What's new in 1.0.5
• Signature skills can now be used once per turn. Uses per fight are unchanged. If you have uses left after using one, its button says "Next turn" until your next turn.
• Shadeoil now works as described: it negates every enemy attack during the next enemy turn, then wears off. Before, its 9 dodges could carry over into later turns.
• While Shadeoil is active, the combat info panel shows "Attacks negated this turn".
• HP bars now drop as each damage number appears, instead of all at once before the numbers. This applies to you and to enemies.
• The App Store now lists all four game languages: English, Korean, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
SALT PILGRIM is a spectacular indie masterpiece that breathes fresh life into the deckbuilding roguelike genre. The game's minimalist 1-bit art style and haunting acoustic soundtrack immediately immerse you in the sun-bleached, unforgiving salt desert of Tuzkum. The core thematic conceit—that water acts as your currency, your health, and your moral standing—creates constant, meaningful tension throughout every run.
Combat feels deeply strategic and satisfying. Building a deck that seamlessly balances water conservation with aggressive offensive synergies is a joy, and the addition of escalating difficulty tiers like Grueling and Brutal ensures long-term replayability for veteran strategy gamers. Paired with a reactive world where eight factions remember your past decisions, SALT PILGRIM is an absolute must-play on mobile.
Distinctive 1-bit monochrome post-apocalyptic visual presentation
Strategic deckbuilding card combat system
Living world with 8 dynamic factions that remember player actions
20 unique pilgrimage floors through desert ruins and ship graveyards
Multiple difficulty levels including Grueling and Brutal modes
Water-based economy serving as currency, health, and law
Begin your journey at your home village and descend down the stairs to start your 20-floor pilgrimage. Choose your route carefully between floors, balancing risk against essential water reserves.
Draft cards that synergize around stance shifts, defense, and water conservation. Once you complete your first pilgrimage, unlock 'Grueling' and 'Brutal' difficulty settings where single discard rules test your deck construction.
Engage enemies in turn-based card battles where positioning and hand management determine damage output. Interactions with eight distinct factions alter regional alliances, trader pricing, and enemy spawns as factions remember your past deeds.
Manage water strictly as both life meter and purchasing currency across ruins, sunken canals, and salt dunes. Reach the holy city on floor 20 to secure your spot on global leaderboard rankings.
SALT PILGRIM combines tactical card deckbuilding with an atmospheric 1-bit open-world roguelike structure and persistent faction relations that react to player choices.
Yes, completing your first pilgrimage unlocks 'Grueling' difficulty, and beating that unlocks 'Brutal' difficulty, each featuring custom leaderboards and stricter discard limits.
Note: Some of the other reviewers are complaining that the game is unplayable on certain iOS versions, as soon as this became an issue the dev immediately put in for a fix with Apple. Now onto the review: This game is so cool. I love the aesthetics, story, music, and gameplay loop. I was growing weary of deck builders but this is such a sweet game it brought me back into the fold. My only complaint is it’s a bit easy when you get a solid deck going, but I emailed the dev and he announced that they are adding more content and custom difficulty stuff soon! Safe travels salt pilgrim.
Game doesn’t work. Crashes before loading anything. Will change rating after a fix.
