Spell & Speak is an impressive literacy tool that understands how children actually learn. By combining phonics with voice recognition, it doesn't just teach kids how a word looks, but how it sounds and how to produce that sound themselves. This multi-sensory approach is far more effective than traditional rote memorization.
The UI is exceptionally clean, which is crucial for the age group. There aren't distracting ads or complex menus to get lost in. The feedback loop is immediate and positive; hearing a professional voice say the word correctly after the child attempts it provides a perfect model for imitation. It’s an essential app for any parent looking to supplement their child's early reading education.
200+ fundamental words
Professional voice narration
Engaging animations
Multiple difficulty levels
Voice recognition technology
Choose a category like 'Animals'. An image of a cat appears. Drag the letters C-A-T into the boxes. The app will sound out each letter as it is placed, then say the full word once completed.
After spelling a word, the app prompts the child to say the word aloud. This encourages verbal practice and reinforces the connection between the written and spoken word.
It is ideally suited for children ages 3 to 6 who are beginning their literacy journey.
This is the same voice used in many electronic music tracks in the 80'a and 90's. It would have been nice to add a feature not found in the original, such as speaking words you type into it. Menu options are too small to read clearly.
My brother uses the Speak & Read to communicate with the family. He had a stroke when he was one year old. Is there a way you could create the Speak & Read for the iPad? I know his original one is going to stop working and I don’t want him to be without it. Please consider creating an app. Thank you.
So what I mean by my title is that some of the words are intelligble, but you can understand words like Earth, Angel, Word, Touch, etc. But certain words like To, Pull, Tool, can be very intelligible. Also I see this app as useful for other than the nostgia people wish to have but also for some of the other things at hand.
The original had a "Say It" function that would read out ten words that you had to spell afterwards -- this doesn't seem to work the same. Also the original Spell A used simpler words. This does not seem to differentiate between Spell A-D. Ah well.. it's entertaining to some degree but makes me want to go out an shell on a used-yet-functional version of the real thing.
I feel ripped off it is a small picture of original. Unable to zoom in or see the buttons and it doesn’t work properly. Save your money but the real thing or try another app
I should have paid attention before spending $2 that I cannot get back. Even though it had the same voice from the original l, the are small and not interactive. The app/interaction does not appear to be working as it should. Waste of time…
Very difficult to understand the words. Even "best voice" has an English accent which is very difficult to understand,
This app is a piece of crap. It literally does nothing. It just opens and that's it. Save your money! It's junk!!
