Extreme Tux Racer is a nostalgic trip for those who remember the early days of open-source gaming. It’s a straightforward downhill racer where you control Tux the penguin as he slides down snowy slopes. The goal is simple: reach the finish line as fast as possible while collecting fish for points. It’s charming, colorful, and very easy for kids to pick up.
While it doesn't have the complexity of modern mobile racers, the various terrains and tricky passes provide a decent challenge. The addition of accelerometer and touch controls makes it feel right at home on an iPhone. It’s a great, 'no-nonsense' game that’s free of the aggressive monetization found in most modern titles. It’s pure, snowy fun.
Classic 3D penguin racing
Tilt or touch controls
Dozens of levels and terrains
Completely free to play
Try to stay on the smoothest parts of the snow to maintain speed. Avoid deep drifts and rocks that will slow Tux down.
Participate in timed events where your goal is to beat specific clock times to unlock new slopes.
Collecting fish increases your score and helps you achieve better ratings on each level.
This is a simple app with graphics that are a bit dated, but fun nonetheless. If you are looking for a game that can be played by children without frustrating them, this is it. My siblings and I used to play this when younger and it kept us entertained. As an adult now, this game is quite simplistic, but good if you are bored at the airport, or in need of a break from the world for a bit. There are several avatars to choose from (Tux, Trixie, Boris, and a few others) and the passes range from the super easy bunny hill to the trickier narrow passes. The weather and lighting conditions are adjustable too. Game play is easy to do on a keyboard using the arrow keys and your avatar is capable of speeding up, braking, turning, etc. If you are tired of seeing advertisements on other games and want a game you can play mindlessly, this is for you. I would not expect anything intense or challenging from it, but for the price and the ease of use, I consider it worth it.
I am embarrassed to think about how many hours I’ve spent on my PC playing this game. Its very addictive. This version had a glitch that I reported to the developer. He promptly made the change per my request and emailed me back. I appreciate the attention given to a user, I appreciate (tremendously) the Apple report that no information is collected, and I’ll be glad to waste a ridiculous amount of time on the phone version now! Thanks Dimitri.
The PC version of this used to be my favorite game as a kid and now I am happy to have it on my phone! I also love the new features it has and I am happy the app is free! Thank you to the developer for making this!
Best mobile game ever, love the tilt feature and gameplay.
The best game = most addictive, most enjoyable. It will haunt your dreams.
I paid for the app, but it would not open on macOS 12.6 (error).
Wasted $1.99 on it. Downloaded it but it just does not open.
the game crashes immediately upon opening
