The goal is to form 'melds' (sets or runs) and reduce your 'deadwood' (unmatched cards). You can 'knock' when your deadwood is 10 points or less, but waiting for a 'Gin' (zero deadwood) gives a bigger bonus.

Wed Jun 11 2025 LookidrankabeerI play every day pretty much. The strengths of the game are simplicity and stability, with a challenging AI. After playing for years I win approximately 60% of the time. There are some oddities in the game, like how it deals high numbered cards and works its way down. You totally learn to instinctively predict this non-random behavior and collect high cards, both because the AI drops them and the deck deals them. Against a human opponent or a random deck this behavior would backfire. The computer also plays on good if not perfect memory of what cards you have taken, and probably can guess your hand most games. Other than those aspects, i disagree that it cheats or anything, as some report. That’s not true. It’s difficult but interesting dynamic game play.

Sun Nov 07 2021 sick of one sidedI like the game, but it’s a little bit stacked to lose big. 20 to 2 times it gives the opponent to go out big in one or two moves to often, and same principle as to skunk you more than you can. Why is it that all to often it knows the card you need to go out and gins right then!!!!!!!!!! I would like to say that program is very one sided. Way to often the computer knocks out or gin rummy one the first card. I never ever been dealt a hand that I was able to do that. The computer has done that so many time, very unfair. Cheat cheat cheats. Why don’t we get hands that go out on the first second or third card. Way to often on the computer parts. If you want a fair game, this is not it. Definitely favors the computer. Why can’t you just play a fair game. When you lose, you lose ridiculously lopsided. Can’t wait until the computer stop cheating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seven finin games in a row. Sixty percent of the time it discards the card I need to go out, but that’s when he goes out before I can get that card. People if you expect a fair game, try a different developer’s version of the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👎👎👎👎👎👎. Really Really, 11 f in rounds in a row GIN RUMMY!!!!!!!! People does that seem like the f in developer plays fair!!!!!!!!! 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎 I gave you so many chances to make it more even so FFFFF. UUUU!!!!!!!! Not a balanced game
Tue May 04 2021 Dan10005The good news is that I have gotten better at playing this game because of the app. The VERY bad news is how lopsided the deals are. I agree with other reviewers....it is astounding how often the system has gin or knocks within being dealt the first 2 or 3 cards. I have played enough games to know this isn’t random....it is definitely tilted towards the house. The other thing that sticks out is how often the system gets dealt a ton of low cards and I get high cards (all random so no chance of melding). About every 4th day I seem to get dealt all the good cards and have the advantage. My stats are actually pretty good. Why? Because I stop playing when the system can’t lose....80% of the time. On the days/times I get good cards....I keep playing. Needs a LOT of work. Yes AI is better than me....but that isn’t the issue here....the system is tilted severely towards itself. Updating this review. I paid close attention over the last couple of days exactly how cards were dealt. The dealer won at least 10 hands within 3 cards while I did it once. It especially seems to happen after it loses a couple of hands and feels like it needs to catch up. I don’t believe anyone would design a game to do that but how do you explain it. It is the most frustrating app I have ever experienced.....so unbalanced it isn’t even funny.
Why cheat
Wed May 14 2025 ¥_^£I don’t know really what to say about this game. On one hand it could be fun to play, on the other hand yes the house does deal itself good hands about 80% more then you will ever get one. But I must ask with the lopsidedness that the self serving dealing affords it why cheat on top of that? Let’s say the house has a pair of aces yet, which it always does, how does it draw a Q of hearts? The same Qof hearts it already thru out a couple of plays ago. If you pay close attention you will notice that that type of thing happens every hand more or less. You get low in the deck and know your card has to be coming up soon and then the house throws out the sixth Q, yes I’m not making that up. You pay attention you will notice that instead of having to throw out your card it will just throw out one that was already ditched. With all the advantages built in for the house to win why feel the need to cheat on top of it? At first I liked playing this game, until I caught on to the sneakiness it uses to win. If you don’t believe me play a few hands and watch, you will see that some sets have 5 or 6 cards knit not just the real 4 per.

