Empress's Choice is a lavishly produced 'palace simulator' that excels in its storytelling and aesthetic. It perfectly captures the high-drama atmosphere of an imperial harem, tasking you with rising from a lowly maid to the powerful Empress. The sheer volume of content—over 100 chapters—is impressive, and the fact that your choices actually branch the narrative gives it more depth than your average dress-up game.
Speaking of dress-up, the fashion system is incredibly detailed, blending traditional oriental textures with modern flair. Competing with other players in dressing contests adds a social element that feels integrated rather than tacked on. It’s a compelling mix of visual novel, RPG, and fashion simulation that will keep anyone interested in palace intrigue hooked for a long time.
100+ chapters of branching story
In-depth ancient fashion and dress-up
Romantic confidant and family system
Palace intrigue and harem management
Global fashion creativity contests
Focus on building relationships with high-ranking nobles early on. Their support will be crucial when you face the 'Competing' stages that determine your promotion.
Enter the dressing contests frequently. Use the 'Ancient Buildings' backdrop to highlight oriental-textured clothes, which often score higher in traditional themes.
Yes, your choices determine the trend of the story and your ultimate success in the harem.
I have been logging in everyday for half a year now, and honestly its just because the game is so refreshing compared to other ones. No ingame ads, you dont have to pay to enjoy the game (havent spent a cent,) the plot is interesting and theres hella tea (drama) and the outfits are really fun to create once you have a good wardrobe built up. Admittedly it is repetitive and there is some daily grinding, but they make it easier as you progress, and all the people in my server are really nice and it creates a relaxing atmosphere. Its a fun game to play if you have the time to waste. You probably wont ever become empress tho lol Edit: I have tried playing many other empress games and always got stuck at some point and couldnt progress because of certain paywalls, which hasnt happened to me yet, so i would recommend this over other similar games.. looking at you revenge of the queen 🙄
** for anyone wondering, no, this game isn't like the ads at all. I don't recommend it if you were hoping for that kind of game. I'm not going to judge based off that though, since it's common practice with advertising anyway and I sort of knew what to expect already when I downloaded it. I'mjust judging based off what's actually in the game.** I'm not that far in, but so far the art seems nice and the story is engaging. I'm not so clear about the actual "game" portion of it, though. The tutorial is still holding my hand through every action even after chapter 1 ended and I still feel like I have no idea what's going on. I keep getting new item after new item when I'm still not sure what the last one was supposed to do, there's a bunch of different currency for several different things off the bat, and overall I just don't quite get how it all affects the story besides the couple of "games" where you just hope to have a higher number than the opponent. It's just a lot of systems and moving parts at once, and I really can't figure out how they all slot together. Maybe it's just normal for these types of games and I'm not yet used to them? In any case, at the very least it doesn't actually seem to be hindering me at all. As far as I can tell, the game tells me to tap this button, and that button, and then I play the story and it all works out without any effort on my part. I'm a bit nervous for when the gameplay gets harder, but maybe I'll understand it better by then? I hope so, anyway.
I played this game for about 3/4s of a year, and it was honestly really time consuming. I would spend 2-4 hours everyday on this game, and while it was rewarding at first, after a while it just became brain-numbing. The story is alright, but it’s hard to get prestige to play the story. There’s a lot of other things to do, but most of them have long refill times, and it’s nearly impossible to get everything done in less than an hour, so if that’s what you’re looking for, this is not it. It’s fairly easy to get ingots as a F2P player as long as you don’t spend them everyday (gaining around 800 daily) but you would still need 20k AT LEAST to complete any limited events, and there’s hardly ever a break between events to stock up on ingots again. Also, they only merged servers for events, so if you’re in a dead server, good luck being able to do Opera or Banquets, and you might as well say bye bye to Fashionfest because it won’t even start if not enough players signed up for it. There are some goods things though- the outfits are awesome and you get a free 4 star outfit every month for logging in, and I met some really great people in my server, although there’s like a 50/50 chance of getting a good server, since I've heard some are really toxic. I know I have a lot of complaints and not many compliments, but overall I did enjoy my time and I think that it’s worth a try. I don’t write reviews that often, but I do hope this helps!
Don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing game. I’ve been playing this game for about four years now. But once you reach a specific level and/or have been a loyal paying player there are plenty of things the devs have not updated or fixed. They also stopped listening to players in the discord and through their customer service. (They haven’t updated the otherworld, the Destiny chart, the prison, the court roulette, AND FASHION FEST.) Fashion fest is practically useless in some servers because the participants are less than ten and then that means no one is allowed to vote or get the gem rewards at all. It’s bs. Multiple people in my server have begged the devs to fix it and they just give us a polite yet dismissive response. They have gotten very money hungry also. Things used to be more generous and that’s why so many people were playing at the time. But that was like.. two years ago. Now all they ever focus on is recycling the same outfit sets in events and making the ingot price of game token ridiculous so you pretty much can’t get anything except one or two items from a set max after an event. I really used to be a ride or die fan of this game and had multiple friends join because I loved it so much but they all stopped playing due to how the devs have been acting with the game lately. It’s sad and disappointing. Even other members in the server have been dropping like flies because of this and everyone on the discord is upset and disappointed as well. DEVS PLEASE MAKE SOME CHANGES YOU’RE LOSING YOUR FAN BASE!
