SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit 2 is a textbook example of how to do a sequel right. It takes the solid platforming foundation of the first game and expands on it with the 'buddy' mechanic. Playing as Plankton alongside SpongeBob adds a fresh layer of puzzle-solving that keeps the levels from feeling repetitive. The visuals are a massive step up, looking almost like an interactive episode of the cartoon.
What’s most impressive is the level design. It manages to be accessible for kids while offering enough hidden depth and 'perfect run' challenges to satisfy platforming veterans. The boss fights are creative and much more varied than in the predecessor. If you’re a fan of the show or just enjoy high-quality side-scrollers, this is a must-play.
