Our Expert Score

92/100

Choice of Games is an absolute masterpiece for anyone who loves deep storytelling, reading, and role-playing. As a text-only platform, it strips away the flashy visual distractions of typical mobile titles and redirects that energy into unparalleled narrative depth. The library is massive, covering everything from swashbuckling naval battles and political vampire thrillers to slice-of-life high school superhero dramas.

What truly elevates this application is the mechanical depth behind the text. This isn't a surface-level 'choose your own adventure' book; it's a fully functional RPG engine hidden behind prose. Your choices actively shift detailed character stats, change how NPCs view you, and entirely rewrite future chapters. The replay value is off the charts because a single story can end in dozens of wildly different ways depending on whether you play a charismatic diplomat, a reckless brawler, or a calculating mastermind. For narrative lovers, this is a permanent fixture on your device.

Glitch ruins otherwise amazing game

First I’d like to say that this is one of my favorite apps. I love seeing all the options that the writers come up with, and I appreciate it when the stories present me with diverse customization options, and meaningful choices. No game does this better than The Grand Academy for Future Villains. However playing through the sequel I began to notice that some of my choices were not being recognized. I don’t mean that the game didn’t recognize my choices; I mean that I was sometimes presented with text contradictory to what I had chosen. At first it was small—I had purchased a cloak in the game and the character commented on me not getting one (though I still lost in-game money for it). It was a little annoying but I decided to continue anyway. Then only a few pages later in the genre tournament I chose the option that said to play to the horrors strengths. The game then told me that I hadn’t picked a “horror appropriate plan.” I tried restarting it and going back through to see if I’d accidentally hit a different option, but the same thing happened. If the developers read this, please fix the glitch; I really like this story perhaps even more than the first one, but this has ruined it for me. Until then I recommend that other users not buy the second book in The Grand Academy for Future Villains series. P.S. I checked, and I have the most recent version, so as of writing this the glitch has not yet been patched. Edit: Glitch has been patched. Yay! I love this app.

Thank you I love this app

I really like the products this app gives you. You get to read two or three chapters for free for any book that is released to see if your going to like the book and mechanics the authors made; this is immensely helpful in choosing purchases and knowing you are going to enjoy them. There are lots of genres and even author categories (they are pretty good authors) to help you in your search of picking your favorite book/games out of the bunch. There even a free section, while most book will make you watch an ad to read still there’s are a bunch of free books to enjoy. For beginners you should probably start with something to learn the mechanics like choice of dragon I also liked choice of the Vampire at first and both are free to play. Give the ap a try it’s frustration free and full of enjoyment. But befor you make a purchase do make an account just in case something happens. My suggestion would be let us write reviews or give a link so we can support our favorite creators in making us our beloved content through the app for people that don’t have social media. It would be nice to express our excitement and appreciation to some of the incredible authors that use this forum as a medium to give us there creations. Their are probably places out of this app to find them but I don’t know where to look.

Great books needs a UI facelift Edit: UI improved!

Plenty of books (I think all they published on appstore) Books are good and plenty of variety. Some are fee and the ones that are not usually have a 3 or 4 chapters free so you don’t need to take a guess on if your gunna like it and the prices usually range from 2-3 dollars to 5-6 depending on length. And if you already own a book you can restore purchase to use on this app. I.E. I already had sorcery for sap and I just restored purchase and now I can just read it from here. The only UI issue is on the book selection screen itself. It is just a list of the book cover art going down with a search bar. Though it does make is easier to browse then the App Store it is kinda inconvenient when trying to find something new and you gotta scroll past the more recent releases you already seen. My suggestion maybe a category tab (fantasy sci-fi romance) and maybe a way to sort by length, price, popularity ( using AppStore ratings)? Also maybe a way to see all of one authors work and all your purchased books? Would really make the app a lot more smoother to use. EDIT:They improved me issues with the UI adding a library tab with contains recently read books purchased books or books you favorited by clicking the little hearts. I still think something like a categories tab but that might come soon. They are adding new books at a nice pace and they are not dropping in quality. They even had a sale or two worth. Almost all books have a few free chapters and some can just be played with ads so you can at least download it and give it a go. P.S. keep up the good work devs and authors!