Thu Sep 03 2020 lauwerspSo their “rocket science AI adapting to your skill level” is nothing more than a fancy term for cheating. It’s one thing to speculate, but after a fantastically high percentage of seeing the key card needed hit the discard pile as the computer knocks, I decided to document the frequency and cards being held. As you get better, the AI (if you can call it that) holds key cards to your hand regardless of their point value or relevance to their hand... discarding them only when they’ve reached the point they can knock. Why would the computer hang on to a ten until the end of the game, for example, when none of their cards rely on any cards close to that? They can’t have just drawn that card because it would mean the computer could have/would have knocked the hand before. I’ve had the computer pickup a DISCARD of mine and then turn around a discard the exact high value card I need and knock. There is just no strategic reason this should ever happen. Additionally, just to address any other potential reason this COULD happen, it’s occurred in games where the computer is routinely discarding lower value cards to hang on to this higher value, but irrelevant to its hand, card. The devs can call it “entertainment” or whatever else they want, but at the end of the day, you’re NOT playing Gin Rummy if the computer is allowed to cheat, or the deck is stacked etc. 4 hands in a row where the computer knocks on their first turn isn’t statistically impossible, but ask yourself if you’ve ever seen it in real life. That’s happened to me (4 one turn computer wins in a row) 3 times since I began playing this game years ago. I would love someone with the statistical detail on Gin Rummy to give me the odds of that. I’ve played 538 hands. If I had spent a nickel on this game I’d demand it back... it’s fraud and it’s cheap.

Wed Oct 12 2022 ShalliepatI can handle the unbalanced dealing of cards, with the odds very much slanted in favor of the house, which really is an honest issue. I get very angry when they sponsor pop-ups that actually lie to us saying that our device will not work anymore unless we clean it because it is full. It seems to be from the game as there is no heading. I have complained about this before, but they have yet to even acknowledge my complaint, much less address it. Until about a year ago, I really enjoyed this game and I believed it was the best, but then the ads that lie and try to intimidate you into using something you know nothing about began. There is no way this can be true in my situation… It seems the ad is trying to gain access to your device under false pretenses. PLAYER BEWARE! Also, the ads often use more time than the play. Often I just move on to another game or version.
So unbalanced
Sat Jan 31 2026 Lea18I have played Gin Rummy for years and I call myself a decent player. I agree with all the other reviewers that this game is very skewed toward the house. I’ve noticed that the game feels like it needs to have a couple of revenge wins if you happen to get successful wins three or four times in a row, and then it makes the house catch up in like one fell swoop. Also, I don’t see how it is possible in any way shape or form that even before I draw one single card in the game, this house can knock and get 60+ points right off the bat. This game is more frustrating than it is fun. So no thanks, I’m not gonna play this game anymore and I’m deleting the app. If you’re reading this, I know you came here to see if others have this problem and you’re feeling the exact same frustration. I’m here to tell you that you’re not imagining the problem, that it is real. And I suggest you delete the game too. Not worth it even if it is free.

Thu Aug 02 2018 Jib_AussieEnjoy the game and can only give 1 instead of 5 stars. I paid $4.99 to remove the ads; while they are not on my iPad, they have not been removed on my iPhone. I have deleted and reinstalled the app. If you have to pay $4.99 per device (shame on me if I missed this stipulation), then I rate with 0 stars. Am I missing something? Would like to contact these folks, I cannot see where I can do so. They don’t seem to read these reviews and haven’t contacted me to explain. Also don’t understand why my review is posted by “HandiGal” as this is not my handle. This game is a complete scam. I emailed these folks asking to explain why you have to pay $4.99 for no ads PER DEVICE!!! Also, they reuse cards in every game. For example, you will see 7 kings played in one game. This has happened every single time; I have stopped keeping track of duplicate cards. DO NOT USE THIS APP, EVEN IF YOU USE THE FREE VERSION. I have never rated an app, but felt the need to do so with this app.
