Bugfixing
Hard to believe it's been over a year since my last review asking for an update. Well I'm glad that not only did I get the feature I asked for (which I, to my great embarrassment, continue to use), but there was also a new country added! I do hope it doesn't take another year for the next update to come out (America? Britain?), but regardless, I am having a blast with this. Thank you!
This is NOT a game where you blow up other tanks. There is ABSOLUTELY no "Gameplay" This is a PUZZLE game. A game where you make combinations of parts of tanks to get more combinations and try to make something from those parts. NO SHOOTING, NO DRIVING. That said, this is a fun puzzle game where it provides historical background to the tanks you are making. For now, there is only Russians, but pray that there will me more counties coming soon. In total, the game is pretty decent.
I realize that's a strong statement, but hear me out. Loved this game series since day 1 almost. Immediately fell in love with the way each element is made through sensible combos, and there are multiple ways to get them. Doodle Devil was the same, but instead the focus is evil. Doodle Kingdoms, kinda makes sense (I have issues with it), but other mechanics make up for logic flaws, making elements as easy to unlock as past Doodle games. Doodle Tanks has no such mechanics. Every element can be made with one combo recipe only, no work-arounds. To know/figure combos, you need like a PhD in tank history, or to be a complete tank-history nerd (it's that hard). All together, this game is impossible to beat WITHOUT BUYING HINTS. I get what JoyBits tried to do, integrating history into a Doodle game format, but it doesn't work here. Wikis barely help, and the combos barely make sense, but worst is the game just expects you to know this stuff and doesn't explain why the combos work. Doodle games are casual, made challenging because it makes you think about why, say, Energy+Swamp=Life. That worked in the past, but needs a new tact--a new GAME--here. DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON THIS GAME. NOT WORTH THE TIME/MONEY.
This game consists of having two columns of tank parts, you tap or drag from one column into the other, and occasionally you will discover a new part. Sometimes there is a shred if logic, for instance dragging an armor part onto a gun part might result in a new turret. Often it just seems random, so you wind up aimlessly dragging everything in one column onto everything in the other, in the hope that you discover a new part. Gets more tedious the more parts you have. Constant reminders to use up your 'tips' slow you down, and of course run out so you can buy more. Its a shame because there is a promise of learning some actual history.
I really like the game because it teaches you about WWII and makes you think. One suggestion I have is to get one of every power up a day for a total of 5 in storage. So 1 reaction, group, and hint and hint a day for a total of 5 in storage. Good game and I hope to see this in the game.
Like all good games, the subsequent versions get progressively worse. Not just because the matches make no logical sense, but because of the in game purchase prices. Because the matches make zero logical sense, the frames are a huge help. HUGE. otherwise you are aimlessly dragging boxes together like an idiot. Why is the price almost three dollars for just TWELVE hours for the frames??? It should be indefinite. I already paid for the game ... I'm willing to pay for frames, but not three dollars for twelve hours. A little ridiculous. Doodle god was the only good one where the matches actually made some sense and it wasn't a complete rip off...
A fun addition for those doodle fans into the era. Not very intuitive on some combinations (figuring to engine components to make "heavy tank hull" took me awhile). One thing that miffed me was the description details "multiple vehicles that fought in Africa and Europe" and this implies a variety of countries are in game. Currently it's just the USSR and they *technically get away with the Africa comment with UK lend lease vehicles. Very disappointing. Hope some actual content comes in now that we're about 6 months past release.
Good and similar to the others, but you need an option to give us free reactions/ hints through ads or just over time. Especially since we paid for the game. Also needs more content. I have finished everything with nothing to do now.
