Runes of Ardun brings the strategy of Mini Shogi to life with a unique mystical theme. Players control six ancient runes—Owl, Lion, Bunny, Hedgehog, Elephant, and Rhino—each with movement abilities inscribed directly on the piece. The objective is to outwit your opponent on a 5x5 grid and capture their Lion. Featuring a sophisticated multithreaded AI engine and stunning visuals, the game offers a challenging experience for strategy enthusiasts. With support for multiple languages and cross-device play, it’s a modern tribute to a classic board game.

Runes of Ardun is a fascinating take on Mini Shogi, wrapped in a beautiful animal-spirit theme. By transforming the traditional pieces into runes representing animals like the Lion, Elephant, and Rhino, the game becomes much more approachable for newcomers while maintaining the deep strategic roots of Shogi. The 5x5 board makes for quick, intense matches that are perfect for mobile play. I was particularly impressed by the AI—it’s powered by a multithreaded engine that actually exploits your weaknesses, making it a genuine challenge even on single-player modes.

The aesthetic is clean and immersive, with the movement rules for each piece inscribed directly onto the runes, which removes the learning curve of memorizing moves. It’s a duel of wits where the goal is simple—capture the Lion—but the path there is anything but. Whether you are a board game veteran or just looking for a clever strategy game, the polish and depth here make it a standout title. The inclusion of cross-platform support for Mac and Vision Pro is a great bonus for those in the Apple ecosystem.

The more you use the suggestion, the slower it gets until it crashes the app and then you lose your game. I give up. Deleted it. It was almost a good idea.
