King or Fail is a surprisingly addictive hybrid that successfully mashes up resource management, base building, and light hack-and-slash combat. At its core, the game is about building your kingdom from the ground up, starting with simple tasks like chopping wood and mining stone to fund your expansion. What keeps it fresh is the constant shift between the macro-management of your village and the micro-action of taking your army into battle to conquer neighboring lands.

The combat is simple enough for casual play but requires a bit of tactical thought as you scale your forces. Watching your small settlement grow into a sprawling fortified castle provides a genuine sense of progression. While the ad frequency can be a bit high—typical for this genre—the gameplay loop is tight enough to keep you coming back for 'just one more' upgrade. It's a perfect 'coffee break' game for those who enjoy seeing numbers go up and territory get captured.

Enjoyable, easy to pass time

I downloaded this game after playing the playable ad multiple times on a different game. The ad was slightly different as I have yet to build a sword or shield or have graphics that indicate inside a building but that’s the only difference. I enjoy this game as a way to kill time and it’s a good game to wind down the end of a long day. I also appreciate that you do not need to spend money to earn extra coins or resources. Yes, to earn those you do have to watch ads but the ads only last 20-45 seconds and the rewards have been worth it. There are pop up ads that happen randomly, but they only last about 30 seconds and usually you can skip them after about 10 seconds so it’s not bad. I don’t know how the decision is made for which ads to show but if I had some suggestions it would be to change them up more often, make sure the ads are not for apps that have really bad ratings/scams, and maybe more “playable” ads to make watching them more appealing. The game itself is good, I do wish you earned coins/village operated while you weren’t playing but that’s really my only game related complaint.

i genuinely love playing this game while winding down after a long day, its a simple concept that can be quickened by ads. the only problem i've run into after playing for a couple months is that if you upgrade or evolve too quickly the game will NOT catch up. i've been soft locked at level 37 for 3 weeks now, with no end in sight. i accidentally evolved a few locations too fast by watching ads and can't even buy the materials i need in the resource exchange. this simple bug has made my favorite game completely obsolete because the main goal is to level up and grow your community. hopefully this gets fixed so i can give it a 5-star review but until then i'll be looking for other games to play.

It’s hard to make enough money… I’ve watched tons of ads. But either way, the WORST part is the castles. You have to win battles to level up and as part of your tasks. Sometimes the higher enemies are easy to beat and most of the time they aren’t. You can level yourself up like crazy but it doesn’t serve enough purpose. Your army though? It can only rise based on your level in the game and you have to watch video after video and video for ads to use the cannon. It’s insane. If I try and watch ads while doing other things it will take HOURS to watch enough. The tickets are overpriced for skipping ads. You can’t purchase just the stupid cannon. So here I am again trying to watch ads to even advance in any way. It makes me leave the games for days until I’m sitting watching tv or something else because it’s impossible. Nothing matches up to defeat anything. The idle collecting and stuff… yeah, it’s fine. But don’t plan on going anywhere without hours and hours of stupid ads.

BIG BLUE ARROW IS INFURIATING

I haven’t read any other reviews so I don’t know how other people feel about the arrow… But I have unlocked a few areas by now, and I expected it to go away like most games that have a small helping hand a first. But it’s still there, and very distracting when trying to collect more resources to do the task it’s pointing to! Please at least have an option in the menu to turn it off because it’s taking a lot away from the game in my experience, hence the 3 stars. (Yeah, annoying enough for 3 stars..) I’m probably being very picky, but I feel like the white square on tasks is plenty to know where I need to go, and I was caught off guard when the arrow didn’t go away after the third area I unlocked, and it still continues to point at everything even though I know what I’m doing. It’s a very neat game and it’s fun to progress in, everything else about it is completely fine besides the haunting arrow!

2nd.. they’re playing this game for a while as you can tell they have not updated and no one is monitoring the reviews for that reason it gets one star 1st.. Played this game on my tablet and my phone nice game…last update was before Christmas…… It is now April 2024. my guys are still running around with the Christmas hats on. And for that reason, I’m giving it a very low rating. reached out to customer service a few times no reply as of today. Updated review…. Again this is a great game, they have done a few updates since my last review…… the enemy in the castles have been undated now they are extremely hard to kill if you can kill them at all they did not update your cannon or troops….. example it took me almost 200 tickets to kill a level 10 million power enemy, troop….. so you can imagine what it’s gonna take to kill a 12 or 16 million powered enemy troop something that probably should be looked at by the dev team

Update: I read in another review that one has to watch so many ads to advance on war and I didn’t believe it, you have to. You have to watch several adds, even if you paid for no adds, you have to watch for so many adds because the castles you fights are super advanced. The “enemy” troops level is in the thousands and my max allowed upgrade for my troops is in the hundreds and I don’t get to upgrade them as I wish. It’s controlled so that the enemy troops are always despairingly higher than yours. 🙄😑 My old review: The game is a lot better, I can tell the last update made a difference for the better. But, can we please get another farmer for the area with the pumpkins? And can we get some expansions? Other areas? And please no more apple trees!! There are too many apple trees!! Otherwise the game is great. Thank you!

Way Too Many Ads

Developers please make it so that player can take some resources like coins from the world and use them in the castle battles so player does not have to watch 40 ads just to take the castle. So frustrating! This game has an incredibly tremendous number of ads you have to sit too long through. It stops you every couple minutes and makes you watch very long ads. They need to either shorten the ads to a couple of seconds or reduce the number of ads you have to sit through. I’d rather pay money for objects to play parts of the game than watch all these ads. Also, sound cuts out too often. Hope they update the game to fix these issues because otherwise it is a good game. Probably not going to play it much longer because of the ads.

It’s been a while since I last played but since the new update thing the game doesn’t play like it use too. This game is completely different and has way to many adds when the previous version I played before was nothing like this new game play. I lost years of game play of the older game version back in 2022, and now I’m just coming back to the game to have lost everything I’ve done in the past to a new completely different type of game with hella adds. I really liked the older version that didn’t have adds. You had the choice to watch the adds to gain resources of all items you needed but you didn’t have to at all if you chose to just play just the game. So this new game I’ll give it a try but it will still not replace how upset I am of losing everything from previous game play to this heavily forced adds.
