StickWars is a high-energy 'horde-defense' game that successfully popularized the flick-to-defend mechanic. As an expert in arcade strategy, I find the core loop to be incredibly satisfying—there is a visceral joy in flicking a tiny stickman high into the air and watching them fall. The game perfectly captures the escalating panic as the waves of enemies grow from a few scouts to a massive, screen-filling army.
The strategy lies in managing your resources; deciding when to repair your walls and when to spend your gold on 'Pit' traps or powerful mages is the key to survival. The simple, charcoal-style art is iconic and allows the game to run flawlessly even with dozens of units on screen. While the gameplay is frantic, it’s a masterclass in 'flow,' making it nearly impossible to put down until your castle finally falls. It’s an essential piece of mobile gaming history that still feels fresh and fun today.
Addictive gesture-based combat
Endless waves of escalating difficulty
Deep upgrade system for castle defense
Iconic minimalist stick-art style
Don't just tap—flick! A high, vertical flick is more likely to result in a lethal fall for the enemy. Focus on clearing the enemies closest to your wall first to prevent them from dealing chip damage between your big swipes.
In later rounds, the 'Spikes' and 'Wall Repair' are your best friends. Invest in spikes to automatically damage any enemy that reaches your wall, giving you more time to focus on flicking the flyers and giants.
Giants are too heavy to flick easily. You'll need to use multiple rapid flicks to destabilize them or rely on your mages and catapults for a heavy attack.
Pretty impressive one of the games I played years ago still works after no updates for 7 years. There’s no sound but gameplay is great. Love this game.
I used to enjoy this game on the iPod, and just tried this newer version. The game play doesn’t work as described in the tips so you fail, repeatedly. Example 1: “capture one invader at a time and build up your number of prisoners”. No, the game only lets you put one invader in the prison until it goes away. Example 2: “double tap the tent to train a prisoner to be an archer”. No, the game doesn’t seem to recognize double taps. Example 3: “slam invaders into catapults to destroy them”. While you can slam invaders to the ground this has no effect on machines.
I used to play this game on the family-shared iPod touch. I am now currently redownloading it on my iPhone 13. Time doesn’t change everything.
Always catch myself looking for it and downloading it on my new iPhone, would pay for it
Even after several years this is still one of my favorite games
I reached level 198 and then game goes to about 4% and then there’s nothing any fix??
This game is great you must admit that this game doesn’t have much first glance charm but for people who used to enjoy basic stick games this is a small but fun nostalgia trip
Wow this is a great game... I played all the time. This came out in 2009! And the owner STILL cares about it. He just updated it for 64 but devices!
