High Sea Saga DX is the definitive, ad-free version of Kairosoft's classic pirate simulation, and it is a joy to play. For anyone who hasn't experienced a Kairosoft game, they are the masters of 'addictive management,' and this pirate adventure is one of their best. You aren't just sailing; you're building a crew of 'savvy seadogs,' customizing your vessel, and island-hopping in search of legendary riches. The pixel art is charming as ever, and the sense of progression as you expand your ship and take on rival pirates is incredibly rewarding.
This 'DX' version is a significant upgrade, removing the microtransactions and energy systems of the original free version, allowing you to play at your own pace without interruptions. The depth of the simulation—from managing crew fatigue to choosing the right furniture for your ship's interior—is what keeps you hooked. It’s a swashbuckling saga that perfectly captures that 'just five more minutes' feeling. If you love strategy, building, or just a good pirate story, this is worth every penny of its premium price.

As always, Kairosoft put out a great title with High Sea Saga. The one thing I hate though is the “stamina” system. For a $7 game, I shouldn’t have to wait for stamina to refresh, even if the refresh is pretty quick. My two favorite things about Kairosoft games are that 1) it’s almost impossible to lose and 2) you can play them for hours on end without micro-transactions or adds. Still giving 5 stars though, because Kairosoft is an absolute gem. I buy all of their games without hesitation, and this game is fun.
Kairosoft makes many fun games, including high sea saga of which I have been a fan of before. The main problem with this game is that it is easily broken. The original game was built with the idea of in app purchases, because of this there are incredibly high level jumps, starvation of in app currency, and mechanics that make no sense without said in app purchases (egg dyeing, stamina, daily rewards). This means the player will still meet the obstacles made to force the player into either go though the drudgery of grinding, or pay money, without the option of paying money. There is also not much to explore in the game as compared to other Kairosoft titles, but that is a theme spanning most of their new games. Ultimately a fun game, but terribly flawed.
Game is really fun, lots of variety. But, as a long time Kairosoft player going on well over a decade this game stands out in the length of its primary campaign. The only others with this much replayability are game dev story and dungeon village 2. Really an excellent purchase!
This game is the one big massive grind. You can tell it was designed with in app purchases in mind. Because of that you’ll run into lots of arbitrary hurdles. Running out of stamina, needing coins, not being able to use or upgrade unit unless you reach a certain fleet level, and on and on and on. The game isn’t long-lasting enough to warrant the hours and hours of grinding needed. To get to the final island, you’ll have to have played for hundreds of hours, which if anything shows the flaws of games based around in app purchases. Now that the in app purchases are gone, you’re left with cool down times, and game that’s way too long and grind than it is fun.
Thanks Kairosoft for creating the DX series so I can actually progress thru the game. I put in 150hrs in the first High Sea Saga and I can’t wait to put in another 150hrs into this game. Mahalo, Arigato, Thank you very much
Unlike other Kairosoft game, this game does require stamina (1 per 2 mins). It drives my addition up for a week and I couldn’t concentrating on other things if I keep thinking about it. There is no point to have such thing in a offline game.
Love kairosoft games, I think this one has the best combat and class system, at least the most enjoyable for me.
I’ve been a fan of kairosoft games for a long time, but this one is unplayable. The UI seems to have been built for a mouse/keyboard, including seeing the mouse cursor popping up. This makes navigating the dozens of menus difficult at best and impossible at worst. I requested a refund, but I don’t think that’s possible with Apples rules.