Overall I really enjoyed this game! My community was super amazing (tho I’ve heard otherwise from different servers) and I really enjoyed the early plot and a lot of mechanics. The outfits are fun and very pretty, and I like the many servants and general progression mechanics. The plot of the story, however, is repetitive and boring after a time. The emperor is frustrating (I have never hated a man more, he’s so stupid) and there are so many more minor characters (mostly the four love interests) that are so much more engaging but get little time to shine on their own. I also really hated how much irl money was necessary to gain items during events, as you could save 4000 gold and still not be able to make enough in a event to get a cool outfit. I may go back to play this game eventually but I got frustrated and wasn’t having fun. The community kept me going as long as it was (shout out to royal from server 66!), I just wish the plot was more engaging and didn’t require quite so much saving up.
I’ll start off with the good: Most of the outfits are beautiful, the story is engaging, some of the events come with fun mini games, and the ladies in my server are all very nice aside from the occasional troll. It’s a solid way to spend the time instead of scrolling. I also love the fact that there aren’t any ads, which is rare with mobile games. The bad: The game encourages/rewards you for things like slapping other players and stealing from their gardens. It seems as though the developers want to breed animosity between players instead of a more “sisterhood” approach. My biggest complaint would have to be about how greedy the developers have gotten. When I first started playing 3-4 months ago, getting event outfits was fairly easy. Each outfit consists of 7-9 pieces and getting 4-6 pieces wasn’t too difficult. Now, months later, you’re lucky if you can get a single piece without spending any money. For example, the most recent event had two outfits available, consisting of 16 pieces total. After completing all the free challenges, I had enough “wishes” to get one random piece, and I got earrings. Hoping I would get one of the dresses, I spent about 1000 ingots (the hard-to-get in game currency) and got one more piece: shoes. Curious as to how much I’d have to spend to get the other 14 pieces, I did the math and it came to a whopping $490. That’s…insanity? 30 wishes gets one random piece, and 30 wishes costs $35. It’s bad enough that one piece of the outfit would cost $35 dollars, but the fact that it gives you a random piece and doesn’t even let you choose? $35 and you get a necklace? A bracelet? Socks maybe? Players are leaving the game faster than they’re joining because it’s becoming 100% pay to play. Even some of the top players in my server are considering quitting the game because it’s just getting ridiculous. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk😭
Like many people, I too assumed the game was going to be a money-suckling and quick-to-bore gacha where the “choices” don’t live up to what they seem. But boy, was i WRONG! This game is actually pretty addicting, there’s many things you can do. The story, interacting with other players, events, etc. The story is a pretty integral part of the experience, as it unlocks different mechanics (such as kids) and characters you can romance. The choices ACTUALLY have a purpose! While many lead to the same dialogue, depending on your choice, you’ll receive a certain amount of points that will get you to your “destiny”. Which is a story mechanic that will affect the outcome of your stay at the palace. and, you DON’T have to pay for any dialogue options (unlike many choice-based games.. ugh 🤢) It’s also pretty easy to spend no money or barely any, as the only thing that would force you to empty your wallet is to make it on the leaderboard and score high on some events. If your goal is to just have fun and enjoy the BEAUTIFUL graphics, characters, and clothing, it’s pretty easy to get in-game currency through daily tasks and etc. You can also obtain a lot of different currencies through simply waiting a few hours or until the next day. I will say, the only things in the game I find “scammy” or useless is the Silver Fish Koi Pond, as it regurgitates the same one/two star clothing and duplicates unlike it’s Gold counterpart. And ranking high in any of the leaderboards (How do those guys have so much money to waste?!) Overall, I would rate it a 4.5, but for the plot twist on it being an actual game and not a quick cash grab, I’ll give it 5 stars :)
Im highly upset with a lot of things like the manor house why do I need to buy materials to be able to make what I want you guys are making this unfair on top of the fact that the materials take hours just to make 100 and I have enough supplies so I’m honestly over it can’t even make something pretty without having to actually spend money on the game, number two is the koi pond if I have the fish to make a wish why is that I spend it and get the same clothes OVER AND OVER it’s not fair and then the fur part I have 5000 canton crepe for recycle exchange but can’t get a single piece because for some reason I don’t get any fur so it’s honestly just wasting my time and frustrating me, some people don’t spend money on game like me, you guys are making everything so hard to do so tht we end up spending our money which I don’t appreciate at all because I actually enjoy the game but if I’m putting all this time for it to be the same things over and over I might aswell not play it anymore, I shouldn’t have to spend my earnings in the game to end up with nothing valuable taht I can have fun with…
