Extra scenes, two-finger support, updates for iOS 12 and new devices
Sensory Sound Box is a brilliant example of how mobile technology can be harnessed for inclusive, accessible play. Designed specifically with cause-and-effect learning in mind, the app is a staple for therapists and parents working with children who have intellectual disabilities, visual impairments, or motor control challenges. The simplicity of 'touch to create, lift to stop' provides immediate, satisfying feedback that is easy to grasp even for those with significant cognitive delays.
The variety of soundscapes is impressive—moving from the calming 'Doric Chant' to the high-energy 'Sore Tooth.' The app’s use of high-contrast visuals on a black background is perfect for children with CVI (Cortical Visual Impairment). What I find most valuable is the pitch modulation; the way the sound shifts from low to high as the finger moves up the screen provides a wonderful auditory-spatial lesson. It’s a focused, high-quality tool that prioritizes the user's sensory experience above all else.
12 unique interactive soundscapes
High-contrast visuals for CVI support
Touch-responsive pitch and tone modulation
9 customizable background colors
Simple, distraction-free interface
Select the 'Doric Chant' soundscape. Move your finger slowly from the bottom of the screen to the top to hear the notes rise in pitch. This helps children associate vertical movement with auditory changes.
Access the settings to change the background color. For children with low vision, a high-contrast combination like Cyan on Black is often the most effective for maintaining focus and engagement.
No, Sensory Sound Box is designed for single-point contact to encourage finger isolation and pointing skills.
I’ve used this for many years on the iPad and on desktops and interactive whiteboards. It is a wonderful introduction to cause effect for my students with multiple disabilities, and it works well with any access mode. It’s always been a favorite for my students from prek to high school. They all love it!
I've never been able to get his attention, he just shuts my iPhone off but he actually touches the screen with this app, this was what I was looking for! I'm gearing up to get him a touch to talk app on an iPad and this gives me a great starting point! My son has sever delays but is very smart and can learn even better with the right materials, thank you for making this app!
I purchased this after purchasing Cause and Effect Sensory Light Box. Through touch control one can manipulate pitch, pan, and the visual. Nice mix of sounds from nature to synthesized. I'm surprised that no siren is included. I'd love to be able to offer my students more kid centered sounds. I believe that the population this was intended for needs more variation in visual contrast. For example, I hear rain but seeing the rain is difficult. It would be nice if the sound blip could be eliminated when each effect loads. It would also be nice if the icons of the index of effects could be bigger so one could read the names and not have to have such fine motor control. The icon used to stop one effect and return to the index is really small. Perhaps that is on purpose but again one needs to have fine motor control. This doesn't encourage any development of choice. Maybe you could offer two modes in the future. One for people who need hand over hand assistance and another mode for individuals who are working on makeing choices. I can see OT/PTs and special education teachers loving this! Thanks.
This is one of the best apps I can't say enough about it I've already recommended it to quite a few of my friends This app is good for somebody who is has some sensory issues This app has helped me when I've been overstimulated by too much sensory stuff going on
