This version brings a lot of bugfixes, QoL changes, and dungeoneer balance changes.
Creatures of Aether is a masterclass in 'easy to learn, impossible to master' card game design. Set in the world of the popular indie fighter Rivals of Aether, it takes the core mechanic of Triple Triad—placing cards on a grid to flip adjacent ones—and adds a layer of deep elemental strategy and hero abilities that elevate it to a professional competitive level.
The game's 3x3 grid makes every single placement feel like a high-stakes decision. Do you go for an aggressive flip now, or play a card with high defensive values to anchor your board? The elemental synergies (Fire, Water, Air, and Earth) add a layer of complexity that keeps the meta-game fresh. The pixel art is exceptional, staying true to the franchise's roots while adding smooth animations for the legendary hero cards. Whether you're a fan of the original fighting game or a newcomer looking for a cerebral card battler, Creatures of Aether is one of the most rewarding tactical experiences on mobile.
PVP Ranked Ladder
Single-player dungeons and bosses
Dozens of unique creature cards
Direct tie-ins to Rivals of Aether lore
Place a Fire creature next to another Fire creature to gain a power boost. Understanding these elemental links is crucial for defending your cards from being flipped.
The board is small, so every placement matters. Try to occupy the corners first with cards that have high numbers on their exposed sides to limit your opponent's options.
Not at all. While the characters are familiar, the gameplay is entirely its own card-based experience.
If you need a game to tickle that strategic itch, Creatures of Aether is an incredible choice. Games are relatively short, but each move carries massive amounts of potential weight. My only complaint is that Fleet’s tutorial in the challenge mode is currently unbeatable, as the ‘Pips’ she has left after playing all other creatures are only enough to tie the Cobbleclaw’s left number. (I assume this is an oversight that occured due to her numbers’ nerf.) Making it difficult to get a copy of the Rival. Still, even without fleet, the selection of Rivals, cards, and general strategies in this game makes it worth, at the very least, a try.
I love the core gameplay mechanics, but I think this game has a bit too many paywalls. I bought the season past for Guadua, and she’s a really fun and powerful rival, but it seems the only way to get her is with the pass. Also I think it’s a bit silly to put a limit on how much AP you can earn per day. Clash royale, which as a very similar monetary system doesn’t limit that kind of stuff, but keeps the pass rewards as well, still providing incentive to purchase the pass. I do think it’s easy enough to get new cards without paying so that’s good, but it’s hard to level them up because they cost thousands of coins to level up and it’s really hard to get coins. I know the game needs to make money but I don’t think you need to restrict that much stuff from the players who don’t buy the season pass. Also this isn’t the games fault but I spend a bit too much time waiting for matches and often face bots. Apart from the micro transactions, it’s a great game. It’s super satisfying to use a rival ability and completely change the match.
I like the game but I absolutely hate it at the same time. Creatures of Aether is very much like Tetra Master, a Final Fantasy mini-game but with a twist. Certain cards in Creatures of Aether have powers and the board does have elemental tiles that can give or remove stats. Although I did get a bit of nostalgia because it’s similar to Tetra Master, Creatures of Aether is not nearly as fun nor satisfying. Cards can level up if you have enough duplicates of the same card which means the game is pay to win. There is a total deck cost limitation meaning each card has a certain cost and if your deck is above the cost you cannot play the deck, I’d love to play all my strongest cards in a single deck but that would never happen. The elemental tiles are sometimes a pain to deal with because you can be forced to dump a card in an elemental tile that isn’t favorable for your cards element which means your card loses overall stats, there is a specific card that removes elemental tiles but if you didn’t pick that card as your starter, too bad. If you plan on trying the game, I do believe it can be fun but it is very much is pay to win.
I love everything about this game from the concept to the gameplay but when it comes down to it, it still has a lot of bugs. When in game it takes a good chunk of time to find an opponent which is fine but when you get into a match with an opponent you glitch out 15% of the time, also there is a glitch in the reward ladder that doesn’t allow you to collect your rewards at a certain point but you can collect them before and after that point. Another thing it is way too time consuming to get more cards and resources, without a getting chests after every win the battle pass type system they have is fine but there needs to be something else besides micro transactions to keep people going. I’d absolutely love to see this game blow up but it’s simply not going to happen with all of these bugs and inconsistencies in play.
Been following this since the Rivals Direct. Happy to say it surpassed my expectations for enjoyment. It’s a nice breath of fresh air for PvP strategy games and the PvE feels better than I had hoped. So far the only thing that doesn’t feel as great is the economy. It may be due to the fact it’s new but there is a large disparity between the amount of gold earned from PvP compared and the amount needed to level up cards. I know mobile games need to reward players who spend money but when the most consistent F2P source of farming gives so little it doesn’t feel rewarding when I big brain someone 4 matches in a row and can’t even level up a rare card. I just wanna feel progress when I make big brain plays. Overall still love the game and am gonna keep playing!
I really like the concept of this game. It was fun at first until I reached rank 4 or so and then started losing EVERY SINGLE match. Whether against IRL people or AI, regular or draft, it just doesnt matter. I can’t seem to win even a single game no matter how my deck is structured nor how I play out an individual game. I dont understand what happened that has led to a HARD stop in the game for me. And the thing that makes it worse is there is very little you can do about it as F2P as a loss awards nothing but a couple coins which you need 100s and 1000s of to do pretty much anything in this game. I was really enjoying this game and then all of a sudden something happened and it went from fun to nothing but losing 100% of the time and a feeling of there being nothing I can do about it :/
This is a really refreshing game. Unlike games like puzzles and dragons, this game really is a incredible game on its own even without being able to level up characters! The main “game” itself is super intricate and has tons of room for strategy. Even with the same deck, two players would likely play completely differently! There are so many different strategies it’s crazy! Also I love that this game does’t push the micro transactions too hard either! (One bug is tho that it doesnt show you how any purple orbs you get from mircotransactions. It onky shows the $ cost lol) Overall great game and I can’t wait to pioneer new strats!
In short this game is absolutely amazing it’s designed well it’s very well balanced the pvp matches are amazing and you don’t feel like ya got scammed when someone uses a money bought character! but then comes the problem there aren’t a lot of active players so about 98% of your matches will be against bots and I don’t mean player made bots I mean in game ai so it’s less annoying and more just that it’s way to easy…I want a challenge Dang it! LET ME FIGHT ANOTHER PLAYER PLEASE THIS GAME IS AMAZING BUT ITS DEAD!…well if you do download this game your first rival needs to be absa shes easily the most powerful of the four starters you can pick!
