-Added missing end-game mechanic where warriors are doubled when visiting the home citadel after collecting all required keys.
Dark Tower Classic is a brilliant digital revival of a board game icon. For those who remember the original, the nostalgia hit is immediate, but even for newcomers, the mechanics hold up surprisingly well in a modern context. The turn-based loop of gathering warriors and hunting for the three keys creates a palpable sense of urgency as you race against other players or the clock.
The UI is exceptionally clean, which is vital for a game that relies on managing resources like food and gold. The 'Pass and Play' multiplayer is the highlight here; it’s one of the few games that genuinely captures the feeling of sitting around a table with friends. While the brigand battles are straightforward, the strategic layer of navigating labyrinths and surviving the plague keeps every turn meaningful. It’s a polished, hand-crafted experience that honors its source material while being perfectly suited for iPad play.
Local multiplayer (1-4 players)
Automatic game saves
Faithful retro UI design
Hand-crafted music and SFX
Focus on visiting the Citadels early to build your army. Ensure you have enough gold for keys, but don't ignore food supplies—running out of food in the desert can end your run instantly.
Gameplay is divided into turns where players move across territories, interact with locations, and engage in randomized combat. The end-game requires a specific sequence of actions at the Tower to win.
Currently, the game supports local 'Pass and Play' multiplayer, making it ideal for groups in the same room.
Not ever having played the board game I found this to be a great way for my wife and I to pass time at the airport. I wish the battles with the brigands were a bit more interactive but I had a great time.
This game was ok at first, but now when I try to play I can’t complete a game because it refuses to ever give me the gold key in the third kingdom. It’s maddening. I finally deleted the game since it just kept me going on circles. I can no longer recommend it. It worked the first couple times I played, but now it flat out won’t release the gold key. Oh well, glad it wasn’t too expensive.
Actually having a great time with this game! Has a classic vibe to it and you never know what’s gonna happen next. Love it!
It is exactly what I look for in a game. Fair price, replay ability, and fun. An amazing indie game.
