Celtreos is a love letter to the classic side-scrolling 'shmup' (shoot 'em up) genre. If you grew up playing Gradius or R-Type, you’ll feel right at home here. It’s got all the hallmarks: the tiny ship navigating through tight corridors, screen-filling bosses, and a dizzying array of power-ups. What makes Celtreos unique for mobile is the sheer amount of customization. You can choose from 10 different ships and actually customize where your gun mounts are located, which changes how you tackle each level.
The game is also surprisingly rich in content, featuring over 12 stages with their own unique soundtracks and enemy patterns. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the levels have vertical space beyond just one screen, giving it a sense of scale often missing in mobile shooters. It can be quite difficult, but the inclusion of 'Quick Game' modes and adjustable difficulty makes it accessible for both veterans and newcomers to the genre.
12+ sprawling stages with massive bosses
10 playable ships and hundreds of weapon combinations
Original 30-song soundtrack (45 minutes of music)
Configurable difficulty, lives, and ship speed
Support for game controllers and 2-player mode
Different ships have different speeds and hit-boxes. If you're a beginner, look for ships with more gun mounts to provide a wider spread of fire. If you're going for a high score on Hard, a smaller hit-box is vital for dodging bullet hell patterns.
Celtreos features both helpful power-ups and 'Power-down orbs.' Be careful not to fly blindly into every glowing item; some can freeze your weapons or slow your ship down temporarily. Learn the icons to avoid a quick death.
Yes, Celtreos supports game controllers and even offers a 2-player mode if a controller is connected.