Fun, but one very annoying bug

First of all, this is a great app and definitely worth getting. All the games let you play the first couple chapters for free, so you can get a taste of the writing (and in some cases gameplay) before you purchase them. While personal opinions may vary as to what constitutes good writing or a good game, of course, there’s enough diversity here that you’re likely to find at least one game you enjoy. Most of the games have high replay value too, because there are so many approaches you can take. I personally recommend Kreg Segall’s games (he’s great at making even your character’s “failures” enjoyable and rewarding), Heroes of Myth (I haven’t finished it yet but love the premise and writing, and it offers good options for roleplaying), and the Pon Para series (ditto). Recently I also started Vampire: the Masquerade - Night Road (forgive me if I didn’t punctuate that correctly), and it’s proving really fun and well-written so far. However, that being said, I need to address a distressing bug I’ve encountered. It’s only happened a few times but is still annoying enough to be worth the attention, I feel. Sometimes when I try to open games, usually after switching to another one, I’m forced to restart at the beginning. With some games, this isn’t that big of a deal, but in others, where elements of RNG are involved in certain aspects, or where they’re so long that I’ve forgotten some of the choices I made along the way, it can be moderately irritating. Which is a shame, because I really love this game. I hope it gets fixed soon.

Good app but suggestions

I love the variety of stories and that they have free trials. Always loved the books from this company so I am glad to play even more! However, I would like it if there was a save/load feature. I think that after you play through a story once normally, you should unlock a save/load feature to save and load the game at any point. It is annoying to have to restart the whole story every time I choose the wrong thing when I am trying to get achievements. Or instead of a save/load feature, maybe I could choose to go back to the beginning of the chapter or the last chapter or something. Also I wish we could leave/read reviews for individual books. I would like to tell the creator of Social Services of the Doomed that I wished we could have an option, when asked, to say that we like men & nonbinary people. (And women & nonbinary people obviously but that’s not my choice) Right now I would have to say I like only men, only nonbinary people, or any gender. So yeah, being able to review individual books within the app would be a good addition!

Used to be a big fan but now am concerned with the direction they are going.

I have been buying and playing choice of games for many years now and have really enjoyed the multitude of different stories characters and authors authors out there, but i’ve started to become more and more disappointed with this company and the stories they put out. First of all they have been raising there prices across the board lately. When i first started playing many of the games were free and the most expensive stories were no more than about 4$ but now nearly all require payment and are approaching 7 and 8$ for games the same length as years ago. Secondly, i understand that many people are happy that the lion share of new releases cater to all sexual/gender choices, but please can we allow for some more assurance of normalcy for us straight people, especially now that I'm paying more for these games. It can be a but jarring when I'm half way through a story and my character ends up sleeping with a member of the same sex when that was NOT my intention at all. It is also very distracting when some singular character in the game referred to as they/them. It simply leads to grammatical misunderstandings ruin the immersion. I get you want to cater all people but can you at least revise these a bit or add something in the beginning that will filter your preference for the rest of the story. And lastly, we your platform no longer lets us review individual titles. Please implement this, as our money is at stake and we want to make informed purchases!

Love the One App

So, I have played a good bit of Choice and Hosted (their other brand) games. I actually don’t mind the one app because I prefer a centralized location to access all the games I had. I play a lot of RPGs on the console, and I read in my spare time so I love the combination when I need something casual and in between. Plus, many of them are not as kiddie as similar games in the app store. There is also a nice mix of genres. You can preview the game before you buy, and if you are signed up for their mailing list or notifications, you learn when new ones drop. New stories are usually discounted for a week or so. There are also a few free stories mixed in there. I enjoy, through their combined brands, many of the series. I replay a good bit of the stories. There are other on my list to eventually. I have just been wary of a few. Off the top of my head, (some of these might be the Hosted Choices app as well); I like Way Haven Chronicles, Choices of a Mobster, Samurai of Hyuga Series, Hero Rises Series, Blood Money, Versus Series, Tin Star, Choice of Rebel, etc. I recommend the overall app to people who like to read or enjoy RPGs.

Great app, but ads feel redundant
Sun Sep 11 2022 mikoikochestersonjack

I love this game, and I understand the ads bring in needed revenue, but since the last time I played, there seem to be more ads than before. This is because, when I finish a chapter of a story, there is a 2 hour timer to play more. I close the story and wait, and when I come back, I have to play an ad to open the story again. Then, once the story is open, I have to watch ANOTHER ad to open the next chapter. Two in a row feels redundant. If they were just when I opened the story or between chapters I’d understand, although having them when I open a story is annoying if I accidentally click out of a story and have to watch an ad to go back into it. Lastly, one of the ads that played was horrible and disturbing, depicting a cartoon woman cornered in an alleyway and the legs of the man cornering her as he dropped his pants. It then showed the woman pregnant. It’s clear that was one of those cheap games that uses shock value to peddle their puzzle game and doesn’t actually have that content in it (I looked at the reviews for THAT app) but I wish y’all could perhaps screen the kind of ads you show, or perhaps report one, as there was no way to do that.
