload pictures. If even just some of these bugs are fixed this app would be outstanding for TCG players.
when I think of an application, I think of a self-contained app, not a website. If I wanted to visit the website, I could very easily just go visit the website. I don’t need you to embed a website in an app, and have it not track the fact that I’m signed in across all of its pages, require me to sign in every single time that I open, and the UI that does keep me signed in does not update the data correctly. this to me seems like something from the early 2000s that was just never updated properly, I would rather you make an actual app that is the app version of the website that I can sign into and actually remember my sign in for through closes, and not just be a glorified Web app shell of a website. i’m currently a fluttered developer, and I would encourage you for platform compatibility that you use flutter so you can have it across the marketplaces but in this current state, this is just a website that doesn’t have cookies or remember my password with a clunky shell. And I’m better off literally bookmarking the website in Safari and creating a desktop link then using this.
As per the title it’s true, it has only been going down hill to the point you should just use the website. The scanner is awful, personally I can’t get anything to scan even when using an all black or all white playmat. Also now when you want to manually add a card to your list they have gotten rid of the filter options so you can only sort by either name of set A-Z or Z-A, card name A-Z or Z-A or price from high to low or low to high. You can sort/filter it by card game. Heck you can even type the name exactly on the card & have it show up. I tried to look for the card “Rise of the Dark Realms” which is an MTG card & I get over 2,500 listings of different card from pretty much every card game ever & not the one card with that exact name. It’s so bad now I almost want to use anything BUT TCGPlayer because how are you going to update everything, make it look worse/more confusing & not have basic stuff work like…. Just use the website if you want to find anything & save the storage on your phone, it’s just not worth having anymore. Also I did want to add this, it’s was much easier & better to use before the update, I’ve personally been using the app off & on for like 4ish years now so I’m not trying to just hate on it for no reason.
I would love to rate it a 5 out of 5.. but the reason I gave it 3 out of 5 it’s on major critical issue the reason is when uploading to the seller portal with your inventory their is no Quantity to select so you have to go through a hurdle headache process to add quantity numbers each listing after each successful upload... so the annoying process is this 1) “successfully” upload your listing.. 2) you have to go into your seller account 3) search card name in “my inventory stock tab” 4) edit manage listing 5) edit quality from 1 to 4-playset- 5) save 6) exit seller account mode back to normal app (restart this whole process which is super long and laggy) it’s real headache to do this for every card that has more then 1 quantity... I made mistakes putting in wrong numbers and listing that never made it on the site that I thought got scan it. creates unrest issues when you have lot worth of cards **PLEASE add Quantity amount during the upload phase.. the upload page I’m describing is with requirements take photo, enter market set price & normal or foil then upload... it really needs Quantity amount button so it’s one and done process** thank you for reading!
This app requires me to login every time I open it… and if I forget to login then any work I’ve done on adding cards to my buy list (of which there isn’t just a simple buy list to add cards to without choosing a seller)… then those cards get wiped when I close the app again. For a busy person like me who doesn’t have time to spend sixty minutes consecutively adding cards one-by-one, I need a solution that works for my busy lifestyle when I am constantly interrupted. I also hate that if someone else buys the card from the same seller I have to go back in and spend more time trying to buy the same card again. I also am exhausted from trying to select cards all from one seller so I don’t have to pay a.) shipping or b.) the outrageous TCG mark up when they house it. We need to seriously add some quality of life features to the app for busy people who can maybe spend five minutes here and there adding cards to a buy list until they are ready to place a large order. And the last time I used the automated option it was less than intelligent and practically doubled the costs of my order so I had to start all over…. How have executive management not acknowledged this is a critical flaw?
There’s a stunning lack of features. Unlike most card scanner/collection apps you can’t seem to actually make a deck, just have various collections. If you want a big collection of all your cards, you cannot merge your various smaller collections, you just gotta start scanning from scratch. It really sticks out how feature-barren this app is. Furthermore the scanner is… very hit or miss. Mostly miss. I bought a precon mtg deck with 100% cards from the Commander Legends set. I had it on a white background, no glare, and this scanner was convinced that each card was from Khans of Tarkir. I had to manually go in and change the set each time, defeating most of the purpose of having a card scan function in the first place. It’s a shame, cuz honestly iOS card scanner apps are seriously lacking, you either get a good scanner and no features, or a good collection app with no scanner. With very little adjustment, this app could be the best on the appstore. But right now it’s just in the middle of the pack. At least it doesn’t charge you $5 a month to see your collection like some other apps do.
To start off I like that we are now able to scan more than YuGiOh, Magic, and Pokemon. However the utter removal/change of most other features is awful. Scanning cards still sometimes gets something completely different even if you say what the variant is(why are you scanning it as foils when I choose that it is a non foil, prices now no longer change dependent on the condition we set the card as it now only shows a static market price, it is a HASSLE to remove cards from a scan list (why do I have to go a window deep to delete the card instead of being able to set the amount to 0 on the list page. Especially when the app misscanned a card??), the scan function of “is this the card it is” is great but when you show me two identical cards and have the identifying information at the end of the text (like if the cards a surge foil or not) how am I supposed to read it to choose the correct option when I can’t scroll or see any information on the card past what you show. Overall I appreciate what was attempted here but why did you launch this update when you lost the functionality of the most important parts of the app.
Every time they update the app it is one step forward, two steps back. There is no way to set a default. Every time you open the app and/or look at a different list you have to reset your filters (i.e. A-Z, price high-low). A while ago they made the search function within a list better, but made switching between list slow and clunky. Now when you open a list, if you want to see another one you have to close the app and open it again to look at another list. Also, they have taken away the ability to see the price of the card unless you specifically click one card and open it. And even then all you see is the near mint market price even if you card is classified as anything but near mint. Your lists total estimated market price will reflect the varying card condition prices, but you can’t see them. This app has gotten so frustrating over the last few months I am seriously considering switching and using any other app to track my card collection. Just please keep it simple and make it work.
