We’ve updated the app to fix some crashes and make features load faster.
Kalimba Connect is a niche but wonderfully executed app that turns your phone into a musical instrument. The physics of the 'tines' are spot on, and the sound quality is crisp and authentic. What I love most is the 'falling notes' mode, which essentially turns learning the kalimba into a rhythm game like Guitar Hero.
It’s a fantastic tool for both seasoned musicians who want to practice on the go and beginners who find the physical instrument intimidating. The song library is surprisingly deep, covering everything from classical to pop. Even if you just use it to noodle around and create your own melodies, the interface is clean and responsive enough to be genuinely expressive.
Realistic 17 & 21 key simulation
Over 1,000 songs to learn
High-quality studio audio samples
Recording and playback features
Start with 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' in the Easy category. Follow the falling tiles and focus on using two thumbs to maintain a steady rhythm.
Tap the red record button to save your freestyle sessions. You can then play them back or export them to share your musical creations with friends.
The app is primarily designed for touch-screen use and does not currently support external MIDI controllers.
I tend to memorize songs by sections and then by piecing those sections together, but this is hard to do when I have to replay the entire song over and over to get to the one section I’m at. If I could play the section, rewind to just before the section starts, play the section again and repeat until I am ready to move to the next section, that would be extremely helpful.
The music is the same that you’ll find tabs for Kalimba with much being Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese music, but pretty. The problem I have with the app is that the timing is poor in dropping the notes. Each measure is fine, but the count at the end coming into the next measure is not right. Maybe this is an Asian thing but western music is timed carefully in each measure. So playing the music the way it ought to sound is off. Either I play the notes to hurry up and wait or if I slow it down there is a lag and then the background music is off. It is strange. If you could fix this then it would be nicer. I do like the app though and if I find it was operator error (my mistake in using the app) then I will come back to change my review. I have only been using it an hour, but I do play the Kalimba
I love this app but i would like for there be a choice to have both numbers and letters like a real kalimba but i still love it because I get to learn and play new songs and I had this for a long time already I got this because I wanted to buy a Kalimba and so this app really made me want one and now I have one and I get to learn how to play new song on my Kalimba from this app! Thank you so much!😁
I can figure the songs out on my own Kalimba if I slow it down enough and gradually increase the speed. However, I really wished that the recognition feature worked because that would make it a lot easier and I might actually pay for the premium version
This is a great app. I love how there is a global leaderboard. The only issue I really have with this app is there is no way to delete an account. For my own reasons, I would like the option to delete some of my accounts and have them taken off the global leaderboard. Please add the feature to be able to delete accounts.
So I tried to turn on the irl kalimba recognition thing, and it didn’t work. I went into the settings since the app never even asked for mic perms. Don’t you need to enable mic perms to use the recognition?! Somebody please fix this, I was really excited when I found this app because of the recognition stuff.
I was super excited to find an app that has so many songs I’m an American otaku so I was happy I knew quite a few songs on this app. But I can’t get the recognition to work at all I uninstalled and reinstalled it twice and nothing it shows it’s picking up sound but I can’t play on my own Kalimba. Do I have to pay for the full version to use it?
I love this app and don’t get me wrong there are a lot of songs but not a lot of songs that I’m interested in learning. I would like more English songs, that is really the only issue I have. Other than that I love this app and it has taught me a lot
