Phantom Rose 2 Sapphire is a revelation for the card game genre. By removing the randomness of the draw, it transforms into a pure strategy game that feels more like a tactical RPG than a traditional CCG. It is incredibly refreshing to lose a battle and know exactly *why* I lost—because I mismanaged my cooldowns—rather than blaming bad luck.
The art is hauntingly beautiful, and the atmosphere is melancholic and immersive. The addition of the Mage class adds a ton of replayability, as it plays entirely differently from the first game's mechanics. If you're tired of the RNG in games like Slay the Spire, this is the deep, thoughtful alternative you've been looking for. It's a masterwork of indie game design.
No random card draws: gameplay based entirely on cooldowns.
Multiple playable classes with distinct card sets.
Beautiful anime-inspired art and atmospheric story.
Adjustable difficulty levels for all skill types.
Dozens of unique relics to find and equip.
The core of the game is timing. Don't use your most powerful shield card too early; if the enemy isn't attacking for another two turns, you'll be left defenseless when you actually need it. Always look for cards that 'Reduce Cooldown' to keep your high-impact abilities in rotation.
Choosing between the Blade and Mage classes drastically changes your playstyle. The Blade focuses on physical combos and parries, while the Mage manages a separate Mana pool. During exploration, prioritize 'Rose' rooms to gain permanent upgrades to your maximum HP.
No, Sapphire features a self-contained story that's welcoming to new players.
This game is above all amazing, being one of the few defining definitions of what a good sequel should be. Everything feels like a direct upgrade from the original. Introducing a new story with Aria and Sylphy traversing the phantom ridden school. Fixing a ton of small issues with the first game and making everything work well. This being a rougelike game makes you go through the game over again, but each time you play it, it always has something new. I feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of this game, and there is much more content left for me to discover. The introduction of the “talk” feature in some encounters offers more insight to the lore and story of these characters and their place within the game. The “Mage” challenge mode offers a unique and interesting way to play the game. Introducing a whole new set of cards that are playable that completely change how you play the game, feeling like an identity of its own. All in all, I would heavily recommend the Phantom Rose series to anyone looking for a fun and engaging game. With the installment on mobile, I can proudly say that the Phantom Rose series is one of the best mobile games you could get. Thank you for creating this Makaroll, you have truly created an amazing series of games. And I look forward to what you plan next!
I was so excited when I first saw this while looking in the App Store and knew I had to play it. I played the first which was great and this one holds that sentiment too, the gameplay in both are similar while having some very nice additions such as new cards and new events. The story is still very interesting and keeps me hooked and if you’re reading this go check it out yourself! I’m also glad that now you can interact with the npcs more in this one. I hope there’s more to come as I literally jumped out of my seat when I saw this new installment, really great game!
I played the first game and enjoyed it for quite a while, so I was real excited to play this. From what I played so far, there are plenty of new cards and enemies to play with. And I would really like to keep playing. However, the way they changed ad popups to appear after each floor boss softlocked my game because for some reason the X button on the ads simply does not function. Even after closing and reopening the game, the ad simply plays again and traps me. I really hope this isn’t intentional. If it isn’t, I hope a fix comes real soon. If this is a ploy to incentivize spending $5, it would be incredibly scummy and disappointing. Again, I liked the previous game, and I really wanna like this one too.
I loved the first phantom rose game and am starting to fall for this one as well. The gameplay is great, the gameplay loop is even better. Setting up strategies is satisfying and rewarding. It is my favorite example of a card rouge like of all time. This should be on any rougelike fans phone and should be on any gamers phone as well. The only thing I will say is that some game modes being behind the sapphire pack is weird but I understand the creator needs to get their bag. Love the game and am very excited to play to completion.
i love rogue likes and i love card games so its pretty fun there are ads tho, however it doesnt feel over bearing. Tutorial is also really good, i feel like a lot of mobile games throw too much into tutorials and they are too much. another thing i like is that the ui is very good too many games have unbearable ui’s. overall really good.
The gameplay overall is very good. One thing I love about the series is that their menu is very crisp and clean. The story is much clearer than Scarlet and has more cutscenes. Music is solid and the art is fantastic (I love this series for its art). But most of this experience is ruined when they changed the ad scheme. Now you have intrusive banner ads and pop up ads. The banner ads clash with the color theme of the game, making them a really bad eyesore. Please go back to using reward ads. It really makes the experience more bearable.
Really love part 1 so i downloaded part 2 and i haven’t really played the game much yet but the UI already seems to be not as smooth as part 1, espeacially on the menu where you choose between modes. It doesn’t really affect the gameplay but still makes the overall experience quite uncomfortable espeacially on a card game like this
PR2 has a longer story and more art compared to PR1, and the new game mode is welcomed. These changes would’ve been great as an update to PR1, but for a new entry in the series, it feels bland and lacking. The constant ads really drag down the gameplay experience. On top of that, the enemy attack logic hasn’t been updated. For example, they’re still putting “cancel next card” in the fourth spot.
