Seeing Control running on an iPhone is nothing short of a technical miracle. This isn't a watered-down mobile port; it's the full, atmospheric, physics-heavy experience that made it a Game of the Year contender on consoles. The brutalist architecture of the Oldest House looks stunning on the OLED screens, and the particle effects when you launch a desk across a room are as satisfying as ever.
The gameplay loop of 'Control' is brilliant. The way Jesse’s powers evolve makes you feel increasingly like a god, yet the eerie atmosphere and challenging bosses keep you on your toes. The storytelling is 'Remedy' at its best—weird, unsettling, and completely engrossing. While touch controls are functional, I highly recommend playing with a Backbone or Xbox controller to truly appreciate the precision needed for the later combat encounters. It’s a showcase title for what modern mobile gaming can achieve.
Supernatural telekinetic abilities and transforming weapons
Deep world-building and lore from Remedy Entertainment
Includes 'The Foundation' and 'AWE' expansion packs
Full controller support and A17 Pro/M-series chip optimization
Your most powerful tool is 'Launch.' Don't wait for environmental objects; Jesse can rip pieces of the floor and walls to throw at enemies. Always keep moving and use your dash to avoid Hiss projectiles while your energy recharges.
The environment is non-linear. Use your clearance cards to backtrack to previously locked rooms for hidden upgrades and collectibles. Pay close attention to the shifting architecture; some paths only open after specific story triggers.
Yes, it requires an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 series, or newer, equipped with the A17 Pro chip or later.
Loved the game and it works pretty well on my M2 MacBook Air (16GB-1TB), but once you've completed the game you cant play again as if it's a new run. The problem is Gamecenter keeps all your stats and does not retset them on a 2nd playthrough. So when you start a new game all the loot boxes are already open and characters you're supposed to meet like Marshall or the Janitor are not located where they're suppose to be or do not respond like the did in the intial playthrough. It's great as a play once game but the replay ability is bad on Mac. I wish Remedy and Mac could sort this out as replay ability would have been brilliant. So DO NOT click "New Game" unless you've throughly played the game and done every single side quest or level.
I’m playing on M4 Pro 20 core GPU chip which runs the game perfectly fine at 984p upscaled to 1900p by MetalFX without ray-tracing, however with ray-tracing on the game has massive stutters almost every 10 seconds and especially during combat the game freezes for almost a whole second making the whole sequence unplayable, turning on V-sync to lock the frame rate at 30 doesn’t help since the game still has massive frame time spikes and dips feels like I’m playing an online game with phone data internet or something. The “HDR” is very misleading, it’s basically just remapped SDR, the game barely reach 500nits in the highlights, all it does moving the black level down so the game looks more “contrasty” but by doing that it increase banding and gradation issues in shadow details. The sensitivity curve on controller is just as bad as the PC and consoles versions, granular aiming near the dead zone is impossible since it’s really twitchy and yet the acceleration curve is really sluggish and increasing “sensitivity” settings only adjust time-based acceleration speed, not the core speed of the camera. The game is relatively fast-paced and required responsive control and yet the game doesn’t have it which should one of the fundamental things to consider for a game. The game does have aim assist functions but that should be considered as accessibility feature, not an excuse for a poorly designed controller sensitivity curve
I can't find a true support contact, so... Suddenly most of the light went dark after dying during the "Launch to complete the Astral Plane challenge." I thought it was part of the game to make it more challenging. The lighting returned to normal when I got to the mailroom suddenly even though the message "Launch to complete the Astral Plane challenge" persisted making me think I should still be in the challenge. I claimed a control spot and then found a room full of enemies I could launch things at. I died quickly, as happens. When I respawned at the control point the lighting was again mostly gone. I can barely navigate the environment. Going back to the fight room it's impossible to fight now because I can't see more than a few outlines in the environment. I thought it might clear up by dying again, but the light remains mostly off. Of course, I quit and restated a few times, even waiting a couple hours to come back, but the lack of lighting persists. I even tried fiddling with many display settings, including default of course, but nothing works. What do I do to keep playing? I know the game is not supposed to look like this or you’d see it in videos etc. I have an iMac M4, 10 core, 32GB RAM.
This is a fantastic game and I finished it with the PS5 version. I was excited to get the Mac version and try it on my new M5 MacBook Air but there is a bug and it seems to have been unfixed for months. In one part you have to complete an Astral Plane challenge and you are not able to. If you fail to complete it the first time, it just drops you back into the normal reality and there is no way to enter the Astral Plane again to complete it. I am guessing they do not have any programmers available to fix this bug in the Mac version and so it is unpatched for months. Very annoying. Now I have to just set it aside and wait a year to see if they eventually fix it. I guess I am glad I finished the PS5 version, and also I got a huge discount buying this game on Mac otherwise I would definitely have complained and gotten a refund.
This game is a really good port, I have an M4 MacBook Pro and at mostly Medium settings I can get about 60FPS at an internal resolution of 720P. However I feel like there is more room for optimization. Don’t get me wrong its perfect performance compared to comparable windows laptops but games like Death Stranding are games that show just how much you can get out of a game when you really optimize for the M series chips. Still if you are interested in the game and your system can run it I say pick it up, if you are on the M2 or earlier though I would expect 30FPS.
I have played this game on both ps5 and windows and loved it so when I saw there was a Mac port curiosity got the better of me and I had to test it out. I tried it on a m1 MacBook Air 8gb so pretty much the lowest end hardware the game supports and I’m very impressed. I left it on default settings which is around medium at 540p native with metalFX and it pretty much always stays locked at 30 fps and looks pretty decent as well. You are getting a way better experience on a thin and light laptop from 5 years ago than on a ps4. Thats pretty impressive. If you are on a newer Mac then this is going to run super well. Great game and a great port. You should definitely check it out.
It’s not perfect on the performance, but all of the quality settings are customizable. It runs really nicely on my M3 Pro MacBook Pro after adjusting some of the settings. Something to add, the stability of this game is the best I’ve seen so far. You can leave it running in the background for days and it will use minimal batter and doesn’t ever crash, which is a first for Mac games. The controller support works perfectly and is seamless. No need to have to map controls. Overall, a super solid addition to the Mac game lineup. Download and enjoy. FYI, this is the special edition of the game where you get a few extras, which is nice.
I’ve been waiting for this port for a long time and it was well worth the wait. The port is polished, stable, and runs fantastic on M4 Max. The game itself has a compelling story with great and unique world building and setting. The gameplay is memorable, can be challenging but there’s no ‘grind’ involved. Overall the narrative is self contained, I would estimate around 25 hours to complete the main story and side quests, and another 15-20 hours for the DLC. There is a spinoff title and sequel in the pipeline and I hope those are available on Mac day one. The visuals were jaw dropping on release and nearly 6 years later it remains one of the most visually impressive games I’ve played. Overall an amazing addition to the catalog of gaming on Mac. My only gripe is that I do own this game on Steam and the Epic Games store but you can only run it natively on Mac by purchasing it on the App Store. But thats not a critique of the game so much as whatever contract was negotiated between Remedy and Apple.
