First of all. Microtransactions? Where? They’re not necessary OR required. The old version of the game was a lot more “pay to play” because this version has Free rewards if you watch the ads! And what is a few ads when you get extra stuff without paying a penny?! Used to be the only way to get anywhere in the game was the grind and pay the mini kits to get extra stuff- now if you’re patient and watch the ads you get the rewards daily!! The game does get quite grindy, which I understand isn’t for everyone. But it makes it easy to pop open, slay some monsters and villains and reap the rewards. The story feels a little slow because of this, sure- however the same can be said for many bigger RPG’s also where grinding is a core mechanic. It’s also in what class combination/abilities you choose. For everyone getting really mad, “I’m dying so much in the beginning!” You need a healer… Class/Ability/Character combinations can make a huge difference. It’s a deeper game than that and it’s a TON of fun. The expansions are really cool, Fist of +1 Fury is my favorite.
Here’s how to be an evil corporate money hungry joy destroying game developer, in three easy steps: 1: Find a great indie game made with love and skill that has a devoted fanbase for their clever, well-balanced, and genuinely innovative gameplay devoid of micro transactions which respects the player at every level. Then buy them out with a small portion of your cruelty-infused corporate raid stash of money. 2: Retool the game to be “free” and a micro transaction nightmare, destroying game balance, any sense of fun or reward in playing the game, and any shred of respect for the player. Rake in the cash in the transition period where the game’s good reputation gradually gets replaced by hate reviews, tanking the game’s reputation so much it gets booted off the App Store. Good job so far, you’ve already pocketed ridiculously amounts of cash just by being ruthless, but wait, there’s more! 3: invent a new game company, whose only product is this zombie of a game, and put it up on the App Store again, raking in yet more cash from the game’s lasting good reputation from the before times. If and when it gets booted off the App Store again once players get wise, rinse, repeat, and make more of that sweet sweet con man money. Congratulations! You are now rich, although we recommend a vomitus bucket next to your bathroom mirror for those moments when what you have left of a soul peeks through your grimace of success and the heaving starts.
This is a fun little time waster. The game mechanics are solid for the most part. The only place it falls apart is at the end. You don’t get enough xp to level-up, and with your higher levels (34+), it’s difficult to grind for more (enemies give less xp as your level increases). The story line and references are funny. Crafting adds a bit of fun, but enchanting equipment seems to be broke (I was never able to get it to work, anyway). It’s a bummer that you’re not allowed to have more than one of any player or class, but it works fine (mage and monk are a great combo). You can buy or make gear to overcome nearly any weakness in your team.
Was having a blast until the nearby cave was just a bunch of traps you can’t dodge, enemies that are too high level, and running away yet still dying every. Single. Time. It says level 7, why is a level 15 mimic one shotting my party????? No more gold either so you can’t revive any member or travel anywhere. Game is just a huge money grab that makes it needlessly hard as you “progress” forcing you to buy items, gold, and gems. Don’t even get me started on the god awful room customization. Why should the playing room effect the stats of the party? Again, money grab. If you want to get past the level 10 quests of this game you NEED to buy gear, gems, and, for some reason, a fancy couch that boosts your damage (around 50 dollars give or take, for just one character of five!!!). I’m so sad this game just ended being an impossible money grab because it had so much potential. Maybe include ways to detect traps before they one shot the entire party?? Or maybe just not include an insanely high level enemy in a level 7 dungeon??? I am level 12 now with 4 characters and it is still impossible to kill the boss of a level 7 dungeon…
I don’t usually write reviews, but for this game I just felt like I had to. I started out a few days ago and have been playing it like crazy. I love dnd and I love the style of this game, the gameplay, the humor, it’s all good and had been for hours now. My biggest issue though, is the difficulty spike once you hit level 10 is INSANE. On previous levels, the fights always felt fair and just fun. It was all about how you played and what gear you’ve gone for and I really enjoyed it, but now for a level 10 I am fighting enemies that will do most of heath bar in no more than 3 hits (usually less from how often they crit) while if I focus on one monster and hit them with all 4 of my parties best moves, their health won’t even be a quarter of the way through. And to make matters worse, it was about this time that I started to get BOMBARDED with deals for pay to win packages. In short, the game was great on lower levels, but once you hit about level 10, it feels pay to win. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone in the state it’s in now.
Save your time and money and skip this one, it isn’t what it used to be. purchased this game years ago when the game wasn’t free. The game was fun and I spent time unlocking everything. I’d put the game away for a while and then come back to it. Decided I’d come back and play it again after a long while and downloaded this. They did away with the version I paid for and released this monetized monstrosity. It is exactly the same as the version I paid for except now everything is monetized. In order to unlock everything I need diamonds which are scarce. If you want to unlock all the expansions and characters would take a good deal of daily playing and that’s not counting all the other options that you’d want to unlock. To completely unlock this game as I had it when I bought the paid version would cost me more than a triple A title on a console. Absolutely ridiculous.
Edit: anyone who likes this game I know a kinda similar game buts a dungeon crawler called doom depths from what I remember little to pay to win but it’s a hard game. As much as I love this game it has so much transactions to the point where it’s pay to win. I am pretty far in the game around level 18 and to even earn 5k I have to grind while everything is 15k+ for good gear. Not just that but the monsters for the main quest are supposed to be level 15 but they almost 1 shot every one of my character and they have 2-3K hp. This game is super good and I enjoyed it but because of how much the progress slowed down I just can’t even play it and it’s not fun to grind the same low level enemy because the things that are supposed to be my level almost 2 shot me.
Recently I managed to download an older release of the game before they added the gems feature, and let me tell you, it is wonders better. In the older version you recieve about 2X the amount of gold and xp, and just about everything is 75% cheaper. They ruined the balance of this game to get players to purchase gold and gems but even those prices are way over the top. In the old version all the DLC could be bought with gold and it was just so much better. I love this game, it is really amazing but do not play on this version; go lookup how to download the older version of the game. This current version makes it so you almost can’t enjoy most of the things like buying shop items, crafting, or playing longer than 1 squad wipe because they knocked gold balance so far off. 1/5 stars for a great game that was ruined. Unplayable.
