Apple Adherence Policy Update
Gamestar App Play is a fascinating bridge between physical toys and digital creativity. It’s not just a game; it’s a toolkit that allows users to bring their Gamestar Mechanic physical sets to life through their mobile devices. The primary hook here is the ability to scan and interact with components you've built in the real world, creating a hybrid play experience that is increasingly popular in the edutainment space.
From a technical standpoint, the scanning technology is surprisingly robust, though it does require decent lighting to function perfectly. The app provides a clean interface for managing your creations and participating in various challenges. While the 'game' aspects might feel a bit thin if you don't own the physical sets, for those who do, it transforms a static toy into a dynamic digital adventure. It’s a great example of how mobile apps can extend the life of traditional play.
Seamless toy-to-digital scanning
Interactive story modes
Exclusive digital rewards
Safe environment for young creators
To begin, find a well-lit area and lay out your Gamestar physical components. Use the in-app camera tool to align the markers. Once scanned, the app will generate a digital version of your build.
Once your set is scanned, navigate to the 'Challenge' tab. Here, you'll find physics-based mini-games that require you to move your physical pieces to solve digital objectives.
While some features are accessible, the core experience is designed to be used with Gamestar physical play sets.
Family Feud - Fine function. Doesn’t need anything improved in my opinion. Press Your Luck - Great start, but I wish there was a way to keep score and track of spins in app, but also recognize that would defeat the purpose of the gameboard in the box. The Whammies are EXCELLENT. Additionally, even basic graphics for “prizes” would be better than just putting words. It cheapens an otherwise fine game. Jeopardy - I know it was just released, but the buzzer system is a bit of a weird setup and seems like it would be hard to use on a single device like an iPad (let alone a phone). The graphics are also a bit off-center or disproportionate for the screen depending on the device you use (specifically the Daily Double screen). If anything, this is a game that I feel should have a remote capability like the Jeopardy PlayStar app. I also noticed that the physical game has not been made available yet, so I’m curious as to when it would be released. Wheel of Fortune - The benefit of creating an app is that you can expand where board games are limited. That being said, I wish there was more than one Wheel configuration for different rounds (like what was done with PYL) and diversity with the wedge values, including prizes or the mystery wedges. I feel it could also benefit from in-app scoring (including the ability to deduct for “buying a vowel”, adding to a game total by “solving”, and clearing score with “Bankrupt”). This one is also lacking a physical game currently and so, like Jeopardy, I’m wondering when the physical game itself will be released?
This app is awesome, I recently got the Family Feud board game and while going through this app I found the Wheel of Fortune sounds and wheel!! So I bought the Wheel of Fortune board game to play along with this app. Then, it logged me out by itself and it didn’t let me sign back in, I can’t make a new password, it won’t log me in at all no matter what I do. Then I decided to make a new account with another email and when I’m signed in there’s only 2 games available!?!? I don’t know what to do!!! I’ve emailed asking for help but have failed to receive an email back! I really hope you all can help or fix this issue!! Me and my family love playing with this app!!! Thanks.
I bought the actual Jeopardy game in person and was excited to play it with my kids. The box says you just download the app to play along, so I figured it would be simple. Instead the app immediately forces you into a subscription screen. On top of already buying the physical game, the app wants you to pay again just to use it. I even had Apple Cash in my Apple Wallet ready to subscribe, just to get past the screen, but every time I try to purchase it says purchase failed try again. Over and over. There is no way to restore a purchase. No settings. No menu. You cannot even skip the screen. The app literally traps you there and you cannot move forward. So not only did I spend money buying the game, the app requires another subscription that does not even work. The physical game is now completely useless because the app is required to play. And the worst part is that I only get certain nights with my kids. I wanted this to be our fun game night. Instead the entire night was wasted staring at a broken subscription screen. I cannot pay for the app. I cannot use the app. I cannot even play the game that I already purchased. This is incredibly frustrating and feels misleading. Do not buy this game or download the app until they fix this problem.
If you add one of the games to ‘My List’ and attempt to launch it from the ‘My List’ section, the app crashes 100% of the time. However, after several attempts and reaching an almost unbearable level of frustration, I tapped a game from the App&Play screen and and Launched from there and it actually worked. A few additional tests confirmed that this behavior was present regardless of which game; each game works normally when launched from the App&Play screen, and crashes the app every time when launched from the ‘My List’ screen.
I got the wheel of fortune game and was so excited to sit down and play it with my kids so I downloaded the app and it won’t work. It opens up and says game star with the little whoosh sound then shows me the screen that I have to buy a subscription (which is already annoying because the game says it’s a completely free app needed). I looked past the cost since it was $3.99 for an entire year but every time I try to click the proven to subscription button it says “purchase failed try again” I try clicking “restore purchase” and again get the same message of purchase failed. This is dumb. Waste of money and time. Now I have a game with no way to play without the wheel.
Just tried using this app after a long time away and found it screwy work on my iPad - specifically, Press Your Luck. Re-orienting from portrait to landscape caused an off-centered picture, such that part of the game board and the “spin” button went off-screen. Force-closing the app and retrying didn’t help, and neither did a full reboot of my device. The app and my iOS are both up-to-date, so not sure what else to do. The app is now pretty much useless to me, which is quite a disappointment, after having paid for the accompanying board game box.
i was trying to play a fun game with my family, but no! it doesn’t even let me access the game, like what? I was stuck on the home screen for like five minutes. And then eventually we just gave up because we were stuck on the screen that said start after previous times of clicking the start button, thinking it would let me play, but it didn’t. So congratulations on ruining my family game night. Never play this if you don’t like crashing games, or if you don’t like laggy, unstable games. I don’t and I will never recommend this.
I downloaded the Wheel of Fortune game, excited to play it with friends, but the app simply will not work. It opens and immediately shows a screen for a subscription, essentially forcing me to pay if I want to play, even though the game is advertised as a completely free app. This is already annoying because the ad states it’s a free app. The worst part is that the purchase system is broken. Every time I try to click the button for the annual subscription, I get a message saying "purchase failed try again." When I then try to use the "restore purchase" option, I receive a different error message stating that "it can't find a subscription." This is a complete waste of time and money. I now have a game I cannot access or play because the purchase system is faulty and won't let me move forward.
