World of Demons is exactly what you’d expect from PlatinumGames: fast, flashy, and incredibly satisfying. The choice to use an Ukiyo-e art style is inspired; it looks like a 19th-century Japanese painting has come to life and decided to start a fight. The animations are fluid, and the impact of every sword swing feels weighty and powerful.

The demon-collection mechanic adds a nice layer of strategy to the hack-and-slash gameplay. Experimenting with different Yokai combinations to see which abilities complement your playstyle is a lot of fun. While the levels can sometimes feel a bit linear, the boss designs more than make up for it. They are massive, intimidating, and require you to use every trick in your arsenal. It’s a premium action experience that feels right at home on mobile, especially with a controller.
