Hatch Dragons is a standout in the crowded idle genre, largely due to its gorgeous 2D art and the genuine sense of wonder it creates when a rare egg finally cracks. Unlike many idle games that feel like a chore-list, the progression here feels tied to a living ecosystem. Watching your tiny Fire Sprite grow into a massive, island-spanning Ancient Dragon is consistently rewarding.
The 'Dragon Essence' mechanic adds a nice layer of strategy. You have to decide between spending essence on clearing the map for more space or reinvesting it into 'Sanctuary Upgrades' that boost your passive income. The seasonal events are particularly well-handled, offering exclusive elemental variants that encourage you to keep checking in. It’s a low-pressure, high-reward experience that hits all the right notes for collectors.
Beautiful 2D dragon designs
Offline progress tracking
Dragon breeding and elemental mixing
Regular limited-time events
Place your high-level dragons near the 'Ancient Tree' to receive a 20% essence production bonus.
Feed your dragons snacks found in the wild to increase their level. Once they reach Level 10, they transform into their Adult form.
The focus is on collection and sanctuary building, not combat.
Ever since I learned about this game I’ve had it preordered. And once it released I loved it. The gameplay, music and sounds are very relaxing. However, one thing that would be nice is to include ways to find friends, such as through a search bar or some other way. I don’t have friends that would want to play game like this so I’m pretty much alone on this game, and I really want to be able to get the dragons that are available when you increase your social score. So maybe one way to help out people like me would be to add a friend search bar. Also once I reach the social score to get the companionship dragon, it does not appear anywhere, not in the storage or anything, and I’m confused on what to do. Other than this, the game is incredibly well-made and relaxing.
While it’s cute and exciting at first, there’s some issues that really bother me, the biggest is that upgrading actually makes your stuff WORSE. The first dragon you get gives you 2 coins every 15 seconds, but the fully upgraded dragon gives you 6 every 60 seconds. That’s 2 coins LESS per minute than a completely non upgraded one. And it gets worse. Rarer dragons actually earn less coins per minute than the common ones due to this issue. This is really frustrating as it feels like there’s no point to upgrading at all except that you get to give your dragon a stupid little name. Second, the deals in this app are ATROCIOUS, there’s no such thing as a good deal. For example, your beginning trees earn 2 fruit every 30 seconds. That’s 240 fruits per hour. But if you spend 200 coins, you get 53 fruits after an hour. Like I’m actually confused what they were thinking. I guess it could make sense if you know you’re not going to play for the next hour but like, I actually want to PLAY the games I have, not have all the mechanics based on me NOT playing it. I also wish there was a breeding function in the game, like you could still summon but also breed for new dragons. And yeah, after the first day all the waits become so long that you can not play for 5 hours and when you come back, you have at most 10 minutes of play time before you have to wait again. That’s pretty lame, if these issues got fixed it would be really cool because I really like the art style and atmosphere.
This is a great game overall. I enjoy it thoroughly and see myself playing this for a long time. There are some quality of life updates that I would like to see in the future though: Dragging your dragons feels buggy/laggy. It’s hard to make them run into the pink floaty thing. I like to play zoomed in so I can see the cute dragons better. Because of this, it’s harder to drag a dragon up all the way to the quest spot. Maybe if you’re dragging a dragon while zoomed in, the map will move with you to follow your finger. So you don’t have to stop, move the map up, and continue to fly your dragon upwards. I also feel like getting the dragons to fly is too easy to do accidentally. I play zoomed in, I move the map around a lot. It’s pretty frustrating when I’m trying to move the map but I keep dragging dragons around instead. I keep finding myself trying to tap a dragon to look at its information page. But instead that info is in the bottom left menu button. I think that’d be a great quality of life update to include the specific dragon’s info page as a button next to “Store” and “Lay egg” I am kinda disappointed that the coins the dragons earn isn’t accumulated continuously over a longer amount of time. Rather it has a (very low) max limit, and they stop gaining coins after that. Having a sort of a limit is reasonable. But I find myself keeping the app open and tapping my dragons every minute or so just to earn up coins. When I would really like for that to be an idle thing that happens. But maybe encouraging players to keep the app open is a design choice. Either way, I feel like I should get way more than 6 coins from my fully leveled Woodpip (for ex.) after a full days idle time. Besides all this, this is a wonderful app and I look forward to where they take it!
I love these type of games especially this company but the biggest problem I have with all of the ones from this company is the lack of easy restoration if you lose your phone or upgrade your phone. They make it a hassle to transfer if you can even get them to. When other games have you connect to Apple ID or Facebook it means you can just connect into one of those and after a few minutes ALL of your game is back. Why even bother connecting if not for that instant restoration. Knowing that there is a chance I’d lose a collection of rare items I paid money to get… I’d NEVER spend money there.
I’m really enjoying this game so far. There’s a couple of things that I’m hoping the devs will see that could possibly improve gameplay. 1- I wish we could have baby dragons for longer. They are just soooo cute! 2- I think the flying of dragons is a little clunky. When I drag my finger around it doesn’t quite move smoothly and sometimes I wish they would move around as they please. 3- when I click my dragons for coins they fly in place. This seems okay for some of the dragons. But the early ones I press every couple seconds and they’re always flapping around. That’s it for now. I’ve only played about 20 minutes but I really like it so far
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because I haven’t played it that long. What I think of this game so far is that it’s a good game for an adult with little time on their hands. You can pop in and do your little task and harvest your plants and fish. Then you can pop off. It’s pretty low stimulating, allowing it to be calming and not hard to play. I really like that unlike most merging games you don’t have to build up tiers of dragons to merge them you can merge them right away. For early game it’s nice that you have the option to sell your trinkets for cash. I’m sure they become useful later in the game. Over all I really like the game and I hope they continue to add upon the already great formula they have.
This is genuinely one of the best cozy-style games I’ve ever played. The play style is very unique, but its not challenging to learn. The tutorial covers everything you need to know before you play, but its not long or annoying to get through. The art is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!! The dragons feel alive, both in how the move and in how they look, and I like how you can see animals or plants in real life that they sort of resemble. Also, the fact that you can play it without wifi makes it WAYYYYYY better. This is a great game for people who don’t have a lot of time to play, and its great for those who DO have a lot of time! Legit love this game so much, JUST PLAY IT PLEASE!!!
Really liking this game so far! Nice little thing to check in on between classes or when I’m taking a break on a project. Only thing I would note is that the cost of new areas feels like it scales a little fast but I suppose that’s necessary for right now as the maps much smaller than I first expected. Not a huge issue, I was just caught by surprise when I reached a certain level and then over half the map cleared up and it was all empty sky? I thought the trees were gonna go up much farther, but the games still new and is super promising so far so I’m sure they’ll do something fun with that space later on!
