Our Expert Score

94/100

Seeing a massive, legendary AAA masterpiece like Cyberpunk 2077 running natively on a mobile device is nothing short of a technical miracle. CD PROJEKT RED has optimized this Ultimate Edition to squeeze an unbelievable amount of power out of premium mobile systems, delivering a version of Night City that looks shockingly close to its console counterparts.

The gameplay depth here is unmatched by anything else on the app store. Walking through the crowded, neon-lit alleys, driving high-speed hypercars through the Badlands, and engaging in intense, high-stakes gunplay feels incredibly immersive. Having both the massive base story and the masterfully written Phantom Liberty spy expansion in one package offers over a hundred hours of top-tier roleplaying content.

You will absolutely want to pair a proper console controller to your device for the optimal layout, and it will push your battery life to its absolute limit. But as a showcase of what modern premium mobile gaming is capable of achieving, this title stands as an unrivaled, historic triumph.

This title is about five years old, the Phantom Liberty DLC is a few years newer. I’ve played this 6-7 times on XBox Cloud Gaming, so I obviously love it and know it through and through. I was surprised to see it ported over to MacOS. After being a bit hesitant but then buying it for Mac, I’m so glad I did! The graphics look great and runs mostly smooth running off my Mac Studio M2 Max, 64GB. There were a few intermittent crashes and glitches, but nothing too annoying. Oh and trying to use the cross progression and continuation from the CD Projekt Red account did not work. Oh well, Game Center account it is. Since this is the 2025 Game of the Year and has clearly proven itself, it would be amazing to have the sequel available in the App Store on day one! Wishful thinking…

Great Start! Still Broken

I played the original version on PS4 Pro and loved it. I couldn’t download it fast enough to finally get to play the DLC. I am playing on an M1 Ultra with 128GB of memory. Most settings are on High - doesn’t struggle at all. I upped the resolution a bit even with no performance hit. The reason for the 4 star review is because the app can not close without freezing. Also, if you start the game w/o a headset on and add one (for instance I put my AirPods in) the game does not recognize them and continues to play out of the external speaker. Also, if you swipe out of the app to a new desktop the app will regularly freeze when you return to it. I have had one actual crash during game place and have put in at least 20 hours of game play. Looking forward to an update to sort out the last of the admittedly low impact issues. UPDATE: I have revised my rating down to 3 stars. When I first played CP77 on PS4 the photo mode was something I used a fair amount. This time through I was not using it until I accidentally triggered it. Full crash - app goes unresponsive and then crashes out. This wouldn’t be horrible but now I am running through Kerry’s missions and there is a point where you need to take a picture and photo mode opens - full stop the app goes unresponsive when you take the pic. So now you have to either not do Kerry’s story arc (and doing it is worth it for the story for sure) or keep playing other missions and side gigs until they patch. Definite downer. UPDATE: After the most recent update the issues above still exist. Still stuck waiting for them to fix the Selfie issue so I can finish Kerry’s Story Arc

Needs more presets in graphics for iMacs

This game has come so far and I continue to support it wherever it comes out. Even when the PS4 digital store took it down, I bought the game on disc and played it on the PS5. While we love our 2024 iMac M4 with 24GB of ram, it seems to struggle with playing CP2077 on most settings. My hope is that as iMacs get better I’ll see this game flourish as it did from PS4/Xbox One to Series X and PS5/PS5 pro. Please release a PS5 pro enhanced version & please play test and update the Mac OS version to have more simple to adjust presets other than FOR THIS MAC. This Mac purchase was more of putting My money where My mouth is, instead of hoping this takes off well on Mac. So far our love has been a two way street otherwise. Don’t ignore Apple for console, but please bring more ray traced features to PS5 pro. Reward those of us that have stuck with you since the beginning. Mad respect for all you do CD Projekt Red and what you have overcome. Keep plugging away and stay strong. Be looking to update this as it gets notice and thanks again. - A loyal fan *************UPDATE****************************After some time I’ve been able to find a sweet spot for playing the gaming on this SOC. 1440p on all high settings without ray tracing on and metal on balanced with VSync at 60. Not bad.

Great to see more AAA on Mac

Beat this game on Xbox when it first game out. Just rebought on Mac to support CDPRs efforts to bring their AAA titles to Mac. It has been a while since I last played so it is great to have access to all the expansion content and see all the quality of life improvements they have made over the years. I had to purchase Phantom Liberty on Xbox to get cross saves so I didn’t have to start over but worth it in the end. Now I can play on Xbox and pick up on the go with my MBP. PS I am playing on M1 Max 32 GB and at 1080 with moderate setting the game runs well and looks great with HDR on MBP screen. Could push the graphics higher at still get good frame rates but I get terrible input lag so that does need to be address. Hopefully performance will get even better with the update to Metal 4 in Tahoe.

Astonishingly good.

I’ve never considered myself much of a gamer, but I’ve been a fan of the cyberpunk genre since first reading William Gibson’s “Neuromancer” in high school in the ‘80s. This game really captures that world in all its gritty realism: the graphics are some of the best I’ve seen in any game, and the the play really feels like you’re part of an evolving story. The controls with keyboard and a trackball were pretty easy for an old duff like me to figure out and get used to, and the game plays incredibly well on my M2 Ultra Mac Studio. I never really imagined a game of this tier would be available for the Mac platform or play so well, but here it is. Kudos to Apple for the hardware to make this possible, and huge thumbs up to the developers for bringing this amazing game to the platform.

Bug, bug, and bugs.

First major bug happened after around 3 hours of play (not able to play after so), everything else is surprisingly perfect.

Game is Beautiful - BUT . . .

Just unlocked Phantom Liberty, still running from the baddies with my escort. Game now locks up during restarts. Can’t get past the loading second loading screen! Infuriating. Looking at the “Verify integrity of game files” there doesn’t seem to be an App Store solution to verify or repair the integrity of the game files. I’ve tried several wipe and re-installs, and while that allows for a session of play, the issue comes right back the next session., Look, I get it, it can be tough to fix things like this, but this is absolutely unacceptable in a AAA game that has taken this long to port over to Mac. Heck, you’d think Apple itself would be embarrassed by this.

Love it!

Playing on a M4 Pro Mac mini (24GB RAM). Game looks great, plays great. Love the “For My Mac” autoconfig so I could start playing right away without fiddling with settings, although I did change a couple keybinds
