fixed some bugs
Green Pond Town is a fascinating departure for CottonGame. While fans of the ISOLAND series will recognize the hand-drawn art style, the tone is significantly darker and more mature. It’s a noir mystery that slowly descends into psychological horror, and it does so with incredible restraint. The 'faceless' motif is genuinely unsettling, and the rain-slicked streets of Greenwater Town create a mood that is thick with dread.
The puzzles are some of the most cohesive I’ve seen from this studio. They feel integrated into the environment rather than just being arbitrary obstacles. Using the 'Phantasm Photo' mechanic to find hidden clues is a clever way to keep players engaged with the visuals. It’s not a game for everyone—the pacing is slow and the atmosphere is bleak—but for fans of cerebral, atmospheric puzzle adventures, it is an absolute standout. It’s the kind of game that lingers in your mind long after you've put the phone down.
Deeply immersive psychological horror narrative
Unique hand-drawn noir art style with black-and-white motifs
Intricately designed, multi-layered environmental puzzles
First-person exploration of a large, interconnected mysterious town
Atmospheric sound effects and original eerie soundtrack
No data collection and playable offline
Your journey begins at a stalled car on the outskirts of town. First, find the 'Rusty Key' hidden in the glove compartment to enter the first house. The core mechanic involves using your camera to capture 'Phantasm Photos' of the environment—these photos often reveal hidden numbers or symbols that don't appear to the naked eye. In the second chapter, pay close attention to the positioning of the umbrellas in the rainy alley; their colors correspond to the lock combination on the town hall door.
Green Pond Town emphasizes environmental storytelling. Every object you interact with—from a discarded letter to a flickering streetlamp—provides context for the town's history. The game utilizes a multi-interactive system where you must drag, combine, and rotate items in 3D to find hidden mechanisms. Unlike standard escape rooms, the puzzles are layered into the narrative, meaning you'll often need to backtrack to previous locations once you've discovered a new 'Memory Shard' to progress through the town's foggy boundaries.
While developed by the same studio (CottonGame) and sharing a similar puzzle logic, Green Pond Town is a standalone story with a much darker, horror-focused tone than the ISOLAND games.
There are two reviews titled “what and “don’t waste your money.” I would say to them, What? Don’t waste your money? Are you kidding? This is a great game! These people clearly have no clue how these games work. Or how to navigate them. It’s certainly not easy but everything is totally solvable with some time spent thinking and not leaping for a walkthrough. It took me about two days playing a few hours at a time. Maybe a bit shorter than most, but it’s not a short game. About the game… it’s easy to get around and click items. The world feels large but it doesn’t take too much time to get end to end. The items that you collect are minimal and easy to find. The puzzles have layers but the clues are fairly straightforward. A few had me thinking but all made total sense. The story- I’m not sure really, but that has never been important with the CottonGame titles. If you’ve played Rusty Lake, Glitch Games, or other CottonGame titles, you’ll love this. Great work, devs!
Just an awful game. Two stars because one of the “puzzles” is somewhat okay. Story makes no sense and leads to a computer generated devil at the end for some reason. Puzzles were awful. Basically just clicking around to find random items that aren’t labeled to them click randomly with them to hope they work because nothing is clear. Why is the second stick what you needed for the paint easel? You think you’d highlight that you could draw with it. Instead it just looks exactly like the other stick used to light a fire. Why are there so many inventory items that you can’t see all at once? Every other game does this without issue. Just make a visible side panel of all your items instead of having to click through them. Why are there CONSTANT popups of inner thoughts, some of which pause the game for several seconds. It is so infuriating. We get it, the fish needs to be poisoned. Stop telling me every time I go through the room, making the game unplayable for five seconds at a time. Seems like it’s trying to mimic rusty lakes art style and puzzle layout, but just an awful attempt at it. The hardest thing about this entire game is figuring out what the items are for because they are so poorly labeled. Once you realize what they’re meant to be, the game is maybe ten minutes in length. Just horrendous besides one puzzle that takes maybe 90 seconds to do.
Fun game! Not super long but also not super expensive. Totally worth the small price. Fun puzzles (except for a couple of the mini games that hurt my brain and where it wasn’t very clear what you had to do but not a big deal - I used a walkthrough for help with one). Overall a great quality game. I would make two small changes if I could: I’d change the font to something more lyrical and less business like, and I’d make the inventory work so that you could select an item and tap on multiple places instead of having to select the item each time. Small things that would add to the experience imo. But, as I said, a good and fun game!
I’ve been following all your games and here is another masterpiece!!!!! I’m playing it so slowly so it doesn’t end :( please make more games!!! Also, I wish there was a walkthrough lol there aren’t any online yet
I was SO excited when I saw a new game coming out. I’ve played all of the point and click escape games on iOS so I have to wait patiently for new ones. But what is this?? I’ve played hundreds of these and this one is so obscure even I can’t figure out some of these “puzzles”?? They seem to mostly be in the same style and there’s no clue to what they want. And NO HINT SYSTEM?? Did you forget it?? I’ll change my review if you can add a hint system and maybe an explanation to what these puzzles mean? I’m so sad about this.
This game made zero sense with both story and the actual puzzles. For the puzzles that felt logical, those were way too easy, Which made the ending commentary feel more like they were mocking players for actually having spent money on this game. The other games from this company are challenging and esoteric but at least they feel well thought-out. This game feels incomplete and rushed. Don’t waste your money.
I agree with the other reviewers - don’t waste your time or money. I've played all of the Cotton games, and this is hands down the worst one. Actually, this is the worst game that I've ever played on my iPhone. I regret spending my money on this pathetic excuse of a game.
I read the bad reviews, but thought I’ll give it a shot regardless…game seemingly doesn’t make sense, no clues, not intuitive…just hoping they make some major fixes…wish I had waited before I bought the game.
