Our Expert Score

81/100

Dragons: Rise of Berk is a dream come true for fans of the 'How to Train Your Dragon' franchise. It’s a city-builder that actually respects the source material, allowing you to explore the world of Berk and collect almost every dragon seen in the films and TV shows. The visual fidelity is impressive, with character models and animations that look like they were pulled straight from the big screen. Watching Toothless soar over your village is a genuine treat for any fan.

The gameplay is a slow-burn resource management loop, focusing on gathering fish and wood to upgrade your town and train your dragons. While it does feature the wait-timers typical of the genre, the 'Brawl' mode adds a nice tactical combat element that breaks up the building phases. Sending your dragons on exploration missions to find rare eggs is exciting, and the sense of community in the game is strong. It’s a cozy, beautiful, and nostalgic experience that captures the heart of the Viking-dragon friendship.

A few things I think you should change
Tue Feb 25 2025 Felixico 061211

1: I think trader Johanns ship should have better stuff like dragons and I think there should be card pack offers in the ship too 2: I think more stuff in the game should cost runes instead of money because sometimes I find myself with 1000 or more runes that I don’t know what to do with 3: also I think that you should make it so that when you’re placing down decorations it’s on a different sort of grid system so that you can spin it anyway you want same thing with the houses 4: I think you should make it so the alpha premium pass costs runes and the grand alpha is the only pass that costs money 5: I think that you should up the price of the Dragon riders club and make it so that instead of it being monthly when you pay the amount of money, you have it forever or for the rest of the year 6: I think when you explore with dragons, it would be a cool idea if you could play as your Dragon and go to the actual locations where your Dragon is searching and you could search manually instead 7: I think it would also be cool if we could just play as our dragons and explore Berk but only what we have placed down as decorations and what we have unlocked I think it would be cool if we could also explore the other areas like dragons edge, and we could fly around : I really hope that the developers see this and if they do, I really hope that they take consideration to some of the stuff that I suggested

I have a few concerns

I have been playing this game for probably two years now and I am a little upset about the “exclusive dragon’s” or the dragon riders and light fury along with the grand alpha pass in the seasonal market. For people who don’t pay for the extra stuff I was thinking… maybe you could allow those people to collect items like in the brute dragon’s or seedling dragon collection. I know this next part may be a bit much but it would make a lot more sense. I just only got the lighting speed stinger from the ascending dragon cave and I also have a cavern crasher. When I send them out to collect resources they both burrow. I was wondering if you could change that so when people send them out the dragons that can’t fly burrow or run down the place we’re they can gather the resources. I was also wondering if you could possibly put in a resource we’re people can send dragons out to collect coins but only a certain amount for different dragons please. I know that this may be a lot to change but it would make the game a lot easier for me and other players who either can’t or won’t pay for the extra stuff and I know that it is your way of making money but it would be game changing (no pun intended) for players like myself. If you can do this I would really appreciate and do my best to get as many dragons as I can. Thank you for creating such an amazing game.

Outstanding

One thing that I think would be very successful would be another icon at the bottom of perhaps a clock, or maybe just a logo, and what happens upon tapping this is a menu pops up that has the logo of Toothless, Cloudjumper, then the Light Fury. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd movie respectively. You would have to unlock the next film. Like you start in a basic area in Movie One and go through the main events from the beginning fight to the Green / Red death fight at the end. Then you can unlock Race To The Edge or Riders Of Berk (I think that was the CN series?), complete a bit of that (not a lot- maybe just expand to a few island and complete some quests) after that, unlock 2nd movie then 3rd. Now, what I actually think of the game. Runes are VERY good priced. You get them easily (clearing rocks, the packs, OR EVEN the DARN DRAGON RIDERS. So worth it) so naturally you will get a small amount of what you pay for. Fish and wood should have an easier way of obtaining. Wood you can get from cutting trees, but fish is left out and it is roughly the most used currency. I think if Fish was made CHEAPER this would be a fair deal. Space. I think while you are updating and adding new islands the dev team should try to perhaps make the islands easier to fit into. For example the first island has many a free space even with he best attempts at cramming it in there. Dragons are easy to obtain and easy to level up and obtain so your collection is pretty spe e d. TL;DR: Amazing game with amazing prices that is, amazingly, AD FREE.

Problem

I have now been playing Rise of Berk for my tenth year now. I’ve been not spending runes on anything unless it involves the Night Lights ( Teenage or baby ). When I turn seven my parents were kind enough to buy me the membership. When they bought it the game glitched and exited me out of the app. I logged back in and I didn’t have the membership. But it still charged the money to their account. Every year it charges their account for something I don’t have. I also try to make it up to them by doing chores for the entire neighborhood to earn money for my parents. I have also been scrounging all my money to buy the membership in hope that I will get it and every Christmas the game has let me down. I keep doing this because Toothless and his family are my favorite dragons. Ever since I first saw the “How to Train Your Dragon” movie I was in love with Toothless. I have then seen every other movie the day they came out. I then bought every single book, toy, stuffed animal, and movie that I could ever find. So it is extremely frustrating when I try to get the whole family and I can’t. My phone is fairly new and I know it can’t be because of the age of the phone because each time I get a new device I get the membership. My entire family and all my friends have the game and ( tried and failed ) to get the membership. We have taken a survey and 56/57 of us have not gotten the membership. We all have agreed that all the dragons are far to many runes. I plead you to please make at least the Light Fury free. I am also desperate enough to beg you from the bottom of my heart to give every player a gift in the inbox giving the teenage Night Lights.

