Initial Drift is a love letter to the 'low-poly' aesthetic and the arcade racing games of the late 90s. It focuses on the pure mechanics of mountain pass drifting, offering a 'easy to play, hard to master' experience. The variety is surprisingly good for an indie title, with 24 cars to unlock and 9 different routes that come in 72 variations. The sense of progression is handled well through a leveling system that rewards you for every drift and race completed.
The physics are strictly arcade-style—don't expect a simulation here—but they feel consistent once you get the hang of the two different driving styles. The addition of global high scores adds a competitive edge, pushing you to master every corner to shave seconds off your time. While the visuals are simple, the performance is smooth (supporting 60fps), and the snappiness of the controls makes it a great 'pick-up-and-play' racer for drifting enthusiasts.
Stylish low-poly 3D graphics
72 track variations across 3 worlds
Drifting and non-drifting physics
Global highscore competition
Each track has three medal tiers. To get Gold, you must maintain a high average speed. In the 'Drifting' style, focus on keeping your angle consistent to avoid losing momentum when exiting corners.
Accumulate experience through the leveling system to unlock new cars. Higher-tier cars have better acceleration and higher drift limits, which are essential for the more complex routes in the later worlds.
Yes, you can choose from 3 different camera types to find the best angle for your driving style.
We need an handbrake feature, so we can flick the cars around corners easier, and more controlably. The cars are way too heavy, and slow. The steering is only just bearable, and the courses are repetitive. If you add a hand brake mechanic, lighter physics, increased steering responsiveness, different and more unique courses, and more car customization and modifications. Other than that this game is alright, just.
Overall a good game with great potential, just lacking essential features. Turning speed needs to be either adjustable, or sped up. We need a handbrake, and maybe some car customization? Great potential, just not as good as it should be.
Overall the game is really fun aside from the physics when you accidentally tap a wall and get slingshotted around. My only real issue is that I only have one map I’m able to play on even in free mode, as opposed to the 9 that my friend had when he downloaded it. Any known fixes?
i see multiple reviews talking about the turning feeling like they are glued to the ground and i dont think they understand that they need to drift. it is a very good game with good gameplay, could just use more free cars, and multiplayer.
This game is really exciting and has really good mechanics, I only wished there was more maps, possibly multiplayer, vehicle customization, and more vehicles that don’t cost money, other than that I enjoy the game very much
A few errors do marr the fun of the game, the steering doesn't work and the cars feel glued. But there are some good parts, like the courses, the passes do look like they’d be insanely fun to drive, if the steering was better. So for now, I’ll give it two stars, but it certainly has potential, especially as an iPhone game.
This game and Drifto are the best car games I’ve played on mobile. I love the physics of this game it’s great.
I love the box art of the cars and how it looks. One thing it needs is in side of the cars pov and you need to not make the turning so stiff but love it so far
