Bug fixes and stability improvements.
Polypine is a breath of fresh air for fans of 'cozy' games and nature simulators. It successfully distills the complexity of ecosystem management into a low-poly, relaxing experience. The joy of the game comes from watching the natural progression—planting a few shrubs and eventually seeing a full-blown forest with bears and deer roaming around. It’s highly meditative, supported by a minimalist art style that makes even a dry island look beautiful.
The mechanics are deeper than they initially appear. You have to think about the food chain and the specific needs of each species. If you over-plant one type of tree, you might accidentally starve out a certain animal population. It’s a delicate balancing act that never feels stressful because of the lack of fail states. It’s a game about observation and gentle nudging, making it a perfect title for winding down after a busy day.
Beautiful minimalist low-poly graphics
Deep, realistic ecosystem simulation
Calming ambient soundscapes
Multiple island biomes to master
Your primary resource is 'Sunlight' and 'Water.' Different plants have different requirements. Place trees near water sources to help them grow faster, and use the 'Seed Spread' mechanic to let your forest expand naturally over time.
The gameplay focuses on observation. If you have too many herbivores, they will eat all your plants. You must introduce predators or change the flora to maintain a sustainable cycle of life.
The forest is resilient, but if you stop providing water and sunlight, the plants will wither and the animals will leave. It requires gentle management.
This game is super fun! I like the art, levels, and the difficulty. Id love if there were chapters that have their own challenges with different parts of the ecosystem. Like for example, a chapter for insects: focusing on the ground and dirt, and you can plant trees but you only see the roots and the base & you can put bugs and maybe small animals that eat bugs? Id also love to see more animals! The current ones are awesome, I just would love to see some themed animals! Like extinct ones (maybe added on to the levels but they go back in time? Like how the current levels are. Starting with easy animals and just trees and squirrels, then adding more animals, and then further levels can bring extinct animals or animals from different eras. And, for the freeplay, you get to choose which era you want to be in? Either way, I cant wait for future updates and to see how this game grows!
I’ve played video games my whole life, some would call me… a gamer. But I’m also in college for zoology. Animals are my passion, video games are my hobby, but the two never combine often enough, and few of them do it as well as this game does. Well worth the $6.99, the free intro worlds were enough to have me hooked, and I hardly ever buy any mobile games/pay for add-ons. Please update it with more levels, challenges, animals, plants, biomes. Maybe try things like diseases, genetic diversity, invasive species/clashing species. Adding some more randomized events that can’t be controlled or triggered, and instead you need to learn how to adapt and overcome them. Different game modes, challenges, and achievements would be fantastic too. While free updates would be great since we already pay $6.99 for the full game, if new things were to be added as DLCs or similar, I would personally be willing to buy them, as long as they don’t cost as much or more than the base game. I’d really love to see this go bigger places, as unfortunately I’ve already beat the game in 3 days (and I took my time!). I am a desperate animal enthusiast who needs this more than therapy 🙏🙏🙏 idk where I need to donate or crowd fund but please give this game future updates!
PolyPine was a ton of fun. I wish there were more levels. I love the art style and the mechanics. Some issues I noticed were that some areas will become overpopulated with prey animals and others will have all the predators. Like l, I’ll have a small area with a ton of squirrels in it, and another area with all the foxes. Maybe giving animals a lifespan an explaining better how to make them span in certain areas would fit that. That’s a small issue though. Sometimes the game will crash when you have too much stuff in the simulation. Maybe there should be more limits on how many animals can be in a simulation by the size of the forest and limits on how big the forest can be. I would also love to see more levels in different regions and maybe have free play modes for different regions. Like id love to make a rainforest or a swamp with Cypress trees and Spanish moss, alligators. A desert would be fun. I think humming birds and otters would be a great addition to the base game.
Cons: It needs improvements. It gets slow once you really grow your forest and crashes frequently. It doesn’t allow you to create a HUGE forest. Once you unlock pretty much everything it’s boring and repetive. Different ecosystems with different animals would be stellar. Along with obviously fixing the bugs and glitches. Also, very short campaign. It’s more like a tutorial. Pros: relaxing. Fun. Calming. Slightly challenging at first. Great concept. I really hope they add some things in here and fix the bugs. I play at night to relax.
I played the first level and then paid to unlock the full game. I enjoyed the game greatly while I was playing it but I accomplished all the levels in roughly 10 minutes. I just don’t think it was worth the cost of the game. I would like to see two additions to this game. 1st is more levels with more difficulty. 2nd, tap on a tree and it tells me like what kind of tree it is, how tall it is, etc. that would make the sandbox more fun for me. Also I think that I accumulated the currency too easily actually. TLDR; I very much enjoyed the game while playing but got bored quickly after finishing all the levels.
I love this game! It’s so relaxing and enjoyable, and I thought I understood some basics about ecosystems but this really helped me much better understand things. I hope that they add more levels at some point! And I really appreciate that the first few levels were free and the next were paid- no ads, just free yet meaningful gameplay and the not pushy offer to outright pay for more levels instead of watching endless ads. Good job all around!
This game teaches ecology in a very entertaining and low key way. The balance of plants and animals, how they interplay and develop an ecosystem is outstanding. I recommend it to anyone - child or adult - who loves the natural world and wants to understand it better. But there’s much more. This is an incredible work of the heart and is genuinely beautiful. Very well done. There are few apps that seem to care about aethestic - visual and audible. This one revels in that. Bravo.
I just enjoy playing the game, it’s just plain great. I can tell effort was put into it and i was not bothered in the least when the “pay 6.99 to unlock all features” thing came up. I think the amount given before payment is pretty satisfactory but i like the game so much i decided to buy it. I don’t know if the game will be expanded upon but i enjoy it now and i would enjoy whatever is to come.