Love it

Ok so I’ve been playing this for about two years now and this games is one of my favorites. All though I would like to address this... The Lightfury. Ok so honestly how to train your dragon the hidden world was an amazing movie but, I was really sad when I had to pay so much money just for one dragon. So I was wondering if in a certain point 8n the game if you could make light fury free or at least how we unlock like the green death, or hook fang, meatlug, and stormfly. Basically you can earn it. Also the night lights are bothering me two, I’m not saying they should be free just that they should cost less like I said, I’ve been playing for about two years and I’m on.y at 8,000 something. Also I just unlocked the green death so go me, but just for the sake of it, could you be a bit more specific than “ unlock the brute dragons collection” it really confused like “ do I get them for free? Do I search for them?” Ect. I know this is probably asking a lot ( and you don’t have to do that last one, sorry ) but it would really market it easier to play and enjoy, and I’m gonna be honest, your game is the first game I go to after watching race to the edge, the hidden world, o4 just strait up reading the books. Also fun fact, I was born the same year how to train your dragon came out! Any case, thanks😉

Great game - One MAJOR Flaw

This game is fantastic and deserves nothing less than 5 stars. I’ve watched every film, TV Series, and Short film front to back ending at Homecoming. Everything I can imagine is included, every named dragon is accounted for as a “Unique” dragon. The design is perfect. It gives a good nostalgic feel. And there are plenty of Dragons to discover that come solely from the game. Now, my one complaint that I’ve come across so far. It’s the reward system. I hate how when you “Spin” the wheel for a Journey you just tap it. And it always stops at the beginning of a piece of the pie or the end. You can very easily tell it’s pre-chosen. I can’t get behind that. If you want players to continue to stay, getting the reward they want is huge. I understand it won’t happen constantly, but at least truly letting us spin the wheel will be a lot better than the worst reward predetermined 95% of the time. I’ll have 2 eggs I’ve never unlocked and Raw Amber… and it’s the Amber every single time. If I was spinning it and it truly was random it would be fine. I personally cannot understand the reason for it. People are way more motivated to play when they see constant progress rather than constant failure. It’s a great game besides that, but I really wish rewards weren’t predetermined.

To rigged

Although I love this game and love its set up, it’s very rigged. I know they want to make their money off of it but they make it almost impossible not to spend money once you get to the higher levels. Just recently unlocked the ability to gather iron and it costs fish to gather iron. In my opinion I don’t think it should cost another resource to gather a resource. But that’s not the worst part about it... IT COSTS 450 MILLION fish to go gather 1 piece of iron. It takes approximately 2 to 3 days to gather that much fish and to have to spend it all on one go like that is outrageous. Then it takes the dragon I have with the ability to gather iron 1 day and 17 hours just to gather 1 piece. I try to do big things like that when the tournaments are going on because they give you hefty amounts when you beat the round. But even that’s a gamble because you don’t know if you are gonna land on that when you spin the wheel. Which is also... rigged. I’ve never in the time I’ve played landed on a card pack. Not even the common one you get every couple of hours or so for free. Then in the tournaments the problem I’ve seen other people review about still happens... the turns glitch and then they destroy any chance of beating them. More annoying the dragons in the tournaments most of the time are 1 or 2 levels lower then the dragons I’m using and they still beat mine. The game is fun and I do like it but it’s definitely run by some greedy people. There is definitely more complaints but I’ve already typed a book.

Needs to Fix Some Issues

It’s not that bad of a game, and I really enjoyed playing it. At first they had a very good free content to costly content ratio, but now it’s overwhelming filled with money grabs shoved down your throat. If you aren’t lucky in what dragons the game gives you for free, it’s a nightmare trying to advance in the game. I was lucky enough to receive the highest resource collecting dragon so I have been able to advance at a steady pace. But my real complaint is how ridiculously unfair the battle system is. How are you supposed to win when the game never gives you a turn? When it shows you the turns on the right side, it’ll glitch and change the pattern giving extra hits for the other team and ruining your battle strategy. I’ve had the same dragon dodge my attack four times in a row. Many times my turn is skipped, and I’m attacked four or more times in a row before I get a chance. So my dragons are dead or mostly dead before I even get to make a move in response. If they were higher leveled dragons, I’d still be annoyed but it would at least be somewhat understandable. But these dragons are two to three levels lower than mine and these glitches keep causing me to lose because I am never allowed to attack. Which, you know, seems like you’re trying to make people buy extra perks to win an unfair game. In a nutshell, stop trying to force people to buy things. It’s painfully obvious and makes the game unplayable.
