Ragnagard is one of the more 'experimental' fighters from the NeoGeo era, notable for its use of pre-rendered 3D sprites (similar to Donkey Kong Country) rather than traditional hand-drawn pixel art. It gives the game a very distinct, slightly eerie look that sets it apart. The gameplay focuses on deities and mythical beasts, which makes for some flashy specials and aerial combat.
While the balancing is a bit lopsided, the ACA version makes it playable for a modern audience. The difficulty can be dialed down, and the screen settings allow you to recreate that old CRT scanline look. It's a curiosity for fighting game historians more than a rival to Street Fighter, but it's worth a look for the unique art style and the chance to play as a thunder god.

The core of Ragnagard is the Aerial Battle System. Use your launcher moves to take the fight into the sky, where you can chain attacks that are impossible to execute on the ground.
Collect orbs and land attacks to fill your Element Gauge. Once full, you can perform Miracle Arts which can turn the tide of a battle instantly.
The roster includes figures inspired by Japanese, Norse, and other world mythologies, such as Susanoo and Beowulf.
