Cribbage HD is arguably the best implementation of the classic card game on the App Store. For newcomers, the 'Explain' button is a stroke of genius—it breaks down the scoring of a hand so you can actually learn the strategy rather than just guessing. For veterans, the 'Muggins' rule being included adds that essential competitive edge that makes real-life Cribbage so tense.

The inclusion of voice chat in online matches is a game-changer, making the digital experience feel much more social and like a real night around the kitchen table. Lots of choice//Very entertaining

Though I've not played on-line, I find this a good way to pass the time for someone who learned the game years ago. With the flexibility of settings (difficulty, count hands, play muggins, etc.) this is a game for novice & advanced alike. I'm still trying to get my wife to use it to learn the game. An update: my wife is still not interested but I still enjoy the app to pass the time. I do occasionally check the "hint." It doesn't seem to recognize the value of a flush-- 4 points nor the value of keeping touching cards in the hand when discarding to the crib. An update: Keep up the good work. Really like this game to pass the time and keep the brain cells lubed!

Awesome game, but one fatal flaw

Great game and after playing it thousands of times over the last few years I can attest that the cards dealt are really, truly random. Sometimes the game will get a suspiciously awesome hand but then again sometimes so will the player. Everything seems to fit within statistical bounds. The difference between easy and hard games is not what is dealt - it’s that the game will make stupid plays sometimes on the easier levels such as not playing the third card of a straight or leading with a 5. This would be worth a five star rating, but: If you ever have to reset your device or replace it with a new one then you will lose your history, including your Level. I had worked my way up to Level 60-something over the last few years with an awesome set of stats. Then I had to reset my iPad and am now at Level 1 with nothing but 0’s on my stat board. Looked on the help tab and got this: “Unfortunately, your player level is currently only stored locally on your device. It will not sync to another device, and we cannot currently transfer your level to a new device or restore it if you reset your device or otherwise lose your game data. We apologize for this inconvenience”. Really?! What’s the point of having me logged in to Game Center? That’s a one star deal right there. Maybe zero. I think I’m being generous averaging this into a 3 star review...

Love this game-but….

I love cribbage. I play it on a daily basis with friends and family. I even, occasionally, take part in tournaments and can hold my own against others who play at my level—I know it’s bragging, but I’m very good at the game. Therefore, I love this app—up to a point. I love being able to choose my own pegs, board, etc. It is great practice for when I play other people. I play this app at the expert level and I have not found the game to take advantage of it being an AI and myself a human. I win much more than I lose. All this being said, I don’t care for some of the daily goals to win certain rewards (I have no idea what the rewards are except for points for achieving higher levels). I am at level 60, and only 700 points from level 61. So my complaint? Well, today the goal is 3 medium games for 400 points. I play at expert level. I am not going to play at a lower level as it is profoundly boring. Perhaps the game could create challenges that is designed for the level one is playing at, i.e. “Win 3 expert games.” Another problem? The goals of 4-of-a-kind, etc. I’m only successful at getting a 4-of-a-kind every 100 or so games, and maybe a 3-of-a kind every 10 games or so, because I don’t play with that in mind, but rather I play to win. To get 2 4-of-a kind (which is often the goal) or maybe 10 3-of-a kind, would require I play all day—which I suppose is the game creators’ idea—to get a lousy 400 or 600 points. Other goals are similar. So, while I thoroughly enjoy the game, the games/rewards are often useless. But, if you enjoy cribbage as much as I do, this app is the best I’ve found and I do recommend it.

Like many of the trivial technology / wildcard games one of the main selling points has been the ability for multiple people to play when not connected to data service. While their peer to peer function has been plagued by bugs, when it worked it made this developer game outshine the rest. As of the latest notifications from the developer it seems that all offline multiplayer play is being removed! Indeed it seems that only negative development is occurring on these once outstanding products. Early testing to see how the online play will work has been a worse failure then in prior issue with peer to peer. My wife and I were never able to get it to work. When they finally kill of peer to peer, we will be looking for another vendor or just returning to actual cards.

The app was great before the most recent OS update for iPhone and iPad. Now shifting between multiple turned base games is re-invented and takes too many clicks. Also the turn notification (audio) is terrible and if you turn it off you don't ever know it's your turn unless you stare at the screen waiting. Game was great, now it's ok. I not sure why change is always necessary when things work fine already. Additionally For the past several months when I create or accept a turn based game with my friend we cut the same card when seeing who deals first. Not the same number but the exact same card. Like two 2 of hearts. I reported this a few months ago and nothing. The entire reason I have this app is to continue playing cribbage with a friend that I used to live near. Now it’s become unreliable and erroneous. When will you fix this issue?

Very easy to use and worth the money to play with people. I’d love to see more options for personalization to make it more entertaining/maybe achievements where you unlock certain cribbage boards or decks of cards. Also wish there was a feature to either pause the game if you need to send a text message or if there was an option to make it like words with friends where one player sends a move and then the next player sends a move so the game doesn’t have to be played out immediately. All around great app as it is. There’s just lots of room for bonus features that could make it even more fun than it already is!

Thank you for a well thought out game that doesn’t seem to stack the deck. The last cribbage app I used seemed ridiculously stacked. I like that you can play against the iPod. I also like that you can get hints. I’m not a bad player, but there are hands that I don’t know the best play by odds, so it’s nice to learn what to do with them. The only thing I wish was different, is when playing cards from your hand, the last card disappears too quickly from view. Not a big deal, just giving feedback of my preference.

This is a fabulous iOS version of the class Cribbage game! The features, functionality, graphics, and animations are great! Great job at taking a classic card/Cribbage board game and making it accessible on your mobile device! Playing by yourself with the computer as your opponent, or against another person works wonderfully! This game is already top notch, and if they added a few improvements and fixes, it would be 5 Star plus!! Here are the fixes and improvement suggestions: Fixes needed: 1. Multiplayer seems buggy, can take a long time to connect, disconnects, and at times will say you ended or forfeited the game when you didn’t. It just needs some work. Especially if you try to play with a random person, it will connect you with someone, and start the game but sit there until it times out and you have to go through that multiple times. Also, if should connect you regardless if someone picked automatic, manual, or muggins, and have it show that whoever is the “host” chose that type of game (or just add a fourth option that says play any type of counting method). 2. It always “feels” that Single Player Expert Mode has an advantage of knowing the cards? I don’t know if that’s true, or if it assigns cards to the computer, but it feels like that is how it wins frequently vs good AI? Improvements and Suggestions: 1. Come out with a three-player mode, both with single player but especially in multiplayer with friends and with random people, so you can play the three player cribbage. We play it all the time as a family, and it would be great to have it here for practice, learning, and strategy both in single mode and playing against two opponents, either random or friends you invite. 2. Add a paid upgrade option for a coach, strategy, tips, to help you become a better Cribbage player and learn to become a true master, expert, or even champion player.
